  1. Did it start raining on the first lap, or sometime after that?
  2. Wow, I hadn't seen your Strava ride or comments, had no idea you were attempting that ride. On the surface it doesn't seem horrible, but the heat can make a big difference for me when attempting an epic ride like that. I've wanted to do a full lap of LGT at night for some time now, but have yet to do so. I'm not sure this Friday is going to be an idea time to do this, though, given the current weather forecast: Friday night: Saturday morning: I am certainly interested in participating in a full lap at LGT, whether you do it this Friday or some other day. ..Al
  3. You're right, it happens on my iPhone as well, but not on my computer. Let me look into that.
  4. Yeah, I've been looking over there periodically. The bots are still registering at a frightening rate, and they are still posting. However, someone is cleaning them up every day, but there are still waves of spam visible in some of the forums..
  5. I'll look at this later today. Changing it is fairly easy. However, if I alter this behavior it will then differ from the thousands of other Invision forums out there that all behave the same way. This includes another forum I have been running on the same software for over a decade at this point, and I haven't had anyone complain (or it's been very rare) about accidentally marking forums as read. Although I'm sure it happens. As I stated above, I think it's a boneheaded move on their part. Especially as there is a "Mark forum as read" link once you open a forum up. I certainly do not want people accidentally marking forums as "Unread" and then not catching up on threads and interacting with them because at that point it becomes more of a hassle than it's worth. So let me dig into it a bit before I go ahead and make that change. Thanks for the feedback, ..Al
  6. Welcome to the forum @GreenMTBrider! Thanks for maintaining that Twitter feed. 🙂
  7. I wonder how it'll be in the morning. Would be nice to see more reports if anyone rides it tonight.
  8. I haven't been out there in a while, as I had a pretty poor experience on my last ride. The trails in the back portion of the park were in sad shape, various trees down and the trails were in poor condition. It thoroughly discouraged me from going back. My last Strava recording from RHR seems to be in August 2015, and I managed 19.5 miles. I thought I'd ridden it more recently (within the last year), but that may not be the case. Kind of curious how it looks now. This used to be one of my favorite trails. ..Al
  9. I should investigate doing that, or rather, find someone to do it for me.
  10. The humidity does certainly affect me, but so does riding in 100 degree heat in direct sunlight. I've decided that I'm more comfortable riding in the humidity and can ride longer in the cooler temperatures than riding in the middle of the day. I'm now riding either starting at (typically) 7:30am or at 6pm or later. And I tend to avoid trails that are completely out in the open in the summer, such as 1/4 Notch (although I did ride that a week ago at around 8pm). I have done several 20+ miles at Brushy Creek in the morning this summer, usually starting at 7:30 and ending around 10:30am. I am absolutely soaking wet when I'm done. 😄 As for Lake Georgetown, having done some trailwork out there in the last week in the morning for 3-4 hours each time, the humidity is absolutely savage when you're walking around with jeans, boots, and long-sleeve shirts. I'd still do a completely loop, though, as long as I started early enough (again, around 7:30am would be good). I'm not sure about a second lap. I may take Cody up on his upcoming two-lap ride call if he decides to do another pre-ride. ..Al
  11. That's pretty scary. I saw the video you posted in the Angelfire thread. So you've broken three carbon bars? Over the course of how many years? I'm impressed that you keep using them!
  12. From the first post, Time: Monday, 8am meet, 8:15 rollout. Place: Russel Park parking lot, Georgetown
  13. Given the sheer number of rocks (especially) and roots at LGT, it tends to get slippery pretty quickly once it starts raining. Given they are stating "Scattered" or "Isolated" thunderstorms for most of the day, it'll probably be luck of the draw as to whether it actually rains at Lake Georgetown.
  14. I don't need them, I usually have my hands on the hoods. I don't use the drops very often. But when you're coasting down a hill or you're not on demanding terrain, I sometimes have my hands on the horizontal portion of the bars. It would be nice to have the option of braking without having to move my hands.
  15. Kind of weird seeing brake levers like that on a drop bar. But that's definitely what I need. I remember brake levers on that portion of the drop bar being parallel with the bar itself and a bit longer. How difficult is it to add these after the fact? ..Al
  16. That may be true, before getting this bike a few years ago, I hadn't ridden drop bars since I was probably a teenager. I'd be a bit happier with it if I had brake levers I could use when my hands are on the flat part of the bar. Or I could stick a straight handlebar on it. 😄 ..Al
  17. I'd like to hear how that goes. Haven't gone out to Brushy on a CX, but may try it sometime. I'd probably ride most everything but Deception, as that would be grueling on a CX bike. I'd likely walk one or two sections of Gnargasm as well, as I don't really have any desire to fall off that cliff. 😄 But Picnic, Drop, Snow White, Caddyshack, Peddler's Pass, Mulligan, Picnic, Rim Job, and Snail would all be fair game. 😄
  18. I don't mind riding my mountain bike on the road, at least if I am using the road to connect various dirt trails together. I've done some pretty long rides on the mountain bike. Do wish I could lock out my shock, though. That will be a requirement for my next bike. I'm sure the road portions would be considerably faster on the CX bike, but that bike isn't as comfortable for me to ride as my mountain bike. Not because of the squishy suspension on the mountain bike, but don't like curved bars very much.
  19. You can do this on a mountain bike as well, but don't have to shoulder the mountain bike for the chunky stuff. 😉
  20. I have a Specialied Crux cross bike I rode once at Walnut Creek several years ago. Was fun, but you certainly are considerably more mindful of the lines you're riding. I think I even went up the stair step climb next to the (old) power line trail. It's a very light bike compared to my mountain bike, but with no suspension you feel everything. I should bring it out there again.
  21. Yes, I'm definitely going to do that. I started a similar forum on my other site recently, as there had been several "Share the love..." threads over the years, some rather long. It's easier to deal with in a forum where people can start and maintain their own topics. Much easier to see what's actually available, as opposed to foraging around a thread that could potentially be over 100 pages in time.. Thanks for the suggestion, and glad you're enjoying the forum! ..Al
  22. Good to know about the battery life. Yeah, I imagine it's going to be quite expensive for a while, plus by the second or third generation it'll probably be more reliable. What I really need is a new bike with more travel and a better fork and shock, so I'm going to focus on that first before pie-in-the-sky stuff like this. Still, interesting technology and I'd like to see how it develops over time. ..Al
  23. That sounds pretty interesting. I wonder how long the battery lasts and if you can swap out the battery on particularly long rides. I look forward to reviews of this once it hits the market.
  24. I had one pair of Specialized shoes with the BOA, and I remember it being more of a pain than it was worth. I'm back to wearing Specialized shoes with the three velcro straps and a ratchet for the top strap. They've been pretty reliable and I've never had them come loose. And they seem to stand up to abuse pretty well. That Salomon Quicklace system looks interesting, I just don't know how well laces will hold up when mountain biking. ..Al
  25. It sure was dry last night. All the creek crossings are dry as well.
