  1. Grammar nag mode on: Seth has a slightly used "then" in another thread that could be swapped for that "than" in the sentence above to balance things out nicely. A unique circumstance where these two words actually could be interchangeable. Grammar nag mode off. Okay, I'll stop now. Really, I will ... 🙃
  2. Awe shucks, you're welcome! Always willing to "drop" a little gnarledge into a thread if it may be helpful.
  3. You do know that "then" and "than" are different words, each with its own unique application, right? (maybe you are doing voice to text and it is messing this up, but it seemed worth mentioning)
  4. Isn't that the new QR Boost axle?
  5. Charlie, you do realize how this was a missed opportunity to create a Youtube hit.
  6. My 90 y.o. neighbor texted to let me know she was just informed they are looking for someone with a gun at Rocky Hill and to lock the doors.
  7. Yeah, the comment was intended as sarcasm on my part, (hence the Rolleyes) for exactly the reasons you've stated. I always look forward to riding the dried mess after a cycle or running event in the wet there. (more sarcasm) Calling to ask about the trails is a fool's errand as Grey and Pam have no way to know unless somebody tell them. More likely than not they are at their house on the coast in Rockport answering the call.
  8. It seems that RHR must be rideable as the 24 hour race crowd is setting up camp. The fact that this event has always gone on rain or shine is significant in determining just what might be considered acceptable riding conditions for those who enjoy this particular form of torture. My guess is that there will be a lot of grit destroyed components replaced after this race.
  9. There's been rain? So, that's what that stuff is. I was wondering.
  10. What? Y'all don't carry a semi-auto pistol with laser sights and a couple of extra clips, with a Bowie knife for backup, just in case the Zombie Apocalypse happens while you're on a ride? If this is the case, I'm thinking there is someone over on BartMojo.com who would be disappointed in the lack of strategic planning here. Those frame-mounted bags look interesting, but I prefer to have it all in the Osprey Raptor. Sure, it's heavy, but it is all in one place. (no weapons beyond a saw or lopper on occasion) The phone goes into one of the side waist pockets on the Raptor with the screen facing soft, meaty, me. Easy access, and so far no damage.
  11. There's a guy I know in Spicewood with Tandem racing experience if you need any advice. His vast well of knowledge also extends to goat impregnation, and aquarium sales.
  12. Oddly, seeing this highly advanced version has me curious if there is a Land Speed Record for Penny Farthings?
  13. University Cyclery and Bucks were the Giant dealers last I checked. Giant builds some nice frames and the Maestro suspension is proven for years. I had a Reign back in the day, thinking back, it was one of my favorite bikes. Giant will offer a better value compared to a boutique brand. Unless you are just breaking frames left and right, like some here are prone to do, you may not notice spending twice as much on a bike results in it providing twice as much fun as can be had on a mass-market bike. If budget is tight, you're on the right track with Giant. If budget isn't an issue, then there are plenty to choose from. The Trance is a mid-travel frame and the huckers will be recommending long-travel frames. Make sure you are comparing apples to apples and that you get the bike that best fits your style of riding.
  14. Browndog, you could have waited until after you rode it before casually tossing the words "new bike" out into the aether to call the spirits of precipitation.
  15. I've been in Austin this week and got home last night. So, no first hand account. Things look good based upon looking at the yard (a few miles from RHR). I say go for it, and watch radar and nearby weather stations for detail should anything pass by between now and when you head that way. Forecast currently looks good through Saturday with just shy of an inch of precip expected in the wee hours Sunday morn.
  16. I'm going to add walking around the Austin Convention Center as a form of exercise to really wipe out the feet and legs. Maybe I should have brought better shoes for the task. One more day of it ahead ...
  17. I didn't see an FS Enduro model, perhaps they are just stringing us along.
  18. ... and, If you keep 2 rings, consider putting a Rock Ring in place of the big ring you removed. This "upgrade" drastically reduces the chance of getting a "chainring tattoo" (where a get off, slipping off a pedal, etc. results in the teeth on the exposed ring leaving their unique, personalized pattern permanently in your calf, and usually a simultaneous blood-letting to appease the trail gods accompanies the tattoo work).
  19. It looks like TrailForks has some trails that follow the Trinity around downtown cowtown and lead to a trail system on the East side. https://www.trailforks.com/trails/trinity-trails-fort-worth/ https://www.trailforks.com/trails/buckin--bronco/
  20. Well, ... it wasn't really bad until I got home. Or, it was bad and I was ignoring it until I got home. Because I have always done all my own stunts I have gained a wealth of experience over the years in pain management.
  21. Between the FS and being the son of an Aggie I'm covered for all transgressions.
  22. To be clear, this wasn't ON the trail, in fact I couldn't even find the trail at that point. Doubtful that anyone else will ever have to deal with this particular group of critters' attitude.
  23. Recovery is progressing nicely and I'm headed into Austin at noon for administration of additional therapies. Kicking off an upcoming IT convention in town with a Hewlett-Packard sponsored meet-up at Eastciders Collaboratory this afternoon. Drink, food, swag, and nerdy fellowship should do the trick to get me in shape for the next three days at the convention center for Spiceworld 11. This post is only vaguely related to trail conditions at RHR, but relevant just the same as I will be driving past RHR on the way.
