jcarneytx
Well, excepting the no helmet and wearing jeans, I suppose.

RidingAgain
Simple old bicycles... Simple fire roads... And lots of huge smiles and fun. Sounds like, at its heart, what mountaining bike should be. Edited December 21, 2018 by RidingAgain
RidingAgain
"...It probably started... riding bicycles a hundred years ago when they had nothing but dirt roads to ride on..." In a sense... Mountain biking may just be older than road riding.
Anita Handle
It's certainly older than cars! 20 minutes ago, RidingAgain said: "...It probably started... riding bicycles a hundred years ago when they had nothing but dirt roads to ride on..." Anita Handle
Another notable thing that I'd read about and that you can see in the video is that those original mountain bikes started off with super wide rims and then we mucked it all up for weight weenie purposes in the 80s, 90s and aughts. The bikes in the video have FAT rims.
Chongo Loco
Heard Gary Fisher give a history lesson at BSS a few years back at a party/book tour for the 25 anniversary of the Rock Hopper.Notice 2 things he said were key to those old klunkers. 1) They looked for pre-WWII Schwinn Excelsiors because the post war models had lower bottom brackets. 2) Look at the big ass brake levers. They were usually Magura motorcycle levers because the leverage ratio needed to be so much better on the cheesy canti rim brakes they had to back then! RedRider3141
Fun video! I never understood why MTB bars used to be so narrow. After growing up on 70s, 80s, 90s and 00s dirtbikes (trail bikes and dualsports) all of the factory bars were wide.
