the shock so the main shaft of a coil shock is a metal rod about 1/2" in diameter. essentially, the lateral rigidity and structural integrity all depends on that little shaft. that 1/2" diameter shaft isnt going to dissipate lateral loads and forces as well as the air shaft of an X2 air shock which is probably 1 1/2 - 2" in diameter. I just thought these bike manufacturers and engineers would be making these frames and linkages to provide all the stiffness independently from the shock being involved to help with stiffness.. since thats not why the shock is there. but that do I know. apparently this also voids the fox warranty. but I am now seeing that this is on their website -

Just spoke to pivot- “Bikes with a suspension yoke - aka “wishbone linkage”, particularly the longer travel bikes such as the Pheonix DH bike and firebird are not recommended for coil shocks as the yoke puts heavy loads laterally on the rear shock which can cause failure” apparently it’s a “blurb” mentioned somewhere on their website. I haven’t looked for that statement yet though. So a big heads up for any of you running a coil on your bikes with a yoke/wishbone linkage system. I’m assuming this applies to bikes with simlar linkage designs outside of the pivot brand

Pulled out 4th place/37 in open men at the angelfire 5 DH Race this weekend. Missed 3rd by .8 seconds. Bittersweet. Awesome time!

Angekfire 2019 season opener- Awesome. the trails, so good my DH bike, not so good. Look at this shit! Landed off a jump and heard a loud snap. Thought I broke my frame and looked down to the shock just hanging in two piece. 2018 (new warranty replacement last August) Fox RC4 coil with 500lb spring. I rode city park CW on Thursday. man, that sucked! all awkward ass climbing work and felt like zero pay off. no thanks

white mesa in rio rancho is a must hit if you've never been. Windsor is fantastic. south boundary is one for the books.

IMO the three crucial tools needed for most trial building are - McLeod - great versatile tool - digging, light bench cutting, vegetation removal, moves dirt really well - if you have to pick ONE tool - I would definitely say get a Mcleod Large Pick Axe - (5lb, fiberglass handle, not wood) - bench cutting, vegetation removal. breaking up/loosening the packed soil Leaf rake - really really great tool for sifting crap & debris out of dirt, moving dirt, shaping berms, lips, etc. its a finishing tool. makes the trails look really nice and smooth and pretty. I like the leaf rake a ton because you can move or shape dirt on the top without tilling up more dirt underneath what you are scraping. if you're gonna get a leaf rake I suggest a truper or equivalent all-metal rake. even the heavy duty plastic ones break often beyond that - chainsaw and leaf blower are my main power tools I use

MOne of the rules I live by on the trail- always ride your own shit first. Call me captain Guinea pig. A few things went wrong here- firstly my cleats and pedals are worn out and I popped out right off the lip, then the landing was too short/ I was going too fast and overshot the landing and landed to flat, rolled front tire and nose wheelie OTB into the camera man. follow these steps for happiness - 1.) take off foil hat 2.) put on biking helmet 3.) log into facebook while still wearing your helmet 4.) join TMERP group 5.) inform yourself of upcoming events 6.) shred, yap, and braap
