The Tip
I rode past it yesterday. There is no way that it will open today. But they are making progress. You could definitely ride over it now if there weren't any workers around.
mack_turtle
that's a good update. I thought it was going to take a lot longer than that. open just in time for full-fledged springtime? will that divert some folks off the trails? let's hope! taco_junkie
I'd be surprised if it actually opens today but I haven't been up there in 4-5 days. I've seen people walking behind the sound wall towards the Veloway on the east side of mopac. There's a lot of room there and a lot of loose construction dirt. taco_junkie
I went up there yesterday afternoon and they were still working so I went back again this morning and it's open. Northbound on to Mopac from La Crosse was closed for some reason this morning. Not that I need to drive anywhere anymore.
The Tip
Rode across it today. Very interesting that they open it when they still have lots of work to do on it. So different from other road projects where they won't open until everything, including paint, signage, and lighting, are totally complete. I asked a supervisor on a job one time why they wouldn't open the road that looked totally complete. "It has to be 100% for contractual and insurance reasons." Also strange that the most popular option, going north on Mopac, is not open. But as a biker that is no concern to us.

I've ridden across it a few times now on the wrong side of the cones to stay separate from the cars. 👍
