  1. To be fair, I'm not an aggressive rider who sprints the trails but I do expect my tire to grip and not slip. I have the Ikon on the back and I cheeped out on the front with a WTB Trail Boss. The performance is very similar but the Trail Boss doesn't have exo protection. The original plan was to only ride it on the BCRT but I've taken it all over Brushy and Walnut and I've really liked the combo. When I tire (pun intended) of the Negevals I'm putting an Ikon on at least the rear of my FS, haven't decided on the front yet.
  2. Yay, Tire thread!!! IMO, I really like the Ikon ont he back of my 27" HT, I've used it on all kinds or surfaces and it does what I need. (I ride 80% Brushy and 20% Walnut). By comparison, the 26" Nevegals on my FS which I used to like in the PNW are good on roots and tacky days (hero dirt) but not great on dry days and rocks. I rode a demo bike with DHFs and the conditions were SUPER tacky. The tires never mudded up but it was like hitting the brakes on every dirt section. SO MUCH DRAG. If I bought that bike the first thing I'd do is ditch the DHFs.
  3. For now. I'd be happy to ride an Electric Dirtbike once the range is equivalent to a gas one. I had a 4.2Gal on my XR280L. On fire roads this was hundreds of miles, on trails it was 100-150. There's no electric bike that can come close to that yet. Battery tech will get there and that's what will change everything.

  5. This is the condition of my bike as I purchased it. A true parts bin bike. It's been fun slowly upgrading it to what I want over the years.
  6. Admin Question, Can we get this thread renamed to "Brushy Creek - Conditions" or something similar? Just to avoid the confusion in my inbox when I get updates. It's the little things.
  7. Devil's advocate: I don't know who is doing it but I've ridden the BCRT after several of our Rainstorms over the last 2 years where we got 2"+ overnight and within days someone has been out there with fresh crushed rock to fill all of the trenches caused by the runoff or at least orange cones showing the "Danger". I've also seen the concrete portions cleared of any accumulated crushed rock. I've actually been impressed with the rapid response. My guess is that they probably had a runner threaten over a rolled ankle or something. The nature signs have always been blank/vandalized/ unreadable for as long as I've seen them though. It's clear their goals for the trail are safety/ liability control.
  8. My College roommate got Pneumonia once. So bad to the point that he just lived in a recliner wearing a mask for several days. He was really out of it, he couldn't even say "pneumonia" we had to write it out phonetically on a piece of paper and hang it on the wall so he could tell visitors what he had. "NEW-MOAN-YAH" Anyways, he wasn't as bad as his dad who had his wisdom teeth removed. They where impacted pretty bad I guess. Lots of scraping and cutting of bone to get them out. One in particular was pretty bad. Anyways, this left him with severe pain and throbbing from how difficult it was for the oral surgeon to remove it. He ended up on all kinds of pain killers and such. The kind that were super effective but highly addictive. Luckily he didn't get addicted or anything, which is a good thing because another friend of mine was involved in a really bad motorcycle incident where he was on a bunch of painkillers too and he had a family friend (who I didn't know) who warned him about how addictive they were; I guess it kind of messed him up. My friend got off them as fast as he could for fear of having the same issue. Super serious stuff. Anyways my roommate's dad who was on pain killers because of the surgery. I said earlier that it was from wisdom teeth but I might be thinking of someone else... his might have been an appendix removal. Either way, 8-10 weeks after he recovered and was off the meds a large package showed up. He was super confused because he was like "WTH, I didn't order anything". So he quizzed his whole family about what they might have bought and everyone was clueless. When he opened it he found out it was a bike! Super weird since he already had a 1991 Schwinn 10 speed in the garage that he hadn't ridden since 1992. Keep in mind this is 2005 or thereabouts so it wasn't like he was an avid rider or anything. So the package being a bike really didn't help the situation. He ended up emailing the company who shipped the bike to get more information and to find out who got him a bike. After several days of back and forth he figured out that it was one of those "Auto-Shifting" bikes that were sold on infomercials in the early 2000s. When he asked who ordered it they assured him that HE had in-fact ordered it. This blew his mind because of course he doesn't remember ordering a bike. But then it hit him: "The Painkillers". He must have been blitzed out his mind watching daytime infomercials and told himself "I should buy a bike". And so he did. I guess he said it was pretty cool, because you could just "ride" and it would shift for you, didn't matter if you were going up hill, going slow or fast. A little gimmicky but it worked. So a few weeks go by and he hasn't ridden the bike since the initial test ride because, he doesn't really ride bikes. Sometimes I see products like these zipper tires and go "I did not know that problem existed". And they I think about all of the stoned middle aged men who don't need them buying these things.
  9. I like how it allows me to just block users signatures too. Finally I can turn off all of the offensive signatures with language such as "2017/8 this" and "29r/27.5 that". 26" WILL NEVER DIE!!! (at least a long as I'm too cheap to upgrade)
  10. Agreed, lots of videos on "How to prepare for wet weather riding". Wet Weather Riding has different connotations in different places. DO NOT RIDE WET TRAILS was an adjustment for me when I moved here. After riding a borderline trail once and helping out on a trail crew a few times I completely understand. Not all soil/dirt/loam/clay is alike.
  11. If they survive Seth, they'll survive anything I'll give 'em. We need a "Seth Seal of Approval" for products that don't break.
  12. NEVERMIND! I actually got a spare wheelset with the bike and found the washers I needed hanging on the other axle. I also stole the tubes out of it. that being said, now, I have a spare 18" wheel set if anyone needs them. Tires are bald but rims are in good shape as far as kids rims go.
  13. I was hoping for some help with a kids bike I picked up off the curb. It's the perfect size for my oldest daughter who's well on her way to being a future MTB buddy. 🙂 The bike is intact except for tubes and front axle lock washers. I can track down the tubes but I haven't had luck on the washers. Here is a picture of what I am looking for. TIA!
  14. I love my work-stand, I had some home brew set up before and it's totally worth having a real clamp. That being said, I can't bring myself to clamp on the stantion, no matter what they say (I like the PT video guys too). I use crazyt's method above to clamp on my AL top tube. Really doesn't need to be that tight to get the bike to position at any angle I'd need. I've got the PCS-12 which makes this really easy to accomplish because of it's clamp and screw adjustment.
  15. Interesting is right... I've printed and designed/printed a few things on my 3D printer for my bikes: Multi-tool Holder for my Fanny Pack: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3284483 Camelback Dryer: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2141643 Chain Holder (This has been very handy): https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:630093 Chain Master Link tool https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1405895
  16. I'll also say, it was spray painted black so any alignment rings that might be there are covered up.
  17. It's possible it was installed wrong by the PO, I just took the AB Kool-aid and figured it was bad.
  18. My HT came with the Deckas. I've had the AB on my FS. The Deckas is crap. Night and day difference in feel with the AB. The AB almost feels like it's not there because the timing on the oval fits so well into my pedal stroke. The Deckas felt like I was surging. Fast, Slow, Fast, Slow, etc.
  19. Fun video! I never understood why MTB bars used to be so narrow. After growing up on 70s, 80s, 90s and 00s dirtbikes (trail bikes and dualsports) all of the factory bars were wide.
  20. What like they don't have the foul stench of Mojo on them? 😉
  21. Remind me never to ask about Gnargasm...
  22. BTW, that whole section of Peddlers is AWESOME! It almost needs a double back point to ride it 2x on a lap. Thanks HB for all the work! Keep posting work days!
