  1. dont use training wheels. Take the pedals off and slam the seat. Have him coast down slight inclines until he has his balance (probably 1 day at his age). Put the pedals back on and have him start coasting, then pedaling. My 4yo learned over 4 days last month. All 3 of my kids have used this method.
  2. So one great thing about the quarantine is my 4 yo learned to ride a balance bike and a pedal bike in the span of 4 days. The older two are more cautious and I have to constantly push them out of their comfort zone. The 4 yo though is a kamikaze and I have to tell her to slow down, be more careful etc. Still it has been fun to be home to watch the progression. Im amazed every day how they are pre-programmed differently out of the box. My 7 yo has started to ride trails and we have been riding in the mornings before online school starts. It has been great. We have done point 6/outer log, peddlers, and ankle biter/los pescadores (?). What other trails are good for kids? I was thinking SATN but Im not sure where to put in. I know bull creek isnt too bad, but there is hardly any mileage on the flat part. Im bummed because my parents are moving this weekend from lisi anne drive where there is great access to trails to leander where there is none.
  3. the park cable cutter has a crimper
  4. you should post a comment. You should also post the user here so we can all comment. Public shaming is the only recourse we have.
  5. Ill take the crank. Have an xt 1x11 on my trainer which is a little overkill. PM me your address thanks!
  6. use my macbook pro to run zwift on my trainer. It sits on a music stand, knocked it off and the screen broke. I hate the new macbook pros with the touchbar and no ports, so i bought another 2015 with all the ports. Mac backup is awesome, I just did a restore from backup (usb drive) and i was up and running immediately. weirdly I let the old macbook sit in the audio cabinet with the amplifier on. it got really hot and the monitor started working again. After a few days it stopped working.
  7. I pretty much always build up my bikes. Cant stand to pay 6-7K for a bike (or 4K for lower spec parts). Im currently working on an I9 wheelset w/chinese carbon hoops. Have a 1x11 drivetrain ready to go and internal dropper post. I ended up buying a used lyrik for $350. Also going to put a works 1 degree angleset on. People say that is close to the geo of the V2. I definitely want total confidence climbing and am willing to give up plushness on the downs. The ripmo is supposed to be a better climber than the evil. Went to rent a ripley from cycle progression, but they were all rented out, then saw the deal on the V1 ripmo so pulled the trigger.
  8. someone spray painted leash dogs on the concrete trail as well With the concrete path both sides are much more accessible. The whole park should be leash free now.
  9. I ended up getting the ripmo. Cycle progression didnt have any rentals so Im just going to wing it.
  10. backcountry apparently has the v1 ripmo for 2200, a little less downhill than the V2
  11. call more companies precision is good service wizards is also good
  12. I sold my tallboy LTc so now im looking for a new bike. I mainly ride my turner czar and the 100mm bottoms out a lot. I feel like 120mm is perfect, but might be too close to the czar. I love dw-link as i hate pedal bob when climbing. I dont enjoy downhills as much as I enjoy a tough climb. The tallboy was great as I was bombing sketchy greenbelt downhills right away. I rarely bottomed out the 135mm, but I also dont do large drops. It was also at 28 pounds even with a 2x in front. I was prepping to take the front derailleur off which would have made it 27. I think Im sticking to dw inspired suspensions as whenever someone says such and such a platform is great (eg fsr, vpp, vpp2) they always have too much pedal bob for me. Giant maestro (copied dw-link) is also good. I mainly ride four corners, cat (but not the big drops), and sometimes brushy. Im going to rent the ripley first, then the ripmo. I think the evil is prob out as Ive read the suspension isnt as firm as the ripley/ripmo. I have ridden pivots before and for some reason I always feel like Im slogging through mud while riding them, so they are out even though they technically should be a good fit.
  13. When I first make a trail it typically just goes straight through. I try to make a complete loop as quickly as possible. Then start to take individual sections and make them better. Straight through is boring.
  14. facebook marketplace, craigslist, facebook bicycle sell & trade austin facebook neighborhood groups - lakeway swap, nw hills garage sale, westlake swap
  15. I put my tallboy ltc up forsale and got about 20 inquiries over 24 hours. Sold it the day after I posted.
  16. Apparently everyone is trying to start biking and there is a shortage of used bikes (like there is a shortage of fitness equipment). This is a really good time to sell a bike you have been sitting on for awhile.
  17. would love the tri bars if they are still available
  18. probably because everyone in that neighborhood is working from home. I rarely have seen anyone on thumper except for the days leading up to the EB.
  19. Rode the ebike around cat today. Hit the motor on some ledges and not others. I tend not to slam into ledges, just lever myself up and over so hopefully the motor housing will last awhile. It is definitely cheating on the climbs. I kept it on the lowest setting and even then it surged a little too much. After my ride I wasnt tired so I ended up riding mesa and was able to hit 30mph pedaling hard.
  20. does deception ever get crowded or am I fine to go at any time?
  21. I posted awhile ago asking about the mid drive conversion kits on our texas rocks. No one had any experience with them, so I bit the bullet and bought a bafang bbs02 mid drive kit. The plan was to install it on my canfield EPO which my daughter and wife would ride. We live at the bottom of a steep hill and they simply cant climb the hill. The kit installed very easily there were only a couple of glitches. 1) anything under the bottom bracket can potentially block the motor from sliding in. The EPO has bash guard tabs and i had to use a hacksaw to cut it off and a dremel to smooth it down. Probably could have used the dremel to cut it off, but i wanted to take my time. 2) The downtube is curved so the battery pack needs something custom to fit in the triangle. A lot of triangles wouldnt fir the battery 3) My bottom bracket width is 73. The motor is best designed for 68 but does work for 73. I had to go buy two m6X20 cap head bolts and 10 washers to fill some gaps. There is a retaining cap in the form of a shimano bottom bracket diameter that cant be used. 4) lots of cables everywhere Once the motor is in the bottom bracket, you mount the battery then plug in a few cables. The crank arms are square taper (included) The controller has the following optional connections: throttle (it is standard, but I did not install) mechanical brake motor stop (mechanical levers with interface cables are included, did not install) hydraulic brake motor stop (optional, hasnt arrived yet) gear shift motor stop (optional, did not buy) The motor starts up when you pedal. If you stop pedaling the motor will cutoff after a second. When you pedal backwards the motor cuts off immediately. I was able to ride up far west at around 20mph. Pedaling definitely helps and you can decide how much effort you want to apply. The standard controller has 5 settings (0-4) that set the speed at that setting. You can probably control lag times and other behavior. I started to try riding cat to see if the motor would get smashed, but the battery is just strapped on and kept sliding around. Riding on the road was pretty amazing. Ill post once I get the battery properly mounted and have a chance to ride on a trail. I read about a newer middrive motor the "revel" which can hang at the same level as the bottom bracket so could be a better choice. If you have a spare bike laying around a conversion is pretty cool. With the options I got, I think it was $950.
  22. some of the older DT 240 (and presumably dt350) cannot be converted to through axle.
  23. do you actually want a trials bike? As in one to do trials riding? If so this one looks really good https://austin.craigslist.org/bik/d/austin-squared-bmx-race-bike/7099589796.html Did you mean you wanted a trail bike? right now there isnt anything on craigslist that meets your criteria, except this one which is rigid. I dont know the year, but it looks like an older geometry, but could be a good starter. You could upgrade the fork if you stick with it. https://austin.craigslist.org/bik/d/austin-10-speed-29er-marin-mtb/7109358384.html It looks like facebook marketplace has some additional choices, especially if you are willing to drive to another city. This kona honzo is only a large, might be too small but is one of the first bikes with todays modern geometry. https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/586085352130809/
  24. This blew my mind when I found out about it https://www.buzzfeednews.com/article/davidmack/cnn-sorry-for-not-airing-full-clip-of-milwaukee-sister
