  1. Looped the lake yesterday - at least 4 big trees down and looks like they have been there for a while based on how burned in the reroutes are. A couple are in really dangerous spots, one at head level in the middle of a south side downhill. In addition there’s miles of overgrowth on the south and north near Tejas. Ruined a pair of socks and jersey just from all the little burrs and at times you can’t even tell where the trail is if there was a lot of traffic out there I’d be afraid of head on collisions given how tall it all is. I’ve ridden here for years and it’s amazing to see how blown out and eroded a lot of spots are getting. But it’s still an epic adventure and so thankful to have this option where I live!

  2. Work on the extension to Manor is underway from the north end of the Southern Walnut Creek Multi-use Path at Daffan Lane. When construction was underway on the now completed Southern Walnut Creek Path, we went with a group of friends on multiple trips to ride mtn bikes through the construction zone on Sundays to explore and chart progress. I made a joking reference on Facebook about an overview of the route and construction corridor (there may be an existing rough two-track) and noted it would be fun to explore on a mtn bike. Pretty quickly, a City of Austin rep posted up, "Please don't do that..."

  3. Has anyone figured out how to watch live/replay of the 2023 season? I have Discovery+ but they aren’t making it easy. You’d think with the amount of $$$ they spent on the rights, they put a little effort into making sure people can actually view it.

  4. Most importantly, when volunteering to trim trail ALWAYS cut the branch flush with the trunk or flush with the ground and NEVER, NEVER cut diagonally as this will leave a spear. This happened because someone "just helping out" wasn't educated about this. Please spread the word about how dangerous this innocent mistake can be and watch for and fix any diagonal cuttings you find that can result in injuries like this.

  6. Everything discovery touches dies. Hoping redbull starts their own series and DH goes there. All the uci cares about is road biking anyway. 7. No one is going to ‘replace’ Rob. I have D+ On Roku for other stuff, so I’ll keep it for now, but I still can’t figure how they except anyone to watch MTB. I’m really only interested in the Elite Finals. I’ve been able to get enough of practice & quali from riders & PinkBike/VitalMTB YouTube channels in the past. ETA, GCN+... what’s that going to cost me?

  8. GCN+ is the platform for US viewing. I miss Rob Warner but aside from that my experience with the new telecasts has been just fine.

  9. A fatality was reported this past week at Brushy Creek. AJ Camp posted this on facebook on June 8: "From what I was told by my fireman buddy (just wasn't on shift but it was his station that responded), a man and his child roughly 10 yrs old were riding Picnic when he fell and was struck by a punji stick just below armpit height. He apparently removed the stick/spear from his wound and then later when emergency services tried to help him he was combative - was a big guy so was hard to calm down. He was probably in some type of shock. He passed later - don't know if in transit or at hospital, but I head - at the hospital."
