RedRider3141
I have far less experience than it sounds X has but I'm pretty happy so far. It helps that the frame wasn't in good shape to begin with.
RedRider3141
Next steps: Wife is helping with some vinyl logos and then clearcoat over.
TheX
The clear is the trickiest part. It likes to RUN. Go easy with it. It also makes the colored powder coat/paint run.
Bart
Does anybody know of a good place to get a motorcycle frame sandblasted?

4fun
Question for @TheXand @RedRider3141. I'm debating just using vinyl 3m decals vs painting a blue undercoat and masking off with vinyl decals to brand the frame. Does the clear coat go over vinyl decals without making them roll? TheX
I didn't have any problems with the vinyl under the clear. I did end up buying some bulk Lamin-X clear frame protector and put it over the decals also. It's really easy to cut and use.
RedRider3141
I'm still waiting for time/weather for doing the clear coat. But I plan on using "permanent" vinyl under the clear. 🤞
RedRider3141
Got the vinyl decals on and two clear coats. Planning on assembly next weekend (instructions says 7 days for full cure). I'm slightly regretting not doing anything with the wheels or fork other than cleaning them. But I can always change it later.

Would you be willing to loan me your 3D printed frame inserts for when I paint my son frame?

No rush, I’ve had the paint and clear coat carted since you started this thread and haven’t ordered yet. Figure I’ll order today just so I can start sometime this spring before the temps consistently get above 75 degrees.

No, I sprayed ~1/2 the can and let dry for 2 hours and finished off the can, per their website. With my lack of paint skills and steady wind I got semi-gloss on most of bike and matte on some. For my first go and a kids bike I'm happy with the result. I pulled off the BB and seat tube plugs last night and they worked great at protecting the inners. If I don't freeze in my garage this weekend I hope to remove the rest and assemble it with my daughter.
TheX
I am actually pleased beyond my expectations. I shoot a lot of normal paint, and way too much lacquer and this stuff is unlike anything I have ever shot. The clear is pretty normal, but the color is very easy to use. Messy as fuck, but easy. RedRider3141
Too impatient, pulled all of the plugs tonight, looks like they did their job.
Mattlikesbikes
Damn this stuff looks good. I just attempted to spray some silver Velocity 24" rims black and they look like crap. Gotta strip them and try again. Fortunately his frame looks good as is, but that early 2000's Fox fork is going to need a good paint job at some point soon...
