  1. I live in an apartment complex in SW Austin that has a lot of open space, enough to build a trail of maybe 1/2 to 3/4 mile long that would include some interesting features. I've been toying with the idea and even walked of a section to see how it would flow. The Tip came here one day and thought it had potential too. Anyway, I was working on my bike a few weeks ago and the complex manager who lives on the property stopped and asked me if I could help her find a bike — the type with big wheels. I said I could and ended up building her a bike that she is really happy with (she had been a roadie for some years but stopped riding for some time. She wanted to start again, but not on the road)... So happy that she asked if I'd be interested in helping other people in the complex with their bike needs, and maybe start a biking group to take out on rides in the community. One thing led to another and I mentioned the idea of building a trail on the complex property. She was open to it, especially from the POV of security. Wonderful... But what are the legal implications of doing something like this?
  2. As a creative writer I enjoy coming across offbeat comments... I came across one this morning in the comments section of Pinkbike's article on the Yeti SB130 and though it good enough to share... "Thing is.. I could afford it. Especially if I manage to hide a price tag from my wife."
  3. Just thought having a thread with "How to..." videos might be helpful to some of us still learning, well, "How to..." do stuff. Came across this one by Phil. It's on landing jumps, which is something I've been considering lately...
  4. I was just looking for a short stem on eBay and saw some no-name items from China. Got me thinking about stem breakage. Only had this happen once to me — a Thomson faceplate broke by where the screw hole is, tighten too much possibly — but a Google search turns up all sorts of stem breaks. Anyone have this happen to them?
  5. Finishing a build for someone and need a chain guide. She's on a budget so I've used what older parts I could get my hands on... It's for a 1/9 drive... Not a narrow/wide ring, or a clutch derailleur... Chain shifts fine until you try a multiple cog shift to the highest gear, then it drops. I've used a front derailleur as a chain guide hack, and it works as the chain doesn't drop, but it looks kind of funky, so looking for a better looking solution. Thanks.
  6. I've been looking at extender for some time now... Just saw this... https://www.pinkbike.com/news/ibis-introduces-adjustable-width-carbon-handlebar.html
  7. I'm thinking that what he was getting at is if using carbon... Check it regularly... And employ a system of buying new every two or three years... Simply because the weakness that could be in carbon parts can remain hidden, even to the most intense visual inspection (not x-ray type suff).
  8. I started using Ergon many years ago after suffering from hand numbness (had a fall back in mid-90s where I landed my hypothenar eminence area of my right hand on the sharp edge of a rock... Suffered from numbness ever since). Read reviews and thought I'd give it a try. It worked... Bought a set for my wife when I got her into mtbing... Been using them ever since... One of the best $30+ investments I've made. This is the one I use...
  9. Came across this... (Not sure what happened... But if you click the FB logo at the top right corner it will open a tab to the person's comment).
  10. Let me see if I can help you out... Although I may not be into it... It is mtb related... And I haven't seen it on any other thread... Soooooo... I thought that others here might feel differently about it... And enjoy it. And... As it turns out... Ridenfool did. If I see something that I think the community might be interested in, I have no problem sharing it. Hope that helps you old man.
  11. What I appreciate about Seth's riding is his commitment... No double-mindedness. No should I or should I not questioning of himself... It's what you see in pro-level riders.
  12. I got a feed to the following on my FB page... As much as I'd like to, just can't get into this type of online magazine format. I find blogs just more user friendly. https://www.imbikemag.com/issue53/?Cover
  13. LOL... It's like some of you folk are just hovering around looking for any excuse to pounce. You all are funny.
  14. It seems that when I was writing my OP for the thread I started, this one was started — or maybe I just missed this one. I started to create my thread and then had to go do something and came back maybe an hour or so later and just finished it. Then after submitting it I saw that there was this thread on carbon bars.
  15. I just spoke about something like that in my thread on breaking handlebars.
