mack_turtle
This is nothing new, but I just discovered what3words. it's a mapping tool that breaks down most of the Earth into a 3-meter by 3-meter grid. each square on the grid is assigned a three-word phrase. this could be very useful for marking all kinds of things, but I would like to see mountain bikers share the locations of trail heads and features. for example, if you're trying to tell someone how to access SATN from Dick Nichols Park, you can tell them to park in the lot and ride across the field and look for the entrance blah blah blah. or you can tell them that the entrance is at ///drip.ruptured.prying. this is not the best example because that trail entrance is not hard to find, but for the location of very specific features and hard-to-find spots, it could be very useful. it would be a big undertaking, but perhaps @AustinBike would want to start specifying locations on his site to help explorers find stuff. AntonioGG
Here's the old thread: Google is also rolling out something called Plus Codes. I wish they'd integrated what3words instead since it's so much easier to remember! https://www.geospatialworld.net/blogs/google-maps-plus-codes-addressing-system/
mack_turtle
Yup, I knew I had seen it somewhere before. When people ask me about trailheads and such, I'll start using this.
