  1. I read what happened to Seth with his handlebar breaking and it got me thinking about how handlebars break. It seems that most break around the area where the shifter/brakes are attached to the handle bar (or just a little inside of that area). I understand this has to do with overtightening, and possibly because it's a thinner part of the handlebar that gets a lot of pressure. I didn't see many breaks at the stem though, which you'd think would be a place where a lot of pressure is exerted, and where overtightening can take place. Just wondered if the saving on weight is really that necessary when it comes to handlebars... Why not just have thicker handlebars... Or even solid handlebars. Or maybe handlebars that are reinforced at known break points (take a piece of metal tubing and insert at these points inside the hollow section of the handlebar). Or come up with an accessory that redirects pressure away for the pressure point, effectively dispersing the pressure across a wider area. Here's a video of a lucky rider using an unusual handlebar...
  2. I'm in need of a very short stem... 40mm or less. I'll confirm the handlebar size later today. Thanks.
  3. The OP of this thread said that there was an event happening in the Bentonville trail area... I was simply giving suggestions of what I know to be good options that are all within an hour or so drive of Bentonville. I was thinking make a day-trip outside of Bentonville on one of the days of the 3-day OZ event, and then ride the local trails on the other days. That way it's not three days of only riding trails with lots of riders on them. It's also just a suggestion.
  4. Lots of great trails outside of the Bentonville area, but within an hour's drive. Head to Fort Smith and hit Springhill Park — fast flowy rolling flat singletrack 10-mile loop that's great going both directions for a 20-mile blast ride. Then hit Ben Geren Park Trail, and after Lee Creek Reservoir Trail (both flowy with some hills to climb)... Then start heading back to Bentonville and hit Mt Kessler (10 + miles of advanced riding), and end with Lake Fort Smith trail (about 7 miles flowy — 14 if you ride the opposite way too — with maybe 600-700 ft. combined climbing depending on how you ride it. It's a full day of riding if you start out early, that will give you around 70-80 miles of really fast fun flowy trail, with a pretty advanced technical trail thrown in. And that's just for one day, and all within and hour's drive of Bentonville.
  5. Bought this for someone who asked me to get her a bike to ride on easy trails, but it's a little big — she's 5'4". Seems Giant made these frames a bit on the larger side. Great reviews of the bike, but a couple reviewers said that its handling (70 degree head angle) could be made better with a longer travel fork than the 100mm it came with. It is a pretty light frame, so it could be built into a fairly nimble singlespeed mtb. Anyway, just checking to see if anyone is interested in it before I put it up on eBay. VG condition... $300, or make a reasonable offer. Nice color scheme... It's like the one in the photo (I think the weight is in grams, which would mean the frame weighs 4lbs). Here's a link to a mtbr thread on it... http://forums.mtbr.com/giant/talon-owners-767476.html
  6. A trip to Arkansas can give many mtb trail options that don't require staying around a city... https://www.singletracks.com/bike-trails/upper-buffalo-mtb-trails.html And for the long distance riders... https://www.singletracks.com/bike-trails/ouachita-trail.html
  7. I'm building a bike for someone in my apartment complex. She saw me working on my bike and stopped and asked if I could help her get one that she could ride around the neighborhood trails. I found a hardtail but need some rims and fork. Nothing expensive. I thought maybe someone has something that they took off of a bike they bought. No need for cassette etc... Just the wheels... Front 100x9mm, rear 135/10mm. And teh fork can be a Suntour type. She won't be riding anything rough. Thanks.
  8. Bought a hardtail yesterday and one of the rims has a broken nipple (spoke is fine). I've not seen this before and did some research into it and found some different thoughts regarding how it may have happened... And some different thoughts on how to deal with it. Anyone here have experience in this?
  9. Sorry, Tip... I thought you were riffing off of the comments of others that were directed at me.
  10. I completely agree... Absolutely don't pay attention to noobs.
  11. Actually... "...he...", meaning me... Joined Mojo back before 2012 I believe. I just had my old account on my old computer and decided to create a new account when I started riding again last year. That aside... Don't get so emotional about me and what I say, Tip. Shoot... This forum was a few days old and some gloryhole-seeker thought it necessary to hijack my Mojo user name for the purpose of attempting to mock me. How desperate for attention is that person. My post on Mojo was just a simple line I threw out show how easy it is to catch these fools. Sorry that went over your head. I work on forums many hours each day, Tip... It really doesn't matter to me what they look like. They're all just pixels on a screen that I'm happy to participate in producing.
  12. I still go to both, not a big deal. TheX thinking with his hard-on for me... Again. Dude... Just letting you know... I'm married... To a woman... And I'm good.
  13. I used Stans for a couple of years back in '10-'12... Worked fine then. Haven't tried it in a while though, don't know if they changed the formula.
  14. Talking reggae's finest... Classic Uhuru... With Sly Dunbar and Robbie Shakespeare... None better...
  15. LOL... Sure... An honest question... That just needed to be asked... For no other reason that to get an honest response. Kind of like the content of my posts back on MoJo. LOL.
  16. Thanks for taking on the job.
