  1. Has nothing to do with simplification, but everything to do with just enjoying the ride again. Joint, tendon and asthma issues over the last couple of years have me to the point where my body can only handle one, sometimes 2 rides per week... and that's during a "good" period. My rides have become more about getting through it, rather than enjoying it... It would be really nice to be able to focus on enjoyment again, rather than "embracing the suck" and enduring pain. The ability to enjoy the climbs has long passed, and now I'm getting to the point where I'm so spent after the climbs, that I can't even enjoy the descents...

  2. This was interesting. Big barleywine taste with prominent bitterness. I'd probably buy another, if it were a few bucks cheaper.

  3. I was at Little Bellas too. I'm on a dark blue Orbea - come say hi. A buddy I rode with a few Little Bella's ago was on an e-bike recovering from an injury. Seems like a good use case. I intend to switch over to one too when I get old enough and need a little extra help pedaling. If it allows people to mountain bike for longer, I'm all for it.

  4. I miss all the stumps, tree gates, and roots that have disappeared over the past year. :-( Sent from my Pixel 5 using Tapatalk

  6. You can always go for a ride in the morning when it's "cooler" and then deal with the humidity. When speeds slow way down for the usual switchback ledge rockbike riding, things get miserable. Quick. On a gravel bike it's not bad.

  7. Somebody on Nextdoor gave me three Chamberlain belt drive units. Only need two. Couple years old. Want one? Also, just upgraded my wheels to nylon rollers, that helped our belt system to be even quieter.

  8. You’d be amazed at what you can be used to, move and find it incredibly unbearable when you return. My college summer job was on a cable tv line crew. 10+ hours climbing poles, drilling to hang hardware and the steel wire, then reversing course to lash the cable line to the steel guide. This in 90-100 temps and 95% humidity in S La. along roads and fields under power lines there is no shade. Just to make it more miserable it would rain pretty much every afternoon for 15 min so you’d get a nice steam coming off the asphalt for an hour plus. Still that was better than when you had to slug it thru sugar cane fields or swampy sections you can’t get equipment into. Dragging 3-400 lbs of steel wire pole to pole then having to climb the pole with spurs, which meant knee high leather climbing boots, long sleeves, leather gloves and heavy assed tool belt. Best incentive to finish college ever invented, but covered 2 semesters room and board and then some. Now I just hate it and avoid going there in July and August unless there’s some sort of family must attend thing. Austin ain’t humid but it is hot as fuck and there is no tree canopy. 9. I can't tell whether @CBaron wants us to go faster at R&I or if he wants me to start packing tequila. Either works for me.

  10. I did one about 8 years ago. Bought the hardware kit for a few hundred dollars, which included the plans and cut sheet. I spent a few hours making all the cuts and then assembled everything in a few more hours. We did stain grade plywood, then the wife decided she wanted to paint it. I ended up then doing bookshelves on the sides (another full weekend). It was in a small room and really helped. Basically the kid crib and play room, but when guests came it was the guest room.

  11. That was something we thought about for our guest room. In the end we got a fancy futon that doesn't have to be moved from the wall to deploy instead.

  12. even if you don't use a lot, that "vintage" ironing board is a badass bit of retro kitch to have in the house. we've explored putting a Murphy bed in one room. that's another project that my wife tells me is "easy" because someone in YouTube did it in an afternoon, but it will take me three months and cost thousands of dollars, then fall on me while I'm not paying attention to it during work.

  13. Can't tell you the last time I did but my wife & daughter use it. Board came with the house so it stayed. Guess it beats dragging one out of the closet.

  14. Can it be taken orally? I've been really creaky lately.
