  1. My wife and i had a discussion about this over drinks on sunday. Her opinion was similar to another on here as to just do away with mens/womens categories all together and let the best rise to the top. I don't think that's a very practical idea as females could be so far down in the pack they'd probably just give up. However, i might enjoy the bloodbath of seeing coed contact sports like the NFL, boxing and MMA. Who am I to stop anyone dumb enough to get on the field/in the ring with some of these athletes😵 I think a separate trans class for DH/XC would be perfect way to shut everyone up. Use a ladder for F2M racing same and M2F racing one another until finals. Fastest trans VS fastest trans regardless of what their chromosomes are. Fair is fair right? No such thing as gender advantage in sports?.....lets find out in the trans league.
  2. It seems most OEM shocks and forks are set up for people in the 160lb range so you two are in luck when it comes to that. There's quite a few people running the honzo at 150 but i never extended it more than 130mm. 3ft huck to flat with 120mm pike and the ramp control turned up:
  3. Yes, they can deflect/flex and side load the bushings causing quite a bit of stiction resulting in poor ride quality. I'm around 200# geared and ride like im falling down stairs, and the 120mm reba was dying under me. Switching to a pike made a big difference in ride quality and I felt more confident when going off drops etc. My 2c would be to franken fork something with a short offset CSU and add a 2* works headset when money allows. Until then, just do basic rockshox service kit on the reba. You can play with the oil weights on the damper side if you want to fiddle with it. Oh, and I have 2 daughters and they're thankfully old enough now that'll ill never have to see disneyland again.
  4. Looking at current model geo, seems like it's rated at 67.5* HTA with a 140mm fork. Gotta be close to 70-71 sagged out with a 100-120 fork. A little steep for my taste but to each his own. FWIW, that Reba is pretty flexy and you'd probably notice better results finding a good deal on a pike rct3 or fox equivalent.
  5. Maybe I missed it, but what frame are you building up?
  6. good question. I slackened it and added some travel to compensate for the steepened angle under sag. 65-66* with a short 40-42mm CSU has been working well for me lately
  7. Found this trail on MTB project and decided to check it out. Overall, it's your basic hill country flow (ish) trail that is a great place to just get some miles in or could be an awesome practice XC race loop. Lots of hardpack, a few stream crossings, surprisingly few rocks and a bit of horse sh*t thrown in for good measure. Check it out if you're in the area. https://www.mtbproject.com/trail/7035814/dripping-springs-ranch-trail http://drippingspringsmountainbiketeam.com/about/trail/
  8. Thats a pretty broad question that'll probably get a lot of different answers. I liked running a 120mm fork on my honzo with 29X 2.35s F&R for most everything here, but also ran it at 130mm with a 1* angleset if i was trying to bash it around a bit.
  9. You cant beat a full on rock N roll song about being a speed freak! The original one he did in hawkwind is good too. Wait a second, did you f@ck the judds?
  10. Ill see your foul territory and raise you with kyle dunnigan on the subject of cutting your c@ck off (warning naughty words and content)
  11. I'd be down with establishing trans classes in sports and let the marketplace sort it out.
  12. I want to make it clear that was not my assertion and hope we don't get lost in the weeds because of that perception. If my post came across as such, then i apologize. The fact are this: When racing as Anton Weatherly the results were average/below the rest of the pack. Racing as Kate Weatherly there have been podium finishes including a NZ DH 1st place finish https://www.rootsandrain.com/rider54373/anton-weatherly/results/ Also that same reluctance to get involved with a topic like this will probably influence sponsors who want to avoid the e-mess revolt from taking any stance on trans athletes. Yes I have been following this and the general consensus among sanctioning bodies and medical professionals is testosterone levels are not the only factor in biology and need more research before imposing new rules. Funny thing is all the anti-doping steps that are taken to level the playing field, yet we bury our heads in the sand when it comes to actual physical differences between men and women. Its an (adams) apple to oranges comparison Sorry....had to
  13. That's a bit anecdotal compared to professional sports.
  14. I'm not at all saying it's their motive, but it certainly doesn't put M2F at a disadvantage does it?
  15. Crankworx Rotorua saw the first transgender competitor take 2nd in the women's DH yesterday. They were 4.80 seconds off #1 spot, but considering the field had some fairly seasoned riders and "kate" has only been riding for a few years, it's pretty obvious there's an issue here. MMA has seen some of this surface with one transgender M2F fighter actually fractured a competitors skull during a fight. My 2c: No matter how politically correct everyone tries to be about this, it is a complete disservice to female athletes who have trained and competed for years only to have a man who couldn't cut it against other men switch genders, and start crushing female competitors. I have no issues with someone wanting to play pretend for the rest of their life, but as athletes their body is as they were born, and that includes bone structure, muscle mass, metabolism and reaction times, ETC. The interesting thing about transgender in MTB will be waiting to see what sponsors/coaches will dive into the sh*tstorm and pick one of these riders up. That alone will probably keep the pack pretty lean. https://www.pinkbike.com/news/results-downhill-crankworx-rotorua-2019.html https://interactives.stuff.co.nz/2018/03/a-level-playing-field/
  16. That sucks man. I had some bontrager dusters that were pretty squishy. On the other side of carbon spectrum are the super stiff wheels like i have that ride like crap no matter what you do. Grab a set of these hoops and call it done https://www.dtswiss.com/en/products/rims/mtb/enduro/ex-511/
  17. It looks like the lower link and base of the suspension where the cylinder is, are too close together and will create a lot of stress on bearings and materials. With that close proximity all that lateral flex gets transmitted into the next link, the shock. I would guess this is why they made the links that attach the swingarm to the shock thin so they would also flex with the swingarm rather than transmitting that sideload to the shock assembly. My 2c
  18. this is only from where the tester talks about the suspension.
  19. The driver of that expedition learned a valuable lesson in snap oversteer🤣
  20. You should watch the video of the rear flexing enough to bind up the shock. There's so many other (proven) options out there it's amazing somebody actually bankrolled that project for marin. On the e-bike tip, looks like another is being put to use for a good cause: https://www.pinkbike.com/news/ride-concepts-hires-paul-basagoitia-as-team-manager-and-rick-reed-as-brand-manager.html
  21. Also about as aesthetically pleasing as an E-bike with a trust fork. If only it came with a monkey that punched you in the face every time you looked at it. Dat rear suspension: https://www.bikeradar.com/us/mtb/gear/category/bikes/mountain-bikes/full-suspension/product/marin-wolf-ridge-9-review-51800/
  22. Meh, it's Houston. A city that sold it's soul to petrol is being flooded because of it.
  23. This right here is the bottom line^ MTBs, like roadbikes did a decade ago, are beginning to plateau when it comes to innovation. At this point, most all name brand, off the shelf MTBs are really good bikes, and would be perfectly suited for 99% of the riders on 99% of the trails. So that's the rub. Where do manufacturers go next to earn a buck? E-bikes IMHO, are the next step in innovation, marketing and sales. CEO of a large bike company said "If joe consumer goes into a shop with $5k and he/she has an option to buy a bike with a motor and one without, the motor will win". Do i want one? No. Will there be issues on local trails involving E-bikes? Yes Are they a practical option for people with disabilities/ETC to get outdoors? Yes The one thing I've learned in my 40+ years is as long as people are involved, sh@t will go wrong.
  24. X2 on the sram brakes. You can pick up M7000s cheap and they are more than enough for here https://www.merlincycles.com/shimano-slx-m7000-front-and-rear-disc-brake-set-95363.html
