  1. I saw this on reddit yesterday.. https://www.reddit.com/r/Austin/comments/9f558f/word_of_warning_if_you_visit_cedar_breaks_park_at/ Someone else had an encounter with her as well,
  2. Army Corps of Engineers posted an update about this a few hours ago:
  3. Yeah, there are assholes everywhere, unfortunately. ..Al
  4. If they continue to ride Deception without helmets on Walmart bikes, that problem is going to take care of itself.
  5. Some percentage of people will see them and ride in the correct direction. Others will see them and intentionally ride whatever way they want. And then there are people who are completely oblivious and won't pay attention to the signage at all. But they certainly do help for those who are cognizant of their surroundings. And the more who know, the more they can help educate others when they come across them. ..Al
  6. I agree that many people would ignore them, but some people would read them. And you could point out the signs if someone tries to feign ignorance or states that it's not posted anywhere. ..Al
  7. Great idea! I've created a new MTB Destinations forum. I'll look to see if there are any relevant threads to move into this new forum. Thanks, ..Al
  8. Too bad there aren't a few signs like this at the trailheads. ..Al
  9. I usually have my wallet on me since I don't like leaving it in the car with all the cars that get broken into at trailheads. But I also have some cash in my pack in case I don't have my wallet for some reason. Usually this only gets used on really long rides if I stop at a convenience store to buy more water and/or other liquid refreshments. ..Al
  10. That is a damn good idea. I know someone who moved recently from Austin to Colorado Springs. Never been there, though, so don't know how good the mountain biking scene is. ..Al
  11. Man, I can't tell you how many times I've driven by (well, close enough by) Palo Duro and haven't stopped. I've never been there in the 20 years I've lived in Austin. I wonder how the weather there is in late October, as I'll have another opportunity then. Also never been out to Big Bend, not sure how good of a destination it is for mountain biking. Bentonville sounds like a good weekend trip if you can leave on Friday and come back Monday.
  12. Yeah, keeps raining up here in Round Rock. Haven't looked at radar at all.. Someday it might be dry again. ..Al
  13. Is that all it takes now to make it rain like this for two weeks? ..Al
  14. Damn, where did you hit barbed wire with your face? Having a mirror is interesting. I've used my phone before for such things, but that doesn't work as well as a mirror would.
  15. It'd be fun to go out there with a group of people all armed with loppers and folding saws, and make a complete circuit of the trail to trim stuff back. Again, I haven't been out there in a while, so I have no idea what it looks like right now. You are motivating me to go out to Warda, though! When (if) all the rain stops and we're able to ride trails again... ..Al
  16. Of all the trails, Thumper is the one where pre-rides would help me the most as I'm the least familiar with that trail. Will the Green Belt route be described anywhere so we don't have to depend on tape that could get taken down?
  17. They are probably still usable short-term, and it's rare for me to be walking around terrain with so many loose rocks when it's wet like that. Definitely need to get them replaced, though. They are also falling apart in other ways, so there's not really much life left in them. 😄
  18. Damn, that's scary. I was on a ride out of state in the wilderness several years ago and got stung on the neck by a bee. When I was a kid I was allergic to bee stings, so I was quite apprehensive about that. Hadn't been stung in quite some time, and was relieved I only had a mild reaction to it. I think it was just a yellowjacket.
  19. Well, I have managed to destroy my current shoes, so I need to buy another pair right away. I've had the best fit so far with Specialized, so I have to take a look at their current lineup.
  20. No kidding, it's been raining for hours here.
