  1. The biggest change with modern bikes is the speed you can ride these trails.
  2. IMHO, you'll get used to steep STA after a couple rides. Same with slack HTA. My bikes always feel super slack when I first build them, then after a few rides I can't even tell I'm riding around on a 63-64* HTA bike. Last thing you want is a slack STA with short chainstays. Especially if you're tall/have long legs.
  3. Sram wide ratio 8spd for the win. Love mine for CTX!
  4. Cool Their complete bikes can be a little pricey. Might be more advantageous to buy a frame and build it up. I really like that Canfield suspension platform. Something about it just works for all the crappy ledges and chunk here. @Chief has been so happy with his, he bought a revel gravel bike lol.
  5. For sho. Got to ride @Chief rascal and it pedaled as good as my old 27lb 100mm XC whip. I think Velorangutan has a few and maybe a demo. Totally worth checking out.
  6. Found some leftover goodness at Spec's Bastrop. Had the 2019 edition and never drank it. Looking forward to digging into this one.
  7. There's so many good bikes out now, it's hard to go wrong. Buy a 29er with 100-120mm and you're GTG. IMHO, HTA isn't nearly as important as STA and WB in central tx. My picks for bikes to ride here: Revel Ranger Kona Hei Hei Transition Spur
  8. Can attest to the quality of their brake pads. Never any reason to overpay for OEM shimano again.
  9. Orange seal seems to work well here so that's what I'm sticking with. Used muc off for a year or two and liked it but could do without their virtue signaling.
  10. Betty is back and badass as ever!!
  11. I my experience, the injector seems to clog with any sealant that's worth a damn. I just break the bead and pour it in. myself and my garage were sprayed with sealant for one too many times to ever touch that injector again.
  12. Yep, just pushed a hose over the metal line on the gun. Slides snugly over the valve stem . The large amount of airflow volume seats tires instantly.
  13. Ah, I've been using this air nozzle that I've had for 30+ years and piece of fuel line. Figured this white trash method has worked for over a decade, so why change it😁
  14. Is this for seating tires or just inflation?
  15. Watched this the other night. Wow this dude was pure hell. Great documentary even if you're not a hockey fan.
  16. Forgot about Knoxville and windrock too. Good suggestion. We rode some stuff in north Georgia when we were in Chattanooga. The whole experience was great.
  17. Just the right bike to ride when summer hits😎 Still miss mine..........
  18. Good choice. Beech mountain is definitely on our list of places to hit. Have you ever been to Chattanooga? We were blown away with the riding around there and how cool their downtown was.
  19. For us, line of sight is worth it. We figure we'll be able to cover expenses and fees by renting it out for the winter. Since we'll own it outright we just want to maintain it rather than focusing on it as an income property. There's some condos being built around the entrance to mont saint Anne that were going to check out. It'd be nice to have something new/newish. Have have a lot laws, policies and taxes to review once there.
  20. Good advice We've only been in our place for 4 years so we'll be under the $500k cap. For good or bad. We definitely have our concerns about maintaining a second property, particularly out of the country. We've owned a couple rentals and it was a PITA. We have a trip planned to Quebec next month to meet with our realtor, and also start discussing property management. It's most likely going to be worth it to pay the management fees so they can handle renting it out for ski season. The idea of leaving a 75-100 y/o home unattended during the Canadian winter would definitely keep us up at night. As far as heat goes, we're planning on having our primary home in southern AZ. Basically 15 miles from Mexican border. Failing that we'll wait for the market to dip and look at some places around Flagstaff. Never thought I'd be considering AZ but it has grown on me. Well, except phoenix. Fuck that city.
  21. Thanks We had planned to move to Victoria on Vancouver island this summer on a permanent basis but after meeting with a Canadian emigration attorney, we decided it wasn't worth it. The points system they use had us at a disadvantage due to our age (40s). Wife would've had to return to uni for a phd in order for us to be fast tracked. She wanted nothing to do with that. We both love Quebec and MSA, but had no interest in living there during the winters. Luckily we can buy a nice small home for under $175k USD and live there six months out of the year before we have to leave. Property taxes are low and the only time we'll get pinched a bit is when we sell. We'll still be based out of the USA so not much issue with taxes. If we were moving abroad we'd seriously look at Ecuador. If we could swing it, Spain but neither of those are in the cards since we still have to work. If we cant sell our house here, then I'll probably just sell my park bike and buy another gravel bike. I enjoy hitting the stuff around south Austin. I lived in Buda and would rally my cross bike through the town in the early AM and then the gravel paths on the city parks. There's so much to be said for airflow on an X bike vs being down in a ditch doing 3mph on a MTB. Blarf.
  22. Haven't been but looks like fun. Lot's of trail options so you'll be good no matter what you are looking for. https://www.winterparkresort.com/things-to-do/activities#filters=seasons:Summer https://www.trailforks.com/region/winter-park/
  23. Pretty much this∆ I was listening to a researcher say that by 2050, the climate/landscape in Austin will more resemble San Angelo and the desert will have crept further into the western hill country. I think that's certainly a possibility with lack of rain we've been seeing, and the massive influx of people moving to TX. By that logic, the PNW might be a good choice as it'll be more like the SF bay area by then. I will say that living with snow in the Rockies is completely different than the Midwest or northeast. Fuck those winters. Either way, moving by large fresh water sources is a pretty safe bet.
  24. The golfers in my neighborhood are some hard drinkers. I've never seen people in the 70s & 80s booze it up like they do. This local Belgian-ish beer is not too bad
  25. A year later and it seems Sunrise is starting to get some love😎
