  1. https://www.kut.org/transportation/2022-02-14/construction-starts-today-on-mile-long-missing-link-in-violet-crown-trail?fbclid=IwAR3OSyqHGN08Gr7hgLF00yFVYUS87egMXhV1Y49zySOrdPP3sONgUwlK63A looks like they are finally connecting the Sunset Valley Home Depot through Indian Grass to MOPAC. I don't think we'll lose much interesting singletrack over this. the full "Valero Loop" will be interrupted for a while. They'll probably build a nice bridge at the crossing on Williamson Creek and some sort of smooth passage under MOPAC near the former Randall's on William Cannon. more wet-weather friendly trail!

  3. The trails have been routed to make for a continuous loop. As more are built, they will add to that loop. The only choice would be to add one mile by taking "Other Way" instead of Karaway, then pick Karaway back up off of Freeride Rd. This week Other Way will be blocked by a ribbon for the race, but if interested, just go under it. Personally, I'd just stay on Karaway and avoid riding a section of road. Folks riding during the week should listen/watch for gravel trucks at the 2 main road crossings, one on Karaway, and another where Karaway leads into Lemonade (sign across the road). On MTBProject, find the "Rocky Hill Ranch Loop" to use as a guide. It is listed as a Recommended Route. If you have the Texas area maps downloaded to the phone app you may need to update Texas Area to see the latest RHR trails. There are still intersections with the service roads and this app makes it easy to stay on the loop until we get some better signs up to lead riders around the place. Currently, the race route is marked with arrows and would be a good way to get a loop in. Then, just do it again till you have enough. 😁 Have fun Albert!

  4. VCT as it stands is the main trail along Barton Creek up to the "Spec's" entrance near Brodie. It offically picks up again at Convict Hill/ Brush Country-Latta, basically behind Costco and under MOPAC. It continues past Dick Nichols park, back under MOPAC and up to Davis. it wiggles through a neighborhood to the south and crosses Slaughter Lane. it technically ends at two bridges they built over Slaughter Creek near the Veloway. Of course there is singletrack after that. I think the plan is to make it wrap around the Veloway to the cul de sac at the end of La Crosse. from there, I guess it has to go through or around Wildflower Center land to the new paved trail at SH45/MOPAC.

  5. Last night, for the Super Bowl, we went all in for Chicago Italian beef sandwiches. Unfortunately you can't get the right bread here, but the beef was smuggled down here from our last road trip. <chef's kiss>

  6. The "cold" weather has reminded us how well fireplaces and red wine go together. Been on a bit of a bastardized red kick lately.

  7. All through Fall and Winter I've been drinking mostly just Amber / Red / Brown Ales. Got a bit burned out on IPAs and other strong stuff that brings a buzz quite quickly. Seems most of the beers I've been getting lately are in the 5-6% ABV range. Here's a couple of really tasty treats. If I want a buzz, I'll reach for my whiskey.

  8. Probably just me, but everything I've been sampling from Avery has been a bit meh.
