Yeah, dude. That widget-X looks sweet. I've been seeing ads for that all over my feed since you post about it here. I think the only way I'd pay for Strava was if it would make the contention within the community (and with other trail users) go away. Although, it probably does the opposite.

This thread now exemplifies why I don't like riding outside of my circle of friends. If I have to wait for you to line up logos, level crank arms, take multiple seat heights, etc., I hope you at least brought me a snack to pass the time and a post ride beer to say sorry.

Must be water leak season. I noticed the cabinet under the sink was wet and traced it to the disposal. So, I’ll be installing a new one this weekend. Luckily we caught it before the water had a chance to damage anything. On the “got something for free and fixed it” topic, my lawn mower has been on its last leg for a couple years. I literally have the carburetor holding on with bailing wire. So when I saw a nice looking mower on the curb with a “free” sign, I scooped it up. It started right up, but the self propel wasn’t engaging. I flipped over and saw that the drive belt had come off. Simple fix. Free mower.

Same. Spice for the sake of spice is not my jam. I'm adding hot sauce to food because the food lacks flavor, not that it lacks pain. This is one of my favorites ever. Good for pizza, burgers, eggs, and other American type foods, and also basically anything edible. Spicy enough to notice, pretty sweet, but it's all really balanced with the earthiness of the truffle.

My garage has a large, nearly wall sized door that can completely open, which really helps with ventilation. Other than that, we have a couple fans. Since covid, the garage has been adapted to a home gym as well. My wife wants to put a portable RV style A/C in there, but it seems pretty wasteful. My garage is pretty shaded and faces a preferable direction, so it's tolerable. We both exercised out there all summer without dying, but it would be nice to just drop it down a few degrees for an hour or two as needed.

Love this thread! I got a bunch. First one, if you like the BS rooster sriracha, stop what you are doing and go buy this. Fix Sriracha. It's not quite as spicy as the rooster sauce, but soooo much more depth of flavor.

I still ride over there regularly. Some of the singletrack still exists and the golf course is still abandoned. Most of the roads have been repaved, but there are a few that are nicely rutted dirt roads. Those roads plus the the golf course cart path make a fun gravel ride or take the MTB over there and connect the singletrack that I've found with some golf course and road in between. I wish there were still 25 miles of singletrack. There is so much potential for MTB if we were given permission to build jumps and berms on the golf course. Imagine an easy pedal up a cart path, then turning down a sweeping open par 5, carving from one side of the fairway to the other, with bermed curves and jumps and technical features in between. Just sayin'...

That's exactly what my dad is doing. Freshly retired, wants to make a difference in the community, and what better way to spend newly found free time than bickering with other retirees. You'd have my vote.

If you happen to live in Woodcreek, TX (outside of Wimberley) vote for Jeff Rasco for city council. He is all for less traffic and safer streets for bikes, walkers, etc. I don't think there are a whole lot of MTB specific related issues in our little city, but if there were he would be on our side. I can say this with confidence because he is my dad. Also, if you happen to live in Woodcreek, TX, we should probably go ride together.

This reminds me of something I read about buying a telescope for my dad, but it can be applied to just about any hobbyist purchase. The best option is the one you feel you will use the most. I choose to wear my pads (G-Forms) based more on temperature than the terrain I'm riding. I should probably be better at erring on the side of caution in those borderline temp days like we are having now. I figure that wearing pads is the smartest decision until heat stroke fries your brain. I'm more likely to put on those minimal G-Forms than anything heavier. I gone through a few sets of G-Forms. They aren't the most durable, and the category of lightweight pads has come along since I settled on G-Forms. Maybe next time I'll shop around more. I have a set of older RF pads that offer more protection than the G-Forms. They are the d30 gel or whatever, not plastic, so they are trying to get into that lightweight category, but still pretty bulky. I'll wear them for the occasional bike park trip, but they really suck to pedal in. If those were my only choice, I would rarely wear them.

As I alluded to before, sometimes you can find some steals on Amazon if you are willing to not care about colors or patterns (also helps if you wear a less common size I suppose). These arrived with a $80 price tag on them. I bought 2 pairs. Probably should have gotten more, but they are pretty damn ugly.

Do you have any more like it? I've been in the market for an unknown item lately.
