  1. Dumb question... What tire PSI are you running in the front?
  2. https://www.probikesupply.com/collections/forks/products/manitou-markhor-fork-29-100mm-travel-9mm-axle-matte-black I put the 27.5 version on my HT. Like I said, I've only ridden it a few times but it was based on a little bit of research on reviews.
  3. I have a comparable HT to the Talon, and a FS, dated but highly functional. In general every component is "better" on my FS than my HT. The FS is a 150mm bike and is like riding a Cadillac through the beginner trails on Brushy. I am always looking for ways to ride over bigger obstacles, harder lines etc. to keep entertained. It is fun to mob through obstacles without worry. In the end, it rides more comfortable but does wear me out faster. The HT has a decent entry level fork (100mm), better than most factory ones on entry level machines but not great. It's a blast to ride at Brushy on Picnic/ Peddlers/ even 1/4 notch. It's built more skill in me and is more engaging than the FS. I can put on more miles but it does take a harder toll on my body. I'm under 40 (getting close...) so it's not big issue for me but noticeable. Strava tells me that I ride my HT 2:1 when looking at accumulated mileage. I 90% agree with upgrading your current bike. To a point. There are limited forks out there for bikes with strait steerers that are actually any better than what you have. Because I like my HT so much I recently decided it was worth it to upgrade the Rockshox 30 Silver TK 100mm fork to a Manitou Markhor 120mm fork. My comments above are based on the TK Silver, I haven't put enough miles on the Markhor to give an opinion.
  4. She muttered something about never returning to Midland...
  5. I once saw a kid from a ski class of 7-8yos get completely taken out by an out-of-control snowboarder, took his legs right out from him and laid him out on his back. The ski teacher rushed over, checked for broken bones while the kid was still crying, whipped out a baggie of gummy bears and gave him one. He shut up, stood up and skied away like it never happened.
  6. If any of you are skiers or snowboarders you know that little groms hitting features doesn't count.
  7. I did some hiking in NM at had a similar elevation change. 7K wasn't so bad but 10K+ is no joke, air is pretty thin up there, especially for this sea-level rider.
  8. I'm nominating this on the Best of CL thread.😅
  9. A selfless plug for RWC. They have all kinds of suspension/bike bearings and list them individually and by set/ bike. If you give them specifics to build a new kit they don't have in their catalog they give you the set for free. I did this with my '07 Mission. https://www.enduroforkseals.com/products/rear-suspension/suspension-pivot-bearing-kits/
  10. I try to always use my trail tools bench side first. I have used these 2-3 times, my chief complaint is they only do master-link disassembly vs assembly like some dedicated bench tools. Luckily, is usually pretty easier to use the pedals/ brake to set the master-link.
  11. I like me some DEET in my bug spray but I never considered it something to lather into my skin. I use the 98% DEET "Jungle Juice" from REI. Been using the same 8oz bottle for years. I just spritz it around the openings in my clothes (back of collar, tops of socks, end of sleeves). However, I've really only used it as a deterrent against mosquitos/ flies/ gnats. Rubbing it into your skin can lead to a reaction/ allergy from repeat exposure.
  12. I carry these, adds 0 weight since they are also my main trailside tire levers. https://www.amazon.com/KMC-MISSINGLINK-LEVER-Missing-Lever/dp/B07662N436/
  13. yeah, I quoted your quote from Schoolie and noticed it grabbed your User Name.
  14. In customer service it's hard not to assume you're as dumb as everyone else.
  15. That guy comes up every so often on here/ Mojo, always the same story. My $0.02, a coworker got a bike from him, he seemingly runs a side hustle flipping legit bikes. Prices always seem plenty high, for what they are, even if they are the "Perfect Bike for Austin".
  16. X3, I've done this on stuck inner and outer races. The hard part is doing it slowly and controled, ideally you don't want to go too deep and knick the surface of the rocker the bearing contacts. I like a dremmel because it's alot easier to ease in than a pneumatic die grinder. If you go the hammer method, use a large diameter socket to rest against the bottom face of the rocker, it will help have a good surface to pound against. Hard to explain, I can draw a picture if you want...
  17. Yeah, I lock my bike to my 1Up for two reasons If I screwed up tensioning the bike rack, I'd rather it fall off and be dragged then end up in someone's windshield. If I need to quickly pop into a store on my way home and I want to deter the "opportunist thief" Look up lockpicking lawyer on YouTube, just about anything can be defeated. Just depends on how much time/ cover you give the thief.
  18. I'd ride it, but I'm aware of the strain I'm putting on the drivetrain and the risk I'm taking. Plus the failure mode is not the worst thing... HOWEVER, in today's lawyer happy world, I would always recommend replacement for a paying customer's bike.
  19. I'm really cheap on baggies too, they all seem so over priced. Then again, I am rocking the same Novara (REIs Old bike brand) shorts from 2003ish... Dang. But they look 2-3 years old, tops. They've held up extremely well. I remember paying $60-$80 for them. I got to remember to amortize my gear over 8-10 years MINIMUM!
