  1. I've never made it that far south after a rain. It is pretty rocky down there so maybe. I plan to eat BBQ and drink whiskey to maybe feel better about not riding. It looks like shit outside.
  2. I'm going pre-ride some of the SATN social this Saturday. So if you can't make it next week or you want to go over some of the route ahead of time then come on out. I was thinking the north and south routes but I also want to keep it close to 4 hours and that would be pretty fast for 43 miles so we might shave off some bits.
  3. Ergon GA3s on my hardtail XC bike for a little extra comfort and the Lizard Skins Moab grips on my trail bike. Lizard Skins will let you customize your lock-on rings if you order on their website.
  4. This makes so much sense especially with the new around the tower route. Thanks for the pictures.
  5. I sincerely hope you find the BBC you are looking for.
  6. I wouldn't be so sure. We've already established that I am bad at directions. Maybe it SHOULDNT be seen 🙂 if I see it I won't tell anyone. Ah yeah didn't think of that coming from the new path higher up. Anyone who doesn't know that route might get caught up. Good call. Whatever group I'm leading I'll be sure to point that out. I just read on the internet there is a ride at ATX Saturday 8am. The plan is to do S and N routes. I'll be there and can lead a group.
  7. I missed the truck last week when we did the N route too. There are just enough parallel trails in Latta for me to get confused even when my GPS is supposed to be giving me directions. Is that the creek crossing just before the park? If so I've never seen a rim killer in there but maybe it was covered with brush 👍 Anyone want to do a pre-ride this weekend? 30-40 miles?
  8. A buddy of mine retired there and loves it. It checks a lot of boxes but it's a long way from family. If I wanted to hermit myself that'd be top of my list.
  9. Maybe this dude started riding locally?
  10. The Rail Trail for sure. Tune Up & The Pantry would be two of my recommendations as well, mostly for breakfast or brunch. The Pantry is sometimes hard to get in to but worth it. It was featured in the 538 burrito bracket. Second Street Brewing is a good post ride lunch spot and two of the locations are on the rail trail. One at the rail yard across from the Violet Crown and the other on 2nd street. The other location is down by Meow Wolf which is totally worth a trip of it's own. I want to say all 3 have different kitchen options. I like the location on 2nd if you can catch a table outside under the tree with some chile cheese fries... Damn now I want to go. Tune up and Second Street are probably dog friendly. Actually there's a cool pizza place across the street from Second Street Brewing called Back Road Pizza. I bet they are dog friendly too.
  11. I live that Wahoo lifestyle. I used to have to take my Garmin off my bike and plug it in to the computer to manually upload rides. Now as soon as I'm within wifi range of the house or I connect it to my phone I get that sweet sweet Strava karma. But really they are dead simple to set up and use with the smart phone and at least when I was doing comparisons came up cheaper than the comparable Garmin. I'd buy whatever is cheapest tho TBH. Had a Garmin Edge 500 for years it was fine. I like having a screen to look at and I don't like watches YMMV.
  12. Yeah good riding with yall. Too bad I had to bail early, that looked like a good route back. I'd do it again if anyone wants to learn more trails. Sat or Sun morning rides from DN?
  13. Maybe. I have to wrap up around 10 so earlier is better.
  14. Will my wife be as mad, less mad, or more mad that I bought another bike online vs in the shop?
  15. Pedals probably don't even come with the bike so there's also that to check on. Certainly not good pedals. Most pedals install with a 8mm anyway from what I remember of the last few bikes I built. I ride clipless though (sorry not sorry) maybe flats still use the wrench? If you don't have one I'd recommend even a cheap torque wrench. Small aluminum and carbon parts don't respond well to over tightening and stripping isn't as fun as it sounds.
  16. Word. Someday when I ride enough to need new tires maybe I'll try 28's. I could probably fall asleep on those and the new pavement on the Veloway.
  17. Yup the tube has to have some air in it just to get it in the tire correctly for sure. I didn't do the pinch all around the edges thing this time. I've been getting complacent maybe. This brand did seem to be pre-powered so that was nice. Save that baby talc for another day. Full pressure for me now at ~190lbs on 25c is between 95 and 100 psi. Probably still what some consider high. Back in the day I was a bit lighter and rolling on 22-23c tires but I probably ran 120-125psi. Riding chip seal and jumping cattle guards on aluminum bikes 😬
  18. Brand was Foundation. Just some cheap stuff for my wife's veloway laps. 2 out of 3 tubes (maybe) had failures. One mystery leak with no corresponding mark in the tire and one blow out. When re-seating a tire I air up to ~40psi then back down to 0 before going all the way up to riding pressure to combat pinches and twists but who knows ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I'm gun shy on the high pressure pump now 🤣
  19. Swapping a tube in the wife's bike and had a blowout around 90 psi. Now I have even more hearing damage. Followed all the same procedures I usually do for a tube swap. Just one of those fluke things I guess. Don't know if you can tell from the image but it split down a seam somehow. That tire is really loose on the rim. It took almost no effort to get the bead on after getting the tube in. Maybe the bead slipped over the rim instead of seating?

I'm just glad Sky Ineos didn't win in the first week. It's been nice to have a reason to watch each day to see what's happened. What happened to Froome is terrible but it has been more exciting to watch.
  21. Not a fruit but full of wasps just like a fig. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fig_wasp
  22. CnD was actually nice this week. I don't know if it was temperature or humidity but I felt good for once. I don't ride well in the heat at all. The brain just tells my body to shut it all down past 90 degrees. I survive Texas summers to enjoy our perfect winters. I've already been daydreaming about fall.
