  1. I'd love to read your elaboration on this. I was interested in the Chameleon in SS trim as a future bike for me.
  2. Dirtsurfer, the conversation from John at PARD, his opinion is one thing, but what did he say about what the law actually says? I ask because in the last 6 months or so there has been a pilot program to allow EPAMDs (actually, I think it may actually say scooters) in certain trails. The signs are still up on some of these trails. I think Walnut is one of them, so is Shoal Creek. I'm not sure about other trails. To me, that means that they're not currently allowed in other trails. So that would be good to clarify. Don't misinterpret any of this as us wanting the trails to ourselves. We just want the trails. We don't want to give certain people the excuse to ban everyone off parks or trails while we're arguing over legal definitions. Yes, a-hole MTBers are part of what we worry about too and the people that are in the frontlines battling to gain and maintain access get to hear about every bad interaction. I was thinking about OWs as I was trying to flatten bike rutts at Brushy Creek. That big fat wheel would take care of them in no time.
  3. It’s our job to embarrass them! That’s why I haven’t washed my car in 4-5 years after one of mine said something about not wanting me to pick him up from school in my car.
  4. I rode ~1:30 to 3pm or so. Peddlers West was a bit damp but not rutting or sticking, but the trail is closed partway in, so just avoid it. The rollers at Peddlers East are still damp at the bottom. They're very rutted. I stopped to flatten some of those ruts. One was good, the other was too soft and sticking so I moved on. 1/4 was good, but it started sprinkling on my way out.
  5. Apologies to the dude riding E-W on 1/4 notch today. My first time on the trails in a while, and even longer since I rode at Brushy. I had not seen a soul on the trails in 1hr 15 minutes and wasn't feeling great...totally zoned out when we both yielded. Then you said "I'm the last one" and then I said "have a good one" instead of "me too". Yeah, I think I won't be thinking such hard thoughts when I don't get a response now. Maybe people are just zoned out in their own world, either suffering or having a blast. Also, on my way E-W, I can't remember what that pile of rocks we go over is called. The big rock was moved and all the little rocks were everywhere. I had to stop right at the top b/c that threw me off. I took a picture (on my phone) and didn't know how to put it back together. I also noticed the alternate line (I thought it had been deemed authorized to hopefully stop the messing with the rocks) was blocked. On my way back W-E it was back together as it should be. Had to had been the same person I ran into before that fixed it. Thanks! But about the alternate line, should it stay blocked?
  6. Seems like the rain keeps holding off, at least where I live. Are the trails rideable at Brushy?
  7. My colleague is just coming back today. He found out some info about MTBing in Hong Kong there for the next time we're there (including how to get to HK from Shenzen). He would have gone this time but they had some rain and opted for hiking instead. It looks pretty nice around Shenzen. I looked in Austinbike for China info but didn't see any.
  8. I run Stan's Crest (original) with WTB Nano 40c tires tubeless and I love it. I tried 32c tires tubeless but the bead would break too easily when pressure is lost probably b/c the rims are too wide. I still have to run 45psi or higher for CX or I'll burp in the off-cambers. I can run lower for gravel but I don't. I'm at 205lbs.
  9. I've worked with some people for years (probably over 10) that will not even acknowledge you in the hallway. Some just look down, but some look at you and don't say a thing when you say hi. Now it's a game with me...I'll almost be disappointed if they actually say hi or nod...it's like a streak I want to keep going. BTW, I don't say "how's it going" as a greeting unless I want to find out how it is going. I just say hi.
  10. Should we trim that at the base?
  11. I was warned by someone about the risk for PEs on endurance athletes. It seems like having a big event like Ironman or 24 hour race, then getting into a plane for a few hours after has some risks. Since I heard that, I wear my compression socks on flights after big rides.
  12. I think that's a the handle of a tool that's in the tote behind the bike.
  13. I ordered that book the moment I saw your post and just got it today. It's an awesome book!
  14. I got my years wrong, it was 2012. That’s forever ago and it lasted 7 more years?!
  15. Yes, I loved those rides! I still remember on one particular night ride, the girls on 6th street telling @GFisher nice butt.
  16. In the 2014 RHR24, 16 times I wondered if it was going to collapse that time.
  17. A co-worker had plans to electrify an old S10. He's retired now and had more projects than I can count, so I don't know if he'll ever do it, but I'd also love a plug-in hybrid mini-truck. You may not have to wait long though. I just read yesterday how Ford funded Rivian with $500M and will use the Rivian platform for a Ford vehicle (speculation is super high!) I'm driving my now 12 year old Mazdaspeed3 which I love and is still a reliable car at 100k miles. I'm holding off to see what the next 2-3 years from Mazda brings. With their SkyActiv compression ignition gas and diesel tech + some electrics I think they're going to make some cool things that are fun to drive. My biggest dilemma is that my commute is 4.5 miles so I don't really need 300-400 miles of electric range, and my car is not what the family would travel on. I thought about getting a used original Leaf (they are super cheap now) until something better comes along. The people I work with have Leafs (Leaves?), Model S, Model 3, Model X, Volts and they all love their vehicles. I think if GM had made the Volt into something like a mini truck I would have bought one instantly. Perfect electric range so I'd be electric 99% of the time, and an engine that operates at peak efficiency for those longer trips, and practical. I'd have even bought one if they made a wagon (or 5-door hatch with real cargo space like my Mazda).
  18. I'm picturing a gumball 3000 race to 1033 pendragon castle drive...
  19. I have the blue white and red version that still came with the sliders. I love it!
  20. Fixed it for ya! I seem to buy something new when I read a thread like this and want to try some other stuff, and this is how I end up with 5-6 lube bottles. Pro-Link is good stuff too. One year I worked the pits for my Canadian friends at the RHR24 as well as a couple of locals. There were 5 different types of lube being used and it was a messy race. Pro-Link and R&R Gold seemed to have the cleanest chains with the least amount of grinding noise.
  21. We were all good until you food extremists started with the diet of the day, x is evil, etc. 😀 I took CPR (lapsed though) and the stats given for chance of survival with CPR were 10-12%. AEDs are only for v-fib, so they don't really fix everything. But ask Stanton Truxillo (old Austin Cycling president) if he wasn't glad someone knew CPR when he had his event during a ride! 100% agree go get a stress-test with an echo cardiogram if you're worried and/or have a family history. Go get a colonoscopy if you're over 45 and with risk factors. Then stop worrying about it and go ride a lot and eat all the things in moderation (I believe in Michael Pollan's: real food, mostly plants, not too much)
  22. The ultrasonic cleaner with heater I got takes maybe 10 minutes for warm-up of the liquid and 10 minutes of running and the chains come out new. I use Zep Orange Degreaser from Home Depot. I rinse it with warm water and blow excess water with the compressor.
