  1. Whoever has the Hammerschmidt. I'm secretly jealous of you. Well, now I am just jealous. I rode my friends 2x9 Hammerschmidt and was convinced that is what I wanted. It was partially due to my front mech being garbage at the time. Since going to 1x11/1x10 I can't justify it.
  2. I wish I was an industry insider, you guys are easy. Every few months just add another gear and new wheel size/axle spacing. My boss, er, I mean I thank you.
  3. I think that the electric shifters will do that. You just choose up or down and it goes to the next ratio by moving the front AND rear derailuer. Also, Semi-Trucks have GPS enabled power curves. Not sure about GPS based auto-shifting. but what you are saying for MTBs is definitely possible. Dumb, but possible.
  4. So, I am genuinely curious what the makeup of the drive-trains are in the group. If I missed an option, let me know and I'll update the poll if I can. Disclaimer: I am NOT some industry insider trying to get free marketing research.
  5. Not my picture. This is what gets me, they camouflage so freaking well. Can you spot the snake?
  6. That's where I've seen them too. The Snake group ID'd it as a "Diamondback Water Snake" NV
  7. BTW, for us "younger" hearts, especially those with a family history, this conversation is both fascinating and frightening. Keep it up.
  8. That is a Rat Snake. I feel like I can confidently ID 4-5 species but I submit a lot of the pictures I take to the "Southwest Texas Snake ID" FB group. Herp experts ID them for you. This is how I've been learning. Snakes give me the heebie jeebies but I like being outside too much to let them keep me inside. Education has been great. There are many species in our region but based on the sightings and IDs in that group seems like 90% of them are one of the following Non-Venomous Dekays Rat Snake Plain Bellied Water Snake Diamondback Water Snake Broadband Water Snake Venomous: Cotton Mouth/ Water Moccasin Copperhead Western Diamondback (Rattlesnake) (I look for mittens every time I ride Brushy.)
  9. In just under two years of Austin Riding, I've seen a snake 3x. 2 on Night/ Evening rides, 1 on a Dawn Patrol ride. All non-venomous. 2 were diamondback water snakes and the other was a plain bellied water snake. I've seen 3-4 others in my yard but only one of note (Ratnsake) most of the others were Texas blind snakes. How many times they seen me? No Idea.... Believe me I am looking.
  10. Thank you, that's generous. If/when I get serious (aka, when my current bike break) I'll gladly take you up on that!
  11. Also, my (former) Companies Moto: "When it doubt, make it stout, from materials you know about". Similar to Harley Davidson's: "If it breaks, make it bigger, if it sticks out, chrome it."
  12. Nope, don't know what I am missing but genuinely curious. No joke, my College Material Science teacher's story problems were always answered with "Steel is Real".
  13. Since my last steel bike was from Costco and probably cost $129. Educate me, why is steel preferable?
  14. Interesting bikes but it looks like frame build-up is the only option based on their US importer. Not really an issue but It would be nice to test ride before building.
  15. Curious do you have a Short List of options yet? I'm in a similar conundrum where I wonder what I will replace my aging FS/ entry HT with. Right now both work great, but dreaming about future toys is always fun. My early short list: Diamondback Sync'r (AL) Salsa Timberjack Kona Honzo Trek Stache (maybe)
  16. Bike Parts ✔️ Scuba Gear ✔️ This post reeks of aquarium loving wookies. ttps://austin.craigslist.org/bop/d/cedar-park-parts/6873915799.html
  17. That happened to me last night actually. I was on the uphill. I'm familiar with the rule but I was huffing and puffing so bad I was happy to stop. He said "No, no no, go ahead". I was mildly angry at missing an opportunity to rest but admitted he was doing it right and begrudgingly went on my way. On a side note, I said "just me" to everyone I passed last night (about 12?) and only 3-4 gave me a similar response as to how many were in their group and only 2 said something friendly like "enjoy the ride" etc. On dirt bikes 95% of riders on 2 way trails would hold up fingers showing number of people in your group. I guess old habits die hard.
  18. At the risk of more goat jokes, here are my initial results: I rode Mulligan and 1/4 notch last night and was amazed at the reduced # of pedal strikes. Sure I had a few, but I was peddling much more aggressively. Might have been 90% mental but I was able to clear a lot more of the uphill, notchy climb last night than I ever had before (riding E to W or Clockwise). I also felt that I was more able to get "back on the power" no matter where I was in my stroke. I'm surprised at how different 5mm felt. There I said it, are you happy? The only downside Is my longer, nearly new, XT cranks are now on my HT with an almost 2" lower BB. More testing is needed.
  19. They did push it out a bit already, there is a chance.
  20. No joke, I was huffing and puffing up 1/4 notch tonight and every time I took a pit-stop the air was dead still. The Breeze back at the parking lot was a nice cool down though. All in all worth it to get a ride in before this hits:
  21. 2 things: 1) I would have loved to peruse this mess before they cleaned it and take some stuff home. Did you see the stack of Fox Fork boxes?!?! 2) I thought the bike storage in between the doors was a great use of space considering how many bikes he has! (Direct Link) Full Video:
