  1. Zombie thread resurrection. Just read this article and found it very interesting. I figured posting it here would be better than starting a new thread. https://www.pinkbike.com/news/interview-chris-leatt-on-mtb-injury-research-and-protective-gear.html
  2. My understanding is that the vaccine prevents severe illness and hospitalization it does not prevent the illness itself. I will be getting my shots as soon as I can hopefully at the 90 day timeline after having had COVID that my doctor recommended. From what I've heard even though you have been fully immunized you can still get, carry and spread the virus. It's basically a higher transmissible version of the flu. My doctor recommended that I get only one shot because he said having had the virus is your first dose and that the first shot for me would be my second dose and boost my immunity significantly and that the second dose doesn't really do anything more. Like it's been mentioned an MTB forum may not be the best place to get information.
  3. She's gonna have so much fun pedaling that around Brushy Creek🤣
  4. Any fasteners that I think could be a problem down the road to remove get anti seize. Pedals for sure.
  5. Some of it may be COVID buyers remorse. Now that people are getting vaccinated I think we'll start seeing all the gym rats who bought bikes during COVID trying to recoup their money.
  6. Glad I built my current bike when I did.
  7. Voler makes excellent riding wear. I have a drawer full of the stuff. My wife just got me these. https://www.bn3th.com/products/north-shore-bike-chamois-black They seem to be made really well. I haven't had a chance to try them yet on the bike yet but did try them on and they're pretty comfortable just wearing. The problem I find with riding shorts is the crushing of your junk.
  8. I'll be getting mine when I get to the 90 day mark after having covid. My doctor has said that he's seen more uncomfortable side effects from the Moderna than from the Pfizer. He also said I only need one dose due to already having covid. Covid in effect being my first dose. This is a bit concerning though considering the Johnson and Johnson was developed using the same technology. https://www.cnbc.com/2021/03/15/covid-ireland-netherlands-suspend-astrazeneca-vaccine-amid-blood-clot-fears.html
  9. Or at least whoever owns the apartment building. Oh wait I forgot those are usually billion dollar corporations and are exempt from any taxes.
  10. My biggest gripe with many school systems not just in Texas is the focus on standardized testing. Schools are trying to get as much federal money as they can so they seem to focus on standardized testing more so than actual learning and critical thinking. This hurts everyone in the long run because our kids go through school and come out with a sub par education. Especially kids in lower socioeconomic groups. Federal funding should just be a given and our education system should be the same anywhere you go in the country. When we moved here from NY my kids were about two years ahead of what was being taught in the schools here. When we moved here I specifically looked at the best school systems to put my kids in, we shouldn't need to do that as a nation it's ridiculous. We can't excel as a so called "great country" without giving our kids the best education they can get and we can't do that if we leave it up to state and local governments who are always scrambling to get federal funding so that once again the people at the top can continually increase their wealth. How did we get to a point in the school system where teachers are using personal money to provide supplies that the kids need? This is a failing state. Rant over.
  11. I had a state income tax in NY. It wasn't really that much compared to my property taxes. I think it was around $1500 a year. My last house there was 1400 sq ft on a 40'x100' lot. in 2004 my property taxes were $5600. Not much of a bargain considering how poorly kept the roads were. Potholes as big as your tires.
  12. if you're into making these yourself this guy has a great recipe. I made these about two months ago and they're fantastic. My wife and daughter loved them too. They're pretty easy but take about three hours to cook.
  13. If I had been able to see ahead when I lived on Long Island I would have strapped myself and went for a $250K house when I bought my last. Houses that were selling for $250 in '99 when I bought my last house were selling for $750 in '04. The thing about buying in a sellers market is that you have to be willing to stay in that house for at least ten years to recoup your money. All of these bubbles are typically on a ten year cycle give or take.
  14. I don't know about Burnett, but Liberty Hill is getting ridiculous as far as house pricing. A couple of years ago we had discussed selling and downsizing, but after we sell what do we buy? I looked into Liberty Hill and everything I looked at put me back into a fairly large mortgage payment for a smaller house. The problem with the current market is that you can make a bunch on your current house but can't replace it for what you make from it.
  15. Welcome to Long Island, circa 2004. I bought my last house on Long Island for $125k in 1999 sold it in 2004 for $300k. After 9/11 nobody wanted to live in the city so they started buying houses in the suburbs. Drove housing prices through the roof. I suspect that some of that is happening here due to the pandemic. Good luck just be mindful that you're trying to buy in a sellers market. Meaning the house you buy my devalue once all the dust settles.
  16. if you can squeeze another $600-700 into your budget this would be a good option. https://www.theproscloset.com/products/kona-big-honzo-st-mountain-bike-2019-x-large
  17. So weird it's almost delirious...
  18. Loose clothing is a better choice to help prevent snake bites. If a snake strikes at loose clothing like your jeans pant leg the fangs most times will get hung up in the fabric. With tight clothing it's much easier for a snake bite to penetrate.
  19. We are coming up on Irish appropriation month🤣
  20. Fuck him! and anyone associated with him!
  21. More nonsense here. Nothing like politicizing everything. https://denver.cbslocal.com/2021/02/17/lauren-boebert-green-new-deal-culprit-texas-power-crisis/
