  1. Is this still on every week? I just called TWC at 5:15 pm and no one picked up. Edit- they called me back promptly and confirmed the rode is on.
  2. Relevant - https://www.texasobserver.org/is-texas-overcrowded-underfunded-state-parks-system-being-loved-to-death/
  3. Sorry, I thought you were talking about the water that slimes up the gulley on the way to the creek. Sounds like that has become more of a problem and an indication that people don't know how to irrigate without wasting water.
  4. Has anyone approached the Powers about diverting that water to the creek in a less problematic way?
  5. Traitor Crusade, Cowbell bar, TRP Hylex brakes, Arch EX rims, 38/16 gear, 35mm Gravelkings. This bike gets ridden everywhere I can find that's not too chunky. Fun on pavement, hardpack, and gravel paths.
  6. Go to REI and try on a pack. Ask to borrow some of the beanbag weights they keep in the backpacking section and load up the pack to see how it fits.
  7. One horse-sized duck or 100 duck-sized horses?
  8. Maybe it's just me. That big kale smoothie I had for breakfast has residual after-effects hours later.
  9. Guidelines for writing guidelines: use as few words as possible. Hack words down like ragweed encroaching on the trail. Hack until short!
  10. BikeALot hosted one time at their previous location. That will be a great spot for a social gathering when the new Quack's finally opens too.
  11. No really, I have commented multiple times about riders standing around, blocking the driveway behind ATX Bikes, pissing off drivers. There are plenty of places to stand around and get stoked, but they choose the spot the inconveniences our neighbors until the event gets shut down. I am done with trying, just waiting for my chance to say "told ya so."
  12. No. But this is pretty close. A few people have done very long, single rides and posted them on Strava. Study any of those, or the three routes that Tip posted in the SATN Social thread that those about cover it. Throw in Mary Moore Seawright too.
  13. Last time I checked, bikes are technically not allowed in Stephenson. Dogs are not allowed either. However, there is almost not signage declaring such, no enforcement, and plenty of riding going on in there. And dog-walking. Keep it low key and it will probably remain tolerated.
  14. My MiNewt is perched directly on top of my handlebar. This position puts the light behind the brake hoses on my bike and, try as I might, there seems to be no practical way to reposition the hoses to avoid the shadows that creates. So I'd like to reposition the headlight. I have a secondary light on my helmet that is fine where it is. What model, brackets, alternatives have you tried to raise and push forward your handlebar light? I see a ton of generic versions of brackets like the one below, how well do those work?
  15. I have spent quite a bit of time in the horsefly lair lately. The scourge seems to have passed.
  16. You're going to make more of those, right? Sign me up. I have a strap-on mount for my NiteRider and I hate how tall it is. I use a Livestrong bracelet instead.
  17. One more guideline: let the singlespeeders pass you before a hill climb. They do not have the option of slowing down. Pass them on the downhill.
  18. A bit off-topic: how useful are modern GPS computers for navigating trails? I have a GPS watch, but it's only useful for mapping where I have been, not where I want to go. Could I load a trail route on one and use it to follow a specific route? I could do that with my phone but I don't want a $800 phone strapped to my handlebar, and pulling it out of my pockets every five minutes is a PITA. Clearly I am not cutting edge!
  19. I am curious to see how this works out compared to the Bowie Scavenger Hunt format. I sadly missed that event, though.
  20. I'll make an effort to ride these routes on my own, or with a tiny group. I can stop frequently and check my phone to make sure I am making the correct turns. It will be a "slow" ride in the end, but an educational one. I am not a Strava expert- what's the best way to use Strava to follow a specific path?
  21. Also, I am done with lending tools to people on a ride. Not a CnD ride, but someone nearly broke my pump the last time I lent it out. He was riding very thin tires and didn't want to carry anything heavy like a pump. Bring your own stuff to fix your bike! Unless it's a safety concern, DIY or walk. Karma will bite me in the ass on my next ride when I forget something.
  22. When I rode this last year, I ran 32mm CX tires (skinny ones at that) with tubes. It was rough, and I didn't "kick ass" (more like dragging ass) but it was fine. You just have to get loose and keep pedaling.
