  1. Finally replaced my broken mountain bike yesterday. Revel Rascal bought at Velorangutan. A week ago I made a joke to the wife about a brand new car (she shot it down). So then I joked about a brand new bike (and I was very specific). I didn't think she would actually order a bike for me. I went into Velo to check on Rascals. They said they have to check on inventory and get back to me. They connected the dots and realized my wife had just ordered a bike. They tried to help make it a surprise. They were trying to go out of their way on this Christmas surprise. This shop is a good find.
  2. One of those patents was just filed in May.
  3. Canfield is offering part replacement support to GG owners. I was really disaapointed GG pulled the plug.
  4. One thing I remember about Forest Ridge: the first time I came down the big hill, I narrowly missed a pretty big drop. Based on the Forest Ridge write up, I way underestimated my skills because I consider myself average but I always enjoyed Forest Ridge.
  5. I remember that storm well. Wife calls me on the phone to let me know she sees a tornado. Phone goes dead. I was doing ~100 on Parmer to get home, scared that my house and family got wiped out. I figured cops would cut me slack but I did not get pulled over. We were lucky. 10 blocks away, not so much. I went over there to help. I'm in construction and the cops took it to mean that I could survey buildings and let them know if it was safe to enter. Next thing I know, I have a police escort to Randalls because they thought people were trapped inside. As a part of Texas A&M's Engineering Extension Service, that had guys nicknamed tunnel rats who would worm themselves through rubble looking for people. I had to direct them where to go. Turns out nobody was trapped inside Randalls. What I learned is if you're in a grocery store during a tornado, head to the frozen food section. Those freezers are so stout they can hold up a collapsed roof. In 2001, those same tunnel rats ended up in NYC.
  6. Barton Creek Greenbelt from 360 to Zilker back in 1991. Still ride the trail. It was less technical. Also did a race at City Park in December of '91. Some guy named Lance won. Every Saturday I'd ride some Greenbelt and then do a loop at City Park back then. I was young and single.
  7. I've tried reaching out to them for over a week. Their website shows no bikes are available. I saw someone from a bike shop post that GG told them they were closing. I'm really bummed. It looks like they've spun off Revved to be a contract frame builder.
  8. I was waiting for them to re-release the Trail Pistol. Now I know why it didn't get re-released. They had great looking bikes. The 300% stronger boast they made had me hooked.
  9. Pic is from last week. I woke up to 46 degree temps. It peaked out around 80.
  10. My wife modified that rule to n-1 which is one bike less than what will get you divorced.
  11. I just got a Lauf True Grit. You can buy their fork which will give you some suspension. I've only gotten one ride on it. There is a trail behind my house that is mostly buff but has a little chunk. It handled it well. I'd consider riding it at Walnut or Rocky Hill. The Greenbelt and Deception or probably too chunky. I'll be taking this bike to ride Alpine Loop up at Silverton this summer. Gravel riding is a nice change of pace from road riding.
  12. Before Twin Creeks was built, there were some sweet trails back there. Had my best ever yard sale bombing down a hill there. My wife also claims a big ice storm last year. I don't remember that. Had the chainsaw out helping neighbors this weekend. We got lucky at our house.
  13. I had a group of teenagers going full gas on a narrow, blind section of trail at Brushy. I braced for impact and the lead kid crashed out. Saw them again on my way back to the Y and they hadn't learned their lesson. I guess I'm not on the trails when the e-bikes are out. It's the Stravassholes who are going to get us removed from multi-use trails.
  14. At your suggestion I rode Boggy Draw in June. Followed up with a tasty beverage and pizza from Dolores River Brewery. It was a fun trail to ride.
  15. @The Tip thanks for those references. The project will have a few bridges as well.
  16. Thanks for all the suggestions. KOM is who I was thinking about. The project is near Hamilton Pool. I wish it would result in more mtb trails for us, but it's all private land. The land manager is buddies with some guy named Lance.
  17. Thanks. I know they worked on Peddlers. Also River Place and Crystal Falls. The owner has mentioned Progressive who are out of Bentonville. Thought I'd try to keep it local if I can.
  18. Who is the trail building company? I have a significantly sized project on a resort near the Pedernales I'd like to talk to them about.
  19. I think I've settled on the Guerrilla Gravity Trail Pistol. The biggest selling point for me is their claim of it being 300% stronger than typical carbon fiber.
  20. First, thanks for posting the video links. I've gone down a rabbit hole. My gravel bike is SS. There is a simplicity to it. Less to maintain, less to think about when riding.
  21. When I moved to Austin many years ago, I rode City Park on a rigid bike. Only because any type of suspension was just coming out. Fortunately, City Park wasn't as eroded out as it is now. Trust me, being able to ride rigid out there want a reflection of my abilities. I really miss Forest Ridge.
  22. I started with a 3x5 setup. And the Girvin Flex Stem was considered front suspension. My first ride on a 1x blew my mind.
