  1. For the other side of Brodie, if you come down SP slalom run and take the left before the creek, there is a little root step then almost straight after a small rocky chute type thing. Someone has pulled a bunch of rocks from there- if that description makes sense. I took pictures of the rock I found and replaced on the trail next to Convict Hill- it wouldn’t upload earlier, will try again in a bit. I was planning to see if I could return some rocks to their homes this weekend, but the cedar got to me and I didn’t get out.
  2. A week or two ago I noticed quite a few large rocks have been pulled from the trail running next to Convict Hill, and also the other side of Brodie. Think it’s happened a few times in the last few years, but someone seems to be pretty busy ruining everyone else’s fun at the moment.
  3. I was unaware of all the dangers of using smart trainers:
  4. My wife has been getting allergy shots for a couple of years and they’ve been working really well, especially with sinus headaches. Not sure if it’s a common side-effect but she does get pretty wiped out the day of the shot. They’ve definitely been effective though.
  5. Forks arrived, as far as I can tell they look great. If they do have any cosmetic imperfections I’m too blinded by love at the moment to notice them. Seems to be a brand new fork. As long as I don’t discover that the internals have been stuffed with cut-in-half tennis balls I think I should be happy.
  6. I wasn’t really interested in a used fork either. The one I bought was listed as new, with minor cosmetic imperfections and no warranty. Missed delivery yesterday, should get it tomorrow. It’ll be part of a slow build, so won’t be used for a while. I will post on how they look when I get my paws on them.
  7. Been looking out for a sale on 160 forks for a while. The pro’s closet has new (2018) 27.5 160 Pikes for $340 before tax (380 with tax and shipping) at the mo.
  8. Thanks! I guess I’m oblivious to whether most areas are sketchy unless its really obvious. I was only thinking of that area as its close to home, I know the trails well, and they’re fairly easy going. Would BCGB be a better bet for riding at night?
  9. I haven’t been mountain biking at night before, but with my kids’ routine/ winter daylight hours I need to start. How are the bridges under William Cannon near Brodie, and under Brodie near Convict Hill, after dark? I have no concerns there during the day, but was wondering if I would be likely to be riding over extra “speed bumps” in sleeping bags, or set upon by the South Austin Strangler after dark?
  10. This is probably a stupid question- sorry. Is there just one waiver for all FR512 locations, or separate waivers for different landowners? If I signed a waiver and bought a membership mainly for Cat Mtn, would I need to sign a new waiver for here? Can’t remember the details of what I signed before.
  11. 2.5” in the rain gauge this morning, at the south end of Longview Rd.
  12. It looked very odd, but I was hoping it was true somehow.
  13. Looks like there has been quite a bit of variability in the rainfall totals in that part of town.
  14. Ok, that might have been a little strong- but it did sound like permanently removing bike access was being considered as a result. I’m not one of the people who have made the effort to build those trails, I guess they would have been thoroughly unimpressed if access was lost though.
  15. I think you can thank whichever stupid little c*nt it was that sneaked in to Flat Creek without paying or signing in, then crashed badly enough to need medical attention, for the closure. I thought it was supposed to be reopening soon though, Fri-Sun only? There’s a post about it on the Austin Mountain Biking group on FB.
  16. As we’re back to summer-like weather, it’s time to finish off the Pimm’s.
  17. New frame arrived. Exciting times! I’m hoping I don’t discover that the rear triangle is made of chocolate, and I don’t have to deal with customer service. The build will take a while, so for now I’ll have to make do with a mixture of staring at it adoringly, and running round the garden with it like a witch’s broom, while making motorcycle noises.
  18. Had a slight change of plans. I had previously decided against Evil bikes based on negative warranty stories on here, or maybe bike mojo. However, found an Insurgent frame on clearance for $999 and thought it was worth risking, so I grabbed one (not sure how good a deal that is, but it seemed decent to me). So if anyone is interested, it looks like evo.com still have some xl insurgent frames for $999.
  19. Thanks! Looking for an xl though. One of my concerns about the mojo 3 is that the xl looks like it might be on the small side for that size.
  20. I’m looking at moving up from an old 100mm travel 26” fs bike. I had been thinking of keeping it and getting something on the longer travel side of trail, leaning more towards enduro. There are some fairly decent deals on mojo 3s at the moment though. Does anyone have one, and if so what do you think? I’d be using it in Austin, riding a bit of everything, so I’m looking for a jack of all trades really.
  21. The area with the daycare quality circle around it is where I think I was when I crashed.
  22. I’m not 100% sure, but I think it was north of the entrance to 0.6, heading down towards the creek (Tar Branch), it wasn’t on 0.6 itself.
  23. I rode straight into this a couple of months ago. I think it was around 0.6, I’m not that familiar with that area as I normally only ride WC during my lunch break and that section isn’t on my usual route. I thought I was near the edge of the park and hadn’t realized I was leaving- didn’t mention it here as it seemed like I had been stupid and missed something everyone else already knew about. When I crashed, the fence was probably around half-wheel height and pretty well covered with vegetation to the side of the trail. I didn’t see it at all- there was just complete surprise as I found my self face down in the dirt, still clipped in with my bike carrying on over my head forcing me into some weird scorpion shape I never wanted to be in.
  24. Took a quick walk over to bmx loop/windy loop. Puddle was still there at the top of bmx loop. The climb up from the creek on windy was dry. Ground isn’t fully muddy but a little on the soft side- didn’t seem like it was too far from being good if it stays hot and dry though. Not sure about the other trails.
