  1. I don't really mind the traffic on 360, particularly on a Saturday morning or on my lunch rides. Back when I lived near WC my regular was to get on Parmer and west till it ended. That would make for another decent route, though Parmer has gotten really busy. On a weekend I think the dam loop is pretty good and safe enough. But gets far from the house. That said, I am only thinking about close to home on something like a 100mi shake down ride or something. On my new short list is ride to BC/SN (14), do a full pull (20+), then ride home (14)
  2. As I get back into training for future 24hr races, I am thinking about good 100+ mile rides. I'm off of 360, so was thinking doing laps on the full length of 360 would make a lot of sense, my house at 2222 would make for easy pit stops. Throw in some trails and gravel access roads on the rock cuts. 100 miles and never more than 15 miles from home. 28mi laps and 1800' of climbing per lap.
  3. Fat cyclist used to do a diy charity ride, The Race to Nowhere. It was intended to be a 100mile ride, not on a trainer, in the smallest footprint you could manage. That feels very covid appropriate. My route, never actually done, was my cul-de-sac, 400 laps.
  4. I'd love it. My SS frame is too tight for a top load. Was about to start looking for a side load. Can grab those grips too. What beer can I bring you?
  5. Just installed and playing around on the asphalt, the whole pedal stroke feels smoother for sure. And no noticable change in tension. eBay chinesium. $18. 104bcd 32t
  6. I'll take them. I've got a set on my backup bike that are falling parts so I can harvest clamps from those.
  7. Looking for some low mile Ergon GS1 grips. These are the light ones with the sharper edges.
  8. Not actually homeless, those are folks petitioning against Prop B.
  9. Preaching to the choir, but the argument that they have delayed police/fire response justifies no COA tax is some strong BS. A wall wouldn't be enough. They enjoy LOTS AND LOTS of other COA funded stuff, which likely is way more of their tax dollars than police/fire. If they don't want to pay COA taxes, perhaps some kind of toll tag that logs and charges them for all the miles on COA roads. Or a parks pass that nails them for every time they use a park, or take their boat on a Lake Austin.
  10. Some of the threads on the topic from the UK go into a good detail on the density of foam they were finding. Having some trouble finding that information here from US vendors. But yeah starting to look for 1.5 to 2 in rod.
  11. So, I am really happy with my Rimpact, but then I look at the fleet of bikes in my garage and how I would love to convert more of them. But dang it gets pricey. So I am looking at doing one of the Ghetto options - 1.5" Closed Cell Backer Rod. Available around $30 for 50ft. I'd likely run it in bikes that are not trying to run low pressure and not heavy riders (wife and kid bikes). But who would benefit from lower risk of flatting and ride home on foam vs tube swap. Anyone spend much time looking at the ghetto option? I've read a handful of forums and videos.
  12. I've not had a formal hearing with TCAD, only informal and formal with HCAD when I lived in Houston. We have an apartment that my SIL lives in. It's EXACTLY the same as the unit next door. The TCAD value on the place next door is 8k lower. So I petitioned our price and proposed the same as the neighbor. I got a settlement offer for $0 lower than current. How is the temperament of the TCAD formal review panel? Just roll in with photos of the two units and the TCAD value page for both units? Any advice?
  13. This. With any bolt on chainrings it is often pretty hard to get them mounted perfectly center. I regularly see a little chain rise/fall even on round rings. There also has to be the just right amount of elipse/flattening of the circle in order to maintain generally the same tension. Low dollar rings probably do not take a lot of time to look at how much of an oval they are making, but that would have a significant amount of impact on how well the chain is tensioned.
  14. Alright, dust this thread off. Looking to try oval on my SS. I was geared 32/24 and could climb everything. Just regeared to 30/21 and love it. Looking though at maybe sticking with the 21 but throwing a 32t oval on. It's a 104bcd XT crank, so the 30t options look less awesome. The Absolute black stuff looks great, but is there any reason not to go cheap for a trial?
  15. I'm about to service my rock shox damper which everything indicates is user serviceable with some syringes and fittings. What fox really needs to do is get with the program and go back to having user serviceable things. I think we're all hoping that the explosion in bike popularity keeps up but with it comes heightened demand for service at shops and at manufacturers so why not try to lessen some of that by letting advanced user service their own stuff more easily.
  16. Hell yes, HS22s, So awesome. I had HS33's for the longest time. If Fabio doesnt take them I am sure I can find a bike to put them on. If Fabian does take them, remember to pair them with a brake booster to get the most out of your braking experience.
  17. I'm actually leaning towards buying a new L&M Vis Adventure. 800lm, smaller than the old Stella light heads (50g) and $70. This is the version without a permanent battery. Works with the standard L&M packs. They say it gets an hour at 800lm for each cell in the battery pack. So I've got 3, 6, &8 cell batteries. Run the vis on the helmet and the Seca on the bar. I'd love not having a cable hanging off the helmet, but if I go back to 12/24 hr races I need swappable batteries.
  18. I've struggled with my tires seating straight with my rimpacts. Perfectly true wheel and brand new tires front and rear, both with wobble. Doesn't rub anything so sending it.
  19. Yep, on my list as well. I was thinking about doing it as a cubby/closet, incorporating a couple sheets of plywood , but now I can't afford plywood.
  20. For sure. Battery pack work is super straight forward, but it takes the gear (spot welder, and supplies) and if you are doing anything other than rebuilds, lots of experience with pack design. If this guy does good work, I'll let folks know. I'm already looking around the garage at all the battery junk that I could have rebuilt instead of throwing away (looking at you NiteRider HID setup).
  21. I found a local battery rebuilder who is going to rebuild some of my Kobalt lawn equipment batteries. He quoted me $140 to rebuild the 36v 14ah pack on the ebike. While I am not sure if the bike is powerful enough, if all I sink into it is $140, I am sure I can resell it working for more than that.
  22. Pulled out of the parts bin. Clean it up and send it. Disc or rim!!! 7" of tube 435 AC 26" if you wanna run the rim brakes. but will fit a 29" on disc. Will trade for beer.
  23. In good shape cosmetically. Works just fine, though probably due for service. 7.875x2.0
  24. I was looking at the L&M urban 1000 for just such a setup. But $26 sounds better
