  1. I'm going back out for some this afternoon. Will probably hit Snail, Dave's Ditch, Rim, and Double Down.
  2. Look's like we should be good for tomorrow morning. Who's in? Are we sticking with 7:30AM at 183A? EDIT: Sorry just recalling a meeting commitment. Hopefully others will still be riding. Conditions should be great!
  3. If that's the approach that's used to promote Team Trail Party, then frankly I don't want to have anything to do with them. Hopefully that's not representative of the enduro community at-large. Maybe they can organize an event dedicated to Bartman and hurl insults at all of the entrants who fall short of baller status. Really sad.
  4. Looked like somebody built up some nice berms on the path leading to the 2 big drops on the right heading down. I hadn't been down that side in a while though; so maybe they've been there. On the other path on the left there is a jump over what used to be a little rocky section just before the descent. I just rolled it since I had never seen it before. Suppose you could send it all the way to the downslope but that would be above my pay grade.
  5. The layout of the Home Page along with the navigation features already mentioned really allow for the greater granularity IMO. Being able to see at a glance what the most recent posts are across all of the forums is nice, while also looking at each forum description to see which ones have updates. I simply ignore the forums that are of no interested to me, although I do agree as others have stated that some consolidation might make sense down the road.
  6. Even though I rode yesterday morning, the "cold front" was so enticing that I went out for a quick couple of laps around Snail right before dark last night. Big thanks to whoever put the additions in there! Will be interesting to see what we find on Double Down after this most recent downtime. If 1/4 Notch is any indication, I suspect there will be some rogue rock placements. Seems the same people who like to ride wet trails are the ones who like to place rocks in front of the trickier ledges.
  7. Mountain biking is an inherently dangerous sport - racing or not. That doesn't mean a discerning adult shouldn't seek safety insights from others who may have deeper knowledge regarding a particular venue. Hope everybody is able to stay safe out there this weekend.
  8. Upper Picnic was near perfect this morning. Picnic X was a little damp but still in good riding shape. 1/4 notch was very slick compared to last night. Seems there was a heavy accumulation of dew on the rocks. Probably be better later after some more sunshine, assuming no more rain of course. Based on HB's report from yesterday, I'm assuming that Peddlers probably needs more time. I would guess the same for Double Down. I didn't bother to check Mulligan or Rim.
  9. I saw a rider and a hiker come off of 1/4 Notch and both said it was fine. The biker had no mud on his tires / bike. I checked it out myself and it was rideable but definitely borderline. Whereas normally you'll have 2-3 spots of mud after the trail dries out, there were easily 5-6 muddy spots. I didn't even check Picnic, Mulligan, or Rim, and already knew from HB's post that Peddlers was out. Luckily I ran into a couple of guys that were heading over to Peddlers and I told them it was off limits per the trail steward.
  10. Would appreciate getting a ride report on your experience out there if you go today. It was misting this morning here in Cedar Park and I don't really expect anything to dry out before we get more rain on Wed. If Pedernales or FCC looks good, I may head out there tomorrow.
  11. The last couple of times I went to RPR (last Dec and today), I've pretty much limited my rides to the Race Loop, Reveille Peak Loop, Upper Loop, and Super D. How are others riding out there these days? I remember @Barry stating last year that parts of the inner loop were still accessible, but if I rode any of that lately it was by accident. Also, what about the enduro lines? Is there a way to incorporate those into longer routes, or do you essentially just ride the jeep roads to get around from one to another? I remember somebody posting this image showing the enduro lines but didn't spend time trying to incorporate them into my ride today, partly because a couple of first-timers were with me and I didn't want to spend too much time scouting things out.
  12. It was great today as well! Cool temps and cloudy skies more than made up for the moist air.
  13. I think that I'm going to leave Cedar Park around 9AM or so to go out there if anybody is wanting to catch a ride.
  14. Anybody get out to RPR today? I'd like to get out there tomorrow for sure.
  15. This is a really good question! As others have stated, the streets are probably safer now than they were when we were growing up, but as parents we're much more aware of scary shit that happens to kids. Generally speaking, my kids haven't been allowed to do much without me being highly aware of their surroundings or them being under some level of supervision, at least until they reached High School. Then admittedly I was much less restrictive on the boys than I was on my daughter, which regrettably led to its own issues. There are no easy answers when it comes to parenting, at least from my own experiences.
  16. I have a 32 year old son, a 22 year old son, and a 13 year old son, all of whom played a lot of video games. They all watched plenty of TV too, and I never placed restrictions on either activity, although I certainly see the rationale for doing that. The two older boys grew interested in other stuff over time, went to college, got jobs, grew friendships, and generally turned out pretty darn good. The youngest still plays video games and watches a lot of TV, but loves getting out to play golf, disc golf, and cornhole. He also loves playing Chess, Stratego, and Risk, which I take time out to play with him. He's not interested in mountain biking, and that doesn't bother me. Suppose it really comes down to finding some balance, and sometimes that comes naturally and sometimes it has to be forced.
  17. You should go clipless and practice releasing from an overturned kayak.
  18. And if you wanted to steal music, you had to figure out a way to slip a 12" LP under your sweatshirt and sneak out of the store unnoticed.
  19. The only electronic game my brother and I had when we were kids was the vibrating football field that you plugged in and then flipped the switch to execute your plays. You'd spend 10 minutes lining up your players at the line of scrimmage and then hope that they would actually move forward instead of going around in circles. Would get bored quickly and proceed outside to play real football - tackle with no pads or helmets. End zones were often driveways.
  20. You'll need to check with RPR as normally they are only open for riding Fri-Sun.
  21. I'm likely to head out there on Sunday. Tomorrow looks like too much lightning for my liking.
  22. Did you move here from that area or were you just there visiting?
  23. Good read. Glad I'm replacing my Renthal Bar with a new one. My other two bikes both have Answer Protaper carbon bars, which seem to always be on sale for really cheap. Not sure if that is a bad thing or not. Looks like they fall under the same company that makes Manitou forks. I don't ride or crash those bikes nearly as much.
