  1. To buy spokes, I'd recommend the additional cost of double-butted spokes. There should be an eBay seller called childhood_dreams that sells spokes at reasonable prices. You could also call Dan's Competition about spokes. I've always used the calculator of Sheldon's site.
  2. I bought some American Classic valve stems. Superior design, uses o-rings, flange on the inside so you can't rip the rubber gasket off. Much cheaper that the titanium ones above. Aluminum is certainly strong enough for this application. https://amclassic.com/index.php/tubeless-parts/tubeless-valve-pair.html
  3. Derail- before you buy spokes, measure your rim ERD yourself. Measure 3 times to be certain. Measure the hubs yourself. Use a spoke calculator of course, but don't trust manufacturer claims about size. (I have been burned when I calculated spoke length for some WTB rims and the spokes came up 2mm too short. WTBs rim dimensions were off and WTB confirmed that their data was wrong.)
  4. I'm also on a KM. I am lighter but using narrower rims at considerably higher pressure. I have not dented a rim lately, but hearing the pings is getting old. I've gotten a few flats that way, and I have not had a tube in my tires for over 8 years.
  5. Who is using Nukeproof ARD? I need a solution: 25mm internal rims, 29x2.4 tires, 160 pound rider on hardtail. I need to run 28-30 psi (checked using an Accu-Gauge) to keep from pinging my rims. on SATN stuff, no less. What's a better investment: wider rim (I build my own wheels) or inserts? (Very, very skeptical about CushCore. $150 for two foam rings seems like a scam.)
  6. I am in favor flogging riders who ride muddy trails and live-streaming the whole affair.
  7. Nah, got to it covered. Oddly enough, I don't need anything right now.
  8. I have two tires with failed beads. I cut each in one spot from bead to bead so they would not go on another rim again and risk blowing off the rim. These might make good frame protectors or DIY belts: 700x32 Gravelking SK 700x38 G-One
  9. Weekend of March 20. https://www.eventsquid.com/spectator-reg.cfm?event_id=6534 Anyone else want to go? I kinda want to go, but it might be depressing to spend all day looking at bikes I can't afford.
  10. I would just strip the bike down to the frame, leaving only the headset cups. I do this two my bikes about twice a year. Not very time-consuming if your workspace is organized. Deep clean all the nooks where dust works it's way in, true wheels, lube and thread-lock stuff, check for worn out bearings, etc.

  12. I believe that Unit has sliders, not track ends. The type of axle should not matter much in that case. If the bike has track ends, the QR can wiggle. With sliding dropouts, that can't happen.
  13. Is that saddle available? What model/ size?
  14. Wait, Hill Country Hundy is the same day. Crap! No refunds, but if anyone wants to do me a huge favor and let me transfer my registration to you, you can pay me back somehow.
  15. I found this rad Swift gym the other day. I might join but it sounds like it takes a long time to get 15M merits.
  16. I just signed up for the Holey Roller too.
  17. What's up with the apparent neo-Nazi presence? "Very good people on both sides," right? Nothing is more American than punching a fucking Nazi in the mouth.
  18. Grease, anti-seize, or something like Loctite 242 is all that is needed for BB cups. Teflon tape works too, but any of those work IF the cups are torqued properly. The only thing that would cause a creak are dry threads or under-torqued cups. If you greased the threads originally and water got in there, it could wash out the grease and leave a corroded interface that could creak.
  19. Take it apart, grease and tighten everything. Loose pedals and chainring bolts. CR bolts should be tight, like 12Nm! Check all the nooks and crannies of the frame for cracks.
  20. I don't have one, but the "computer store" inside Goodwill on Research/ Metric probably does. That place is actually amazing
  21. Blah blah blah. I left the print publishing industry because I was making a little over $15 an hour after several years in the industry. It could work but I'm not wasting my time with it. "Zines" are fun. The Central Library has a huge collection of amateur zines you can peruse for inspiration. I'll contribute content to a website that wants to share info about riding bikes though. No money, no problem.
  22. Peddler in Cedar Park. I've built a ton of wheels in my living room with a cheap trying stand. It's not hard to learn.
