  1. Steel Honzo is such a great bike. With the sliding dropouts, easy to get it running singlespeed and the Honzo's look so good. Damn thing gets me into trouble though, geo directs me into the chunkiest line and although steel helps, I realize real quick I am on a hardtail and pray for my rear wheel.
  2. For sure get a hardtail, will make you a better rider by finding the right lines in the chunk and will be ideal at certain trails like Walnut
  3. yeah no way someone is going to put down 9K for a used race bike.
  4. I just came from riding a steel Honzo as my daily driver for a couple years and just got a full sus. Still have the Honzo but it sits unused and I am going to sell it. I think it has to do with the geometry and my riding style or lack thereof. What I don't like about modern hardtails is the super short chainstays, my new full sus has "non contemporary" long chainstays at 450 mm. But I can get around stuff and corner better at slow speeds than the Honzo. I am a big dude so I benefit from a long ass bike. I also take less of a beating on the chunk on a full suss. Hardtails made me a much better rider, but probably would only go back to one as a second bike.
  5. Love that smell too, just smells like a bike shop, used to only use it, now only in the wetter months. Rock and Roll is great stuff as well. Using Muc Off Dry Lube as they gave me a tester when I bought the brake covers and really liking it, seems like a better version of the White Lightning dry waxy stuff.
  6. Nice looking rig! My new bike came with those Michelin Wild Enduros, I am liking them quite a bit. Did that front hook up well at Cat MTN?
  7. Okay thanks for the advice, I know they are mountain bikes and meant to be scratched up but I would like it to be me doing the scratching.
  8. I have heard some people complaining on the fakebook about scratches on their rides from the chairlift at Spider. Anyone here experience this?
  9. Mine was a 2006 but ran it till 2012ish, so looking back on it, I guess I got a lot of life out of it before it needed a full rebuild. Ran it at 160mm most of the time and when I moved back here, never changed the travel, so seemed kind of pointless to have the travel adjust. No Kashima coating back then, but stanchions were intact, guess I didn't ride fast enough.
  10. Wow you must have taken better care of it than I did.
  11. Yeah had a Talas of that era as well, and while it was needed for my 6" 26er to get up up steep stuff, it also shit the bed, lost travel adjust and lockout.
  12. yeah had Talas 36 and so wanted the Vanilla, too bad they don't make those forks anymore.
  13. Yeah before this bike I picked up the newer generation Pike as like y'all said the Fox's of that era were not up to snuff. The Pike has been amazing and easy to service. Nothing wrong with Rockshox, they make great suspension, just Fox stuff looks so good and have heard the Grip2 actually surpasses the Charger 2.
  14. Yeah their stuff is awesome, strayed away a few years on Rockshox but but I am back.
  15. Okay so an update: So Wiggle claimed that the damage done to the fork was caused by improper packing, but that it would cause no issues for future warranty concerns. Somewhat interesting as they were basing this off of some pictures I had sent and admitted to doing a crappy packing job. They first offered to give me a minimal amount of money that would only really cover shipping. I asked for more money or to have them send me a new fork. They would not send me a new fork and said that I could return the bike and get a refund. The bike box they sent was totally destroyed so I was going to have to get a new box, pack it properly and pay for shipping, this didn't seem like a good option. I decided to contact Fox at this point to see what they could do. Looking at the pictures they said it could cause warranty issues as corrosion could work it's way in. They said I should get the lowers replaced. I let Wiggle know that Fox did have warranty concerns with the chipping on the fork. Wiggle then offered a larger amount of money after that, which would cover the costs of shipping and getting the lowers replaced. They also offered to have the bike shipped back to them on their dime and would replace the entire bike. I wasn't really wanting to go through the trouble of sourcing a box and packing it, so I sent the fork to Fox. Fox was awesome! They got the fork in and realized it needed to be replaced. They sent me a brand new fork, no questions asked, free of charge! Turnaround was less than a week. Can't say enough great things about Fox! They have a customer for life!
  16. I ran into the one wheelers at walnut on Sunday, they were very cool and I helped them find an injured rider. It was a pain when their pack started and you had to wait a while but otherwise they were cool. Were only riding the mellower stuff like inner log loops and .6. Ran into motorized unicycles as well, guy was going pretty slow on outer log loops, but otherwise they were cool as well. I also don't know what to think, but has me concerned that all kinds of motorized contraptions are going to be on the trails.
  17. Have the Bongtrager Flash Charger floor pump/extra tank thingy and it has seated everything I have tried. Love scaring the wife with the tubeless seat pop sounds!
  18. Run a 29x2.5 Wide Trail Maxxis on the front and a 29x2.3 on the rear. Always been a fan of a smaller faster rolling tire out back. Biggest game changer has been these rims at about 30mm internal width! Don't care about weight. Have found the Maxxis Minion SS is a great tire around here for the rear, rolls super fast and has more grip than you would think.
  19. I have tried explaining this to the wife, she doesn't understand how cool this is!
  20. I remember bombing down what is now Big View when it was just a dirt path, such a blast! Having lived in River Place I am surprised this didn't happen sooner, kinda lame but it's their area and people were prolly leaving trash and dog piles.
  21. Also have a steel Honzo and love it, it's a 2013 but geo was spot on even back then. Have a 140mm fork and can take on anything around here. No issues with rock strikes and it has a low BB. All around fun bike for here. Just got a lls slack endurobro bike to round out the stable though. I will say being a Clydesdale rider I love this trend of long bikes because I can finally find an XL that fits me right. Now it is funny seeing smaller guys sizing up to L and XL bikes hanging on for dear life. I don't think our trails really call for these crazy slacked out bikes, but they are a blast in the right terrain.
