mack_turtle
I've noticed a few spots and local trails that are low and get muddy. When and how should I protect a low muddy spot by dredging up rocks out of the nearby Creek bed to armor it? Is anyone going to be pissed if I start doing this on my own? Does this count as cross-fitting?
Ridenfool
This site might offer some useful info. https://www.imbacanada.com/resources/trail-building/designing-and-building-sustainable-trails
cxagent
Great link RF! I didn't know the info was so readily available. Mack - my experience is that no matter what you do, SOMEBODY will complain. But most people will understand and may even approve if you have armored the trail to correct a low/muddy spot. I suggest using the largest rock you can. They tend to stay in place with traffic and water flow. Make sure you anchor the rocks well. Teamsloan
Get approval from the trail steward first though.
