  1. wait, can those thing go up or down Mt. Bonnell? I've ridden my bike up that hill both ways, and that slope is no joke.
  2. I've always wanted to attend a bike trade show. Interbike sounds fun but there are so many others that I can do without it.
  3. Of course, we all know that. So we will have, what, four or five good years between the scooter scourge and the robot uprising?
  4. Maybe we should think long-term and put scooters on that list. Think about it: more scooters = more stupid people injuring themselves and shortening their opportunities to reproduce. When they get out of the hospital, they realize, "that was dumb I, am going to buy a bicycle instead!" seriously though, I think the scooter thing will blow over in a year or less. they will stick around, but the novelty will wear off and there will be fewer bozos running into stationary objects. people will start using helmets, riding conscientiously, and using them less for joy-riding and more for getting places they really need to be. In the meantime, more people will become aware of the lack non-vehicular infrastructure and demand more bike (and scooter) lanes, accountability for inattentive drivers, etc. I have a very bleak outlook on our species and even I think that's possible.
  5. That might be it. Where was that? My knowledge of Austin geography in 2003 is useless now. Liberty Hill? I think I recall driving for a while to get there.
  6. Anyone remember the name of an indoor skatepark in Austin 10-15 years ago? I recall visiting on in the summer of 03 but can't remember where it was. I'd certainly session an indoor bike park when it's 104 out. I still think that some rideable terrain under a highway overpass would be fun of it stays somewhat dry. I can think of a few spots...
  7. What we need is an empty building or a space under a highway so we can build something like this. I don't think Austin is punk enough to follow through.
  8. Brand-X Ascend II dropper. Externally actuated-, so you don't have to have "stealth" routing on your frame. 400mm long, 125 mm travel, 31.6 mm diameter. $115 I bought it this summer, used it 4-5 times and meh, no dropper magic for me. It's good as new.
  9. Pick your fave. Or pontificate on why you have six bicycles below. What is the specific purpose of each bike? Support your claims with peer-reviewed data.
  10. Curious just because it's interesting, but also because my bike could take 29+ tire. It would be a very expressive experiment though. Maybe I need to borrow some wheels like that and take em for a spin sometime. (142/100 axles, in case anyone has such a thing around.)
  11. Curious as to what current trends are amount Austin riders. I know there are horses for courses and all, but what's the most useful, practical, fun setup you've tried? Do you see a trend swinging one way or another?
  12. Just be sure to keep the original paint. Seriously though, I would stick with wood.
  13. I park two cars in my garage. How novel! That leave little room for tools and bike stuff. All that might have to move indoors because I am not leaving my car out for the vandals and theives.
  14. Shimano chain + KMC link = win/win. I never liked the way SRAM chains shifted, especially on Shimano drivetrains. I think Performance had a KMC 10 speed chain but it was 3x the cost of the Shimano chain I would have purchased if they had it.
  15. Jerks have been joyriding these things all over the places they should not be with virtually no enforcement for months. Now at least they are going to monitor it.
  16. Stopped in the other day and they had some great deals on bikes. I don't want any of those bikes. I just need a new 10-speed Shimano chain, which they did not have.
  17. I want one after Colin Furze modifies it.
  18. I have an Osprey 10 as well, had it for at least six years. zero complaints. when I worked at REI, I was always impressed with how light and comfy Osprey backpacking equipment is. we sold a lot of their backpacks after fitting and loading one up with beanbags to simulate gear weight.
  19. coming soon: assholes skidding corners all over Walnut:
  20. all this rain we've had really bummed me out. finally got a proper ride yesterday and after less than 90 minutes at Walnut OMG EVERYTHING HURTS! my back is pretty messed up, my ankle doesn't want to move, and my right hip makes me flop around like a drunk when I rise from a chair. good thing I am seeing the chiro this week, I have a few things to discuss. moral: if you don't ride for an extended amount of time, do SOMETHING. getting over a bout of laziness is not fun at all.
  21. I stopped by the north side Performance Bike the other day and they have quite a few good deals for Black Friday/ closeouts that are worth checking out. They are closing that store permanently as well. I was impressed with some of Marin's offerings.
  22. I might hit up Performance before they close their doors. Looking for medium shorts without pubes in them.
