  1. It's a coffee/dessert shop called OMG Squee. It shares a space with Eastside Pedal Pushers, which is right next to a bike path. The store was struggling, but Queer Eye featured it in an episode last season when they were in Austin (yes, I've watched every episode) and popularity has exploded since then. I wanted to visit for a long time because they seem to be the only place in town with Ube flavored drinks but they had weird hours. I finally went when it was not too busy and it was nice, but that location is not good for the amount of traffic they're getting now. I thought there was a bike path right there. The satellite image and Street View are out of date.
  2. I don't know if people of Reddit are going to really do anything, but this is terrifying to anyone who rides here. summary: people driving on bike path because a) they suck and b) the nearby roads don't have enough space for traffic.
  3. I like to fantasize about it, not live it. I just re-watched Years and Years on HBO and that's a hard one to watch, considering how much of it predicted headlines years before things happen in the show.
  4. I slapped this together just now. Enjoy. https://sidewallthorn.blogspot.com/2023/01/new-bike-day-marino-custom-hardtail.html
  5. PNW Bachelor post, 30.9mm diameter with 150mm travel. Actuator lever not included. $100
  6. I'm trying to figure out the most interesting (fewest roads) way to get to Moore's Crossing. It's just south if the airport. I think they have hosted CX races there. Coming from downtown or southwest Austin, are there some lesser-known paths that I am missing?
  7. It's kinda heavy. Nearly seven pounds with hardware, but that's about what my Karate Monkey, steel Hinzo, or a steel RSD Middlechild weighs. My Niner ROS9 was heavier. That means I can send it! Starting with the 495mm rigid fork, probably going to swap to my 120mm Mazocchi Bomber soon. I designed the frame around this specific fork, so I'm going to see how it handles . Compared to the KM, this bike: *Shorter rear end. I could not fit a 34/21 gear on the KM with the chainstay this short, but the 420mm on this fits. *Lower BB, but within reason *Longer wheelbase, mostly from adding to the front end. *Stem changed from 70mm to 50mm *Larger diameter seatpost (30.9–31.6) with an extra 30mm of travel 150 – 180 *Considerably lower standover. Added bonus: no more smashing my brake levers into the top tube when I fall off. The geo is very similar to many modern trail hardtails, but optimized for a 120mm 29er fork, whereas most modern bikes are designed around a taller fork. Rear tire clearance: that's a pre-boost chainline with a 34t ring! In the box were this shirt with reflective print and an extra axle and sliders.
  8. I only played the original game from 2013 within the last year (not a big gamer). I love what they've done with the idea and the way it differs from the game. the story and the sci-fi element are different, but so far, the characters are spot-on. I'm a sucker for survival/dystopian/zombie stories of all types.
  9. I was riding with a friend one day and passed a mom hiking with a young boy. I heard the boy say, "look mom. Those guys are bumpy ridin'!" as we bounded through a rock garden. So from now on, "mountain biking" in Texas shall be known as "bumpy riding."
  10. I'm not sure if there's a big Chinese enclave in Peru, but it's possible.
  11. I asked a question a few days ago but have not gotten a response either. The Marino FB group reports similar experiences this week as well. https://www.facebook.com/groups/220557769424981/permalink/717087856438634/?mibextid=Nif5oz Fortunately for me, my frame arrived in Florida yesterday, so the delivery date is coming!
  12. The Travis Country pumptrack might be a good option. You're never more than a 60-second ride back to your car if you park near it. On that note, the Mueller concrete pumptrack is generally mellow and they built a tiny, even mellower pumptrack area for beginners. Gaylord Sackler Memorial Skate Park https://maps.app.goo.gl/P2qbu7DrGGWUbNht77 Not dirt, but still fun! The Mueller neighborhood has miles of gravel paths with sculptures and gardens to explore, and you can stop for ice cream along the way.
  13. I concur, MSCT is not as easy as I remember it from my first few visits. It might be a good intro for a very ambitious and athletic rider who is starting out, but might be too frustrating for kids and less ambitious riders. Onion Creek trail will teach you—one way or another—to respect horses. Equestrian travel if permitted on Slaughter as well, but I've see a lot more horses on Onion. Anyone have feedback on the riding at McKinney Falls?
  14. Can anyone comment on the status of trails here? https://facebook.com/events/s/east-austin-trail-tour-at-litt/5013412248712983/
  15. SATN if you know what trails to avoid. There's some chunk mixed in there for sure, but not much elevation. Muleshoe Bend is mostly green. There's a few green routes in Reimers Ranch but it might not be worth the long drive. Slaughter Creek Trail, with the only entrance on 1826 is beginner-friendly with a few character-building rock gardens thrown in. It's a relatively short, one-way loop with a bonus spur. Impossible to get lost and easy to gauge your progress to see how skillfully you tackle the obstacles that are there.
  16. nevermind. I measured my butt and this seems like it will fit. Interpret that however you want.
  17. Anyone from SW Austin want to carpool to help with limited parking?
  18. Austin Public Library has this available as an audiobook in the Libby app. The stories of scandal over women "taking to the wheel" and "turning in their skirts for bloomers" are hilariously quaint now. people absolutely lost their minds over riding bikes all the time, and were horrified that women were gaining freedom because of bikes.
  19. to give: used, hard, black bar tape. I had this Arundel bar tape on my gravel bike, but I didn't like the hard texture. It might not make good bar tape, but because it's so tough, I thought someone might want to wrap their drive-side chainstay in it, or wrap the handle of a tool for a little extra grip.
  20. Highlight of my day: seeing how much some if my favorite vloggers are enjoying e-bikes. https://youtu.be/0LLiojFAY4o
