  1. Somethiung for everyone... https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCLvbgQXt0vIUoEYftYsz3Iw
  2. And this speaks to my earlier comment... Here it is again... "Thing is, some riders will not see it as being any wider than what they find on other trails... Walnut Creek for instance. How do you get riders to know the difference between acceptable wide trails and unacceptable wide trails. So what's the correct trail width..." As I said in another thread... Proverbs 29:18... "Where there is no vision, people cast of restraint. Now some folk may not be big on scripture... But the above is absolutely applicable to normal human living. When people do not have clarity of purpose... People tend do whatever they want. What is mountain biking in Austin? We know what mountain biking in Bentonville is... A source of local recreation, and economical development. That's a clear vision. And as such, the mountain biking community gets local support. And sure... You might say that it's all about the Walmart dollars and influence. But Bentonville is not the only place that has tried to identify and institute a definite vision regarding mountain biking. The means by which Bentonville has gone about accomplishing what they have accomplished may not be how Austin goes about it (Hot Springs doesn't have Walmart backing but is trying to do something definite). But one of the keys to sucess is having a definite vision regarding what is trying to be accomplished, then getting all interested parties on board with it. And how you treat your local trails will be one of the matters that will fall under the influence of this vision. If anyone thinks that the Freeride512 organization doesn't have a definite vision regarding what they are doing, and have all related people on board with it... You're mistaken. I'm pretty sure the leadership knows exactly what it's about, and works according to it.
  3. And then you have riders doing this kind of stuff... And everyone giving them "WOOHOO" and high fives... But they weren't sticking to "...the trail..."...

  5. Yep... Just spoken with someone at Shimano... That's exactly what they said. Thanks, mack_turtle. BTW, what are you looking for?
  6. Need a crankset and just realized that you've got to be careful when used on an older frame. The Shimano XT M8000 comes in different chainline configurations... Does anyone know what the "B" at the en of the "M8000", as in "M8000B" means? I guess it's "B" for Boost... But on the Shimano website I only see M8000B1 and M8000B2... But no "M8000B". Is the "B" designation without the "1" or "2" just an older designation, or a different chainline? Thanks for the help?
  7. Have I seen these French inventor fellas before... With some other product? https://www.magped.com/?lang=en
  8. Hot ride... http://www.stickybottle.com/latest-news/electric-bike-fire-adelaide/ https://www.forbes.com/sites/carltonreid/2019/01/14/electric-road-bike-explodes-on-adelaide-hill-climb-causing-bushfire/#66b5e1bd91f3
  9. Damn... If you can use older style crank/bb set up let me know, I've got both 170 and 175.
  10. Here some photos of the extension I did with my T2 rack arm so that it could fit a 29er wheel...If you look at the hook arm you'll see where the extension was made. Thule extends the lower arm, and that's the piece you need to buy so that your old rack can take 29er wheels. But there's no reason why the extension can't be on the hook arm, especially the way it was done by Bamwa, where he cut and inserted a piece of round that extended down into the two original pieces, which actually made the whole thing stronger.
  11. This is an authentic Dallas Cowboys Prescott Jersey, men's large, preowned but in excellent condition... Austin Mountain Biking member price... $25.
  12. Noticed your ride started just down the road from me.
  13. Thanks... Haven't been further west than Escarpment yet. Good to have this info. Appreciate it.
  14. I solved that problem with my old rack... I had an idea and Bamwa executed it perfectly. Check with him to see if he has the time to do it for you. Cut the arm of the hook section, inserted round tube to the necessary length for extension needed, welded tight... Works like a charm on 29" bikes. Thule has tried to be profit smart by adding length to the main arm... But that means more expense for the buyer.
  15. Thanks... But what sections are Drip Drop and Drop?
  16. Wide tire fit problem... etrailer has you covered... https://www.etrailer.com/Accessories-and-Parts/Thule/TH919.html
  17. Here's one comment regarding the extreme that can happen... "...Unsanctioned trail building in my town led to the IMBA chapter folding about 8 years ago and nearly killed mountain biking altogether in city parks. It fragmented our community and lines that were drawn back then are still in effect today, with deep suspicion between parks friends groups, mountain bikers and other trail user groups. A lot of damage has been undone, but creating a unified voice for advocacy has pretty much been impossible. To top it off, the squad that nearly got the kibosh put on mtbs, are still building their poorly constructed and unsustainable fall line trails in the park, putting legitimate trail building by builders from the MTB community in constant jeopardy..."
  18. I suffer from leg cramps in the evening after putting in a few hours of some kind of strenuous sporting activity. Been that way for some years now. When I remember, bananas help, along with apple cider vinigar, and good old pickle juice. But I was in Central Market one evening looking for something called Calm, which is a power product that comes in packets. I was told it was good for preventing cramps. While there I asked one of the people in that section about Calm and long story short I was recommended a magnesium liquid so I thought I'd give it a shot. It seemed to have been working as cramps were less frequent and for shorter periods... But last night I got a cramp at around 4:30am and hobbled over to the kitchen, poured some juice in a glass and put three dropper measures of the magnesium liquid in the juice (the recommended dosage is four a day, but I hadn't had any for the day). I went back to bed but within maybe five minutes felt my heart rate start to drop and my breathing became very shallow. Kind of scary. Anyway, I got up and walked around a bit for about an hour, taking deep breaths and just trying to remain calm (yeh, the irony, I know). I started to feel normal, relaxed a bit, and then went back to bed. My wife was speaking to her brother today and mentioned it to him (he's a respiratory therapist) and he told her that you need to be extremely careful with magnesium as it can dramatically slow your heart down — even to the point of bringing you into serious medical problems. He said that although magnesium supplement can be used for cramping, it has to be in small quantities. And perhaps better than magnesium is potassium.
  19. Known about Time Attacks since back in the 90s, but got SPDs from my shop sponsor so just stuck with them over the years. Also, after a break of a few years, when I got back riding in 2008 I came across the Shimano DX (647) SPD platform pedal, gave it a try and really liked it. That's what I've been using. Didn't know that Time had something similar. Always heard that Time had better/quicker release that SPDs, just didn't think I needed more. Of late though I've found that one pedal is sticking a bit. Need to check and see why. Maybe Time for a new pair.
  20. If nothing else... Ya gotta love the rider coming out of the tree limbs (note there seems to be a trailhead right next to where he came out)... https://www.retyre.no https://bikerumor.com/2018/06/05/retyre-zips-new-tread-even-winter-spikes-over-your-tires-in-seconds/
  21. When my wife started riding again last year she didn't have SPDs on her bike so she had to use some squash shoes she has as flats. They have a softer gum sole (not as soft as proper riding flats), but would probably be less stiff than 510s or similar. Thirty minutes into riding she asked me for two things... Her other pedals and that special gear thing I had bought her... Meaning SPDs and an oval chainring. Thing is, when she was learning to ride many years ago she cussed up a storm because of constantly not being able to unclip quickly and falling. Yet, after a maybe three year break, back on the bike she immediately wanted to be clipped in.
  22. Think we'll see any of this on Spider Mountain...
