  1. I was going to respond in the New Yeti thread about where to demo one. "Desert Fest usually has some demos out there. Oh, oops! Never mind." But I'm trying to not be a smart ass, so I didn't. But that did get me thinking about what some of our post ride talk has been lately. Are we going to do anything to substitute for that adventure? I only went the last two years, but it was enough to spoil me on a group mountain biking get away. Ride, drink beer, eat something good. Get up the next day and repeat. Good stuff. I still have my RV space reserved at Maverick. So I suppose that's an option. Anyone been thinking of any thing? It could be just like trail work; it doesn't have to be "sponsored" by some entity for it to get done.
  2. I was going to say something like this. I wouldn't call "bullshit" though because I'm a non-confrontational sort. But I too just can't follow that logic. I have a sling shot and a rifle. Practicing the sling shot does not make me a better rifleman.
  3. Please stop sanitizing the trails. I keed! I keed! I didn't hear anything on the weather about a wind event out there. Amazing. And good work by the way.
  4. We've had this discussion before, but I'll say it again. A dropper makes riding easier. A dropper allows you to do things you can't without it. This same thing can be said about gears, 29" tires, disc brakes, suspension, fat tires, carbon, tubeless tires, and every other bike building innovation that has come along. Of course you can ride without any of these things if you chose to. A guy will say, "I don't need a dropper to ride (fill in the blank where there are 4' drops etc). But that same rider will balk maybe at the 6' drop. If he had a dropper he might attempt that 6' drop.
  5. Getting to Mary Moore Searight; There is a housing development between Slaughter Creek Drive and Bilbrook. Formerly the way to get from Slaughter Creek Drive to Bilbrook was to ride up onto the water retention pond's berm and follow that all the way around until it hit the sidewalk behind the houses. Then the sidewalk between the houses, then sidewalk in front of houses, past the swinging gate thing that is always closed, onto to Bilbrook. There is a better alternate, LESS OBTRUSIVE TO THE HOMEOWNERS, way now. When riding across the field from Slaughter Creek Drive, don't go up onto the berm, stay below it at it's base, out of sight (sort of) of the houses on the other side of the pond. Just as the berm is turning to the left, look to your right. There is an opening in the tree line. That single track through the forest will take you to Bilbrook. All out of sight of the houses.
  6. Getting a dropper was a bigger game changer for me than going from 26" to 29". I will never ride without one from now on.
  7. I specifically said, "not at the poster" so please don't be offended. I have been on for less than five years so I feel like a noob myself. I was thinking of the join dates for some of these other guys, 2003 etc. Sorry Riding Again, I don't know why you were mentioning me in your post.
  8. My thoughts are since the admins there never check in or do anything, they aren't going to take it down. I assume the forum will be there in perpetuity. So if we ever need to reference something we will always be able to go look it up there. There might be 231 pages of Korean to get past, but it will be there. I personally like the, "You might be a trail builder..." thread for example. I might go and find it at some point. But this is much better. Administered by a fellow MBer, and specifically for Austin folks. I laughed thinking about (not at) the one poster there that was all nostalgic for Mojo. He has been a member for all of 13 months now. If some of you long time Mojo-ers can see the benefits of this move, then why can't everyone. It's not like we are going to hurt the feelings of our good friends that run it, right?
  9. I'm on a forum that has multiple "like" buttons. Like, Love, Agree, Wow!, Funny, and Informative The little bar below the person's post will list it that way, "2 likes, 4 agrees, 1 funny" etc. It is helpful because it more accurately reflexes how you feel about a post. I frequently don't want to just "Like" something here, because I don't "like" what the post is telling us, that a certain area is being shut down by the BCP for example, but I want to acknowledge the poster for posting that information. Maybe we could have a "That's dumb" button in addition!
  10. Did you ever see this Strava ride? He hit all the areas. Not much road, not much repeating. He left a little trail on the table in each area, but it was a dang good ride. https://www.strava.com/activities/1677023345
  11. I can't find a "Preview Post" button. That is always helpful to me when I'm posting a picture or a link to see if it works. Never mind, I found it. It's on the tool bar next to "size."
  12. Just a little. When you exited Dick Nichols, going under Mopac, that concrete (is it finished?) is Violet Crown. But that was only for about 100 yards. Then as you approached Convict Hill, as soon as you got on concrete, that was Violet Crown too until you got to Convict Hill.
  13. TxDot requires any trail under/along their right of way to be concrete. So that bit you rode is the Violet Crown Trail.
  14. Very ambitious. You are giving up single track to ride road a couple of times. Like going behind ATX Bikes and up Beckett instead of going under Mopac, past Backspin Bar, and down Bambi. How did you do this map? What's the difference between the blue and red lines? We have been having a discussion about how to make Strava routes that would be great tools for showing people what the Crank and Drank's route would be each week.
  15. Not legally. But you know you don't have to ride on 1826 right? There is single track that runs along 1826 that keeps you away from traffic. Single track that runs from Slaughter Lane all the way to the intersection with 45.
  16. A place to discuss it all. All 80 miles of it.
