  1. Actually RPR will be fine. Not sure if folks remember the rains in Oct of 2015 during the Formula One weekend, but in some areas it rained 12" in 6 hours. They considered it a 2,300 year event. I had a buddy in town and we rode at RPR that Sunday after they had gotten 14" of rain over the prior 2 days, and it was perfectly fine. I'm planning to head out there this Sunday with my friend Jay from West Virginia who is here selling Xmas trees (Papa Noel).
  2. Had my first ride yesterday with the Viper 9. Easily moved all of my gear over from my old Deuter pack, i.e. tube, multitool, tire tool, CO2 pump and cartridges. My phone fit perfectly in the lined outer pocket, I didn't even use the largest storage pocket that is adjacent to the bladder compartment, but it would work nicely for snacks and some extra clothing. The reason I jumped on this deal was the removeable waist straps. I've never liked using those and have had to cut them off of other packs. Even with my gear and the 2.5L bladder filled 3/4 of the way, the pack felt empty. Way lighter and more comfortable than any pack I've ever used. The flimsy bladder and smaller fill hole will take some getting used to since my Deuter pack had a much thicker Source bladder with a huge fill opening. Hopefully the flimsy Osprey bladder will stand up to getting folded and stuffed into my freezer between rides, which is what I do to keep from having to wash it all the time.
  3. I rode Deception W-E and was on the look out for a lycra-clad, eightball-looking dude on a black Troy. Must have missed you! It was fabulous out there. Scored a PR on Deception without even trying, and also while dodging quite a bit of oncoming traffic. I'm going back out tomorrow afternoon for sure.
  4. I've never found any reason to move away from 29" wheels with 2.35 or 2.4 tires. They do everything I need them to do and I've never felt like I'm missing out on any fun. My DT Swiss XMC 1200 carbon rims are 24mm internal and my Stan's Arch MK3 rims are 26mm internal. Both seem to be just fine for all of the riding I do.
  5. I don't like to fall, but when I do fall, I like to fall like this!
  6. Go with red and at least you'll look like a Christmas ornament!
  7. The rocks on Double Down and the connector over to Rim were slick as snot this morning. I guess it was just due to a really heavy dew. After popping a spoke I went over and rode Peddlers, which was fabulous. Need to get my spoke replaced so I can get back out there tomorrow. Need to get over to Candyland since I haven't ridden those sections in a good while.
  8. I highly recommend considering Carbon Fiber for those handles! BTW dude - way to wax poetic!
  9. Been parking my car in the drive forever without incident. Only my wife's car gets the privilege of staying in the garage.
  10. Thanks buddy. Just ordered the Viper 9L for $65.
  11. Your rims are plenty wide for 2.35 or 2.4 tires.
  12. First ride today on my Reverb "goodwill" replacement, which I had installed with a new Wolf Tooth lever by my LBS. Seems that lowering the post is not as smooth as it was with the hydraulic plunger, but it rises much more swiftly now. The ergonomics of the lever is far better than the standard Reverb plunger. Anyway I'm pleased with the change and when this latest Reverb fails, I'll definitely be considering alternatives.
  13. I had been shopping around online for tires and ended up getting great deals on Nobby Nics and Magic Marys. Now though I'm not even sure I want to slap that aggressive MM upfront. Seems I do fine with NN 2.35 on front and back. Been running a Hans Dampf up front, but haven't really noticed any improvements over the NN. Maybe I'll hang on to the MMs for possible future visits to Cat Mountain and Spider Mountain.
  14. Should be a great morning for riding this Fri! I say we do an 8am start from the 183A overpass - anybody else in for this week! Could be my last Fri morning ride for a while as I messed up and got a job. After 8 months sabbatical, I'm finally going back to work, which means I should probably start shopping for a new bike.
  15. What's with the rock placements on Dave's Glitch? Looks like somebody came through and placed a very large rock right in front of the root at the bottom of the g-out, which is directly in the line that I ride through there when heading E-W on Rim. I can't imagine that was helping anybody. I rode over it but it definitely slowed my momentum getting up the other side. Aside from that, it was a glorious day on the trails, especially after finally getting bike #1 back from the shop with a free Reverb replacement.
  16. Let me know if you need help with that.
  17. Thanks for the pro tip! My Fox DOSS mechanical dropper on my backup bike isn't holding air anymore and I've been using the reach-around method to pull it back up. After seeing your post I realized I can just grab it between my legs and yank it up - worked great on my ride today! Once I get my other bike back with the Reverb replacement, I'll see about replacing the seals on the DOSS.
  18. Let me see what I can do. Congrats on the kiddo!
  19. I'm heading out now for a ride but probably won't make it as far east as Gnargasm. I suggest avoiding Mulligan until we can somehow fill in that massive mud hole. It wasn't anywhere near dried out a couple of days ago; so I'm really not sure what it's going to take short of filling it in with rocks. Deception, Rim, Picnic, and Snail have all been primo!
  20. Had mine rebuilt in Feb and it started acting up again a month or so ago. Sent it back to SRAM and they are replacing it with a new one at no cost. I'm setting it up with a Wolf Tooth cable actuated lever, but honestly if I would have had to pay for another rebuild, I would have just replaced it with another brand. Jenson had a RF Turbine listed today on their Cyber Monday ad for $250 which dropped to $212 after applying an additional 15% coupon, but it appears to come without a lever. I was tempted to buy it and have it standing by for the next time my Reverb fails, since the Wolf Tooth lever would work with it as well (minus the special dongle for the Reverb). I checked some reviews though and wasn't impressed with what people were saying about the Turbine. I think the Fox Transfer will be my next post but I haven't really seen any great deals on them.
