  1. Got my Karoo yesterday and took it for a ride. I downloaded the Texas offline maps. Anyone know if it's possible to load and view satellite maps?
  2. Yep, I can send the 1030 into Garmin to get it repaired for $140. I'll probably do that and either keep it as a backup or sell it.
  3. Thanks for the offer. I went ahead and ordered the Karoo, it looks like an upgrade from my garmin 1030.
  4. My Garmin died today so I dug up this thread. Are you guys still happy with the Karoo? Is it compatible with Garmin quarter turn mounts?
  5. I've built my last few bikes mostly because I like to cut the fork tube to my desired height. Always seemed like you can spend less money if you can find a good deal on a complete bike. Regarding 11 speed vs 12 speed, I went from an XX1 11 speed setup to a X01 12 speed setup about 7 months ago. I've had no problem keeping the 12 speed dialed in and tuned. But I will say that the 11 speed shifted SO MUCH nicer (smoother with much less effort) than the 12 speed. I don't know if it's a XX1 vs X01 thing or 11 vs 12. If anyone has any info on that, let me know.
  6. Classic case of my sarcasm/joke not coming across in writing.
  7. 5th option: carry your superlight $35 tube for yourself, and a spare $5 tube for give-aways.
  8. I actually might be willing to spend the money to drop the weight, but the showstopper for me, as others have mentioned, is that I'm just as likely to give away my spare tube than use it myself, and ain't no way I'm giving away a $35 tube, or trying to explain to someone that it's a $35 tube.
  9. Usually your ride will get flagged pretty quickly when that happens, since whoever you beat on the KOM will get an email notification that they've been beat.
  10. I found some sunglasses on the greenbelt. I looked up the price and damn! If you lost some, let me know what and where and we can make arrangements to get them back to you.
  11. Last weekend I did a greenbelt ride that involved a stop at Zilker Park to fill my bottle (and see if there was anything worth seeing at Barton Springs Pool). While I was checking out the scenery, a guy came up to me and said that someone told him there was a place close by to rent a mountain bike. My first thought was BSS, but he was under the impression that the other person meant that it was somewhere in or much closer to the park. Is there somewhere else that I don't know about? Do they rent bikes at the place where they rent out canoes?
  12. I'm doing my best to counteract everyone buying new bikes and parts. I've been upgrading my indoor training setup.
  13. Arg, I wish I payed attention to this thread last week. I rode through there yesterday and did a bit of rock climbing off my bike to cross where the bridge washed out.
  14. I have this fan mounted in my shop. Costs alot more than other suggestions, but it is industrial strength: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000T050A6/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&psc=1 Does not have remote control but I combined it with this to give me remote control capability: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B074CRGFPZ/ref=ox_sc_act_title_2?smid=A3MSS5ZN97PBY3&psc=1
  15. Anyone been to RHR lately? Just wondering how wet it is there. The 24 Hour race is coming up, and I will bail if it's as wet as it was there back in March when I did the Rattler. I want to limit riding in mud up to my axles to once per year.
  16. By the way, yes this is a serious question. I'm totally open to the fact that my limited experience may not represent carbon vs aluminum failures in general.
  17. Apologies that the way I asked that question was confusing to you. In other words, in my personal experience, I've had 2 aluminum failures and zero carbon failures. This makes me think, in general, that carbon is more reliable than aluminum. Are there studies or data out there that say that carbon is more likely to fail than aluminum? Are failure rates between carbon and aluminum different for handlebars?
  18. I've broken 2 different aluminum frames, which snapped pretty cleanly and suddenly. Have never broken a carbon frame, even though I ride alot harder now on my carbon frames than I did on those aluminum frames. That makes me feel more comfortable with carbon handlebars than aluminum. Is there something wrong with that conclusion?
