Cant comment on the stache, but i hear its good. The honzo is a killer rig and with a little tweaking it can do just about whatever you want. I had the aluminum frame and it rode fine for my 40+ y/o body, just make sure you get a good saddle.
I'd recommend finding a leftover 2018 big honzo 27+ because you can run either plus wheels or a 29x2.6 combo . Frame geo is almost the same between the 29 & plus frames.
(2019s have longer chainstays)

I ran schwalbe super swans tubeless on stans flow ex wheels on my old kona private jake. That bike saw multiple laps on MTB trails including the brushy creek stuff without issues.

This where we're at as well. Worked in auto industry for the last 28 years and i am done with internal combustion engines and the mess required to keep them going. We just bought a hybrid for the wife and will hang onto that until a plugin worth driving drops below $40k.
There's a ton of money being dumped into electric truck research & design right now so we're not far away from seeing something available to consumers.
X2 on buying used and also looking at new bikes on closeout. Places like jenson, steep & cheap (backcountry) and cambriabike all buy leftover stock from manufacturers at highly discounted prices. I was this >< close to buying a leftover bike from cambria for 60% off but changed my mind and went another direction.
Other than preventing people from just reaching in and grabbing whatever, they aren't theft proof. If thieves want in they'll just break glass and help themselves like any other vehicle break in. You can add cable locks to bed to ease your mind and bit, and let the insurance company deal with the rest.
The nice thing about the topper is being able to finish a ride, and slide the bike in and lock it. No concern of rain, snow, salt, vandalism or backing into sh*t with the carrier. Another bonus is not having to drag dirty bikes into a hotel at 2am or having to shoehorn a filthy bike into your SUV. On short trips ill use my carrier, but overnight trips will be using the topper.
It looks like it'd be a good place for a break from the monotony of riding the same trails over and over. I'm gonna take the wife out there before it gets balls hot next month or so.
Agree the website blows dog. Most of my exposure to bandera has been from other riders on YT and Instagram.
Keep up the good work Seth
We ran into this with our insurance when the movers stole some jewelry. Luckily USAA has always been easy to work with and actually waived our deductible in that situation.,
