I cringe when I see a rider on Hamilton Pool Rd. Usually dressed in camouflage (asphalt colored kit). I figure they have a death wish. So a shoulder on it will be a live saver for real. Looking at the map of new lands I would guess that will not mean more trails.

No way I'm going to LEVO this thread alone. I don't care if you think I'm a smelly Turb. O how it hurts me to hear it though.

Is punning bad? Christmas is coming and we shouldn't be bad. We don't want Santa to Cruz past our houses.
-
I just don't want to be the Giant jerk that continues an unpopular punning thread.

Huh? But we haven't cycled through all the brands YETi, have we?

The Tip replied to June Bug's topic in Mountain Biking Discussion
It has now been officially canceled. It might be held after the new year. Those that have paid should be seeing their refunds. -

Why would your father be embarrassed by your solder skills just because he has very wide feet? 😉

CANCELLED: ARR's Cranksgiving, Nov. 27 @ Reimers Ranch

That question is now answered. 10 miles. It's all the available blue and green single track. No Flow Trail, nor the two black loops. -

Rain date, November 26th, ... 2022? Yes, it is not looking good. 92% chance of rain at 1 pm. (so says Weather Underground) -
Next task for your Berryman's experiment...ice pick!

Reminds me of what my grandfather use to say to me. "Never ask a man where he is from. You don't want to embarrass him if he's not from Texas. And if he is from Texas, he'll tell you soon enough anyway."

https://tpwd.texas.gov/publications/nonpwdpubs/water_issues/rivers/navigation/riddell/navigability.phtml Interesting page from Texas Parks and Wildlife. It seems navigable is more defined by width of creek bed rather than amount of water. I would imagine the "fight" would come down to who can afford the lawyers the longest. Does the trail builder group have the resources or does the landowner?

"Gradient Boundary" Very interesting. I can think of several areas where this could be used as an argument for access. One being the north bank of Williamson Creek where that church gentleman was so adamant about their property going all the way to the center of the stream a few years ago. It could also be used to open up going south of Wyldwood to follow Slaughter Creek from the Veloway to Bauerle. That would be cool. I know "navigable water way" has been bandied about as a way to gain access through lands. But I haven't heard gradient boundary before. It must not be a perfect solution though. I know the city has tried to gain access along Williamson Creek west of Brush Country to extend the Williamson Creek Greenbelt all the way to the ball fields at 290/71. There are three parcels of land block it just west of Brush Country. As far as I know the city has still not found a solution to getting past that land. Seems like they would be even more motivated now that the city as acquired the land behind Valero for a pocket park.

I am disappointed on how this turned out. I was envisioning a 30 mile no pedal flowy trail. Not something that only the top 10% of riders can handle. Shoot, I'm afraid of the consequences of fail from falling from a two foot high skinny! So this thing has zero appeal to me. I'm guessing that the terrain gave them no choice though. Sometimes there just isn't a place for a B line.

2021 Cranksgiving. Reimers Ranch, November 27th
The Tip replied to The Tip's topic in Events / Races
Maybe it's $5 per person OR $10 per car full. So stuff the car with as many as will fit! I'm not sure what the course is going to be. I hope it doesn't have either of the two black segments but includes Flow Trail. -
A good time of year to ride Reimers. https://www.bikereg.com/52913?fbclid=IwAR0e5Pfzyb7JF26QogCKVrxCi2GvhFaBIcq7uNeTL5eAJBGIwEc_sk8MyXU

Forget ebikes. The real apocalypse is here: https://www.reuters.com/business/autos-transportation/japan-startup-targets-supercar-users-with-700000-hoverbike-2021-10-26/ -

Your post is true, but the brap bros you speak of don't need an ebike to be dicks about trail etiquette. -

Exactly. You pussy whippersnappers with your gears, and suspension, and fancy "new-matic" tires! When I was young we rode bikes with no gears. We didn't even have chains. And we had wooden wheels. Most of those weren't even really round! We just pushed ourselves around with our feet, with our wheels going thump thump, all the time the iron seat jackhammering our ass...AND WE LOVED IT! Y'all should just use helicopters to get around the trails if you don't like real biking. -

The first sign of the apocalypse

I've been trying to let my wife buy her one. The first reason so she can keep up with me when we bike together. The second reason, that I don't share with her, is so I can ride it. But not at Cat Mountain. There are other local places that they would be fun to ride. I would love one at the Meridian Bowl (even though it's only 70' of drop) and at the Flow Trail at Reimers (140'). I always want to go down a lot more times than I have the energy to go up! I was going to get a too big for her and too small for me frame. Is that wrong of me? 😄 Unfortunately she rode one at Glorietta that a friend lent her. It did not sell her. The opposite actually. As we all know power does not equate to trail riding ability. She was still just as uncomfortable riding technical (to her) trails as she is on her bike. "Fun as shit" is right. I've ridden a couple but only on quick 2 minute try-it-out rides. I've watched other people test ride them too. I have yet to see anyone NOT break out with a big smile as soon as they start pedaling. I forget where it's posted, but someone linked an article about industry people predicting trends. They all said that eMTBs will be a thing. They are hoping that they will get light enough that you will be able to ride them turned off if you want. Giving their usage even more flexibility. -
I never mountain biked with toe cages. Thousands of miles on roads though. I can't even imagine mountain biking with them. 😲

I actually learned to clip in (I'm giving up on using "clipless." Kids today don't even know what toe clips were!) by starting on campus pedals. Flats on one side, clips on the other. As I came to something technical, "Pretty good chance I'll fall trying this," I would unclip and rotate to the flat side. Of course the clips are what helps get through the techy stuff, and I knew that, even then. But that contra thinking, playing it safe, helped build my confidence and allowed me to ease into the clipped in world. I know this is not a popular route to take but it worked for me. After I was pretty much 100% staying clipped in I bought new pedals to move on from that downside of the campus pedals. That's having to rotate them and find the side you want.
