  1. Maybe it's your bathing habits.

  2. Went out around 7:15pm for a spin tonight. Ordinarily I don't try to go fast in this oppressive summer heat / humidity, but it was a matter of survival tonight as the horse flies were swarming. Ended up with my third fastest time on 1/4 Notch.

  4. I would respectfully ask that you get to work because there are far more than that. Please report back when they are all taken care of. Chop chop!

  5. In my experience, any measurable rain in July brings them out in droves. If rain halts, they’ll be gone in a few weeks. There is a technique if out running them doesn’t work: (don’t wear bibs, or tight fitting jerseys) Stop. Wave your hands around to keep em off torso and keep a close eye on both legs. Wait for one to land and wait about 1 second. They can’t fly when they’re about to bite. Easy to kill them with a slap. Killed 17 of them once on GB. It’s not fun, but works.

  6. DT Swiss 350. Forget pawls if you produce any wattage.

  7. How is it that I've lived in central Texas my entire life and have never experienced being bit by a fly? Especially considering the amount of time I spend outdoors. Mosquitoes will get me occasionally but even they aren't bad around here. I was out on Sub Ninja yesterday from 6-7pm and didn't see a single fly or mosquito. Maybe I'll hit 1/4 Notch this evening to see what all the fuss is about.

  8. @JRIDER you might consider ChiCarbon with DT Swiss hubs. I've had absurdly good luck with EIE wheels riding a shit-ton of singletrack on Chamois Hagar, and so has @CBaron on his Stache. After 4k miles, my 25.5mm IW wheels running 50mm tires haven't so much as broken a spoke, and have stayed as true as the day I took them out of the box--even though they're not helped by suspension. EIE's 35mm IW wheel would be a great match for 2.6" tires. The only problem is the extended shipping times, and the fact that warranties aren't as good as a US company like NOX or SC. But I'm quite convinced that the actual wheels are every bit as good or better than my DannyMac-approved SC wheels on the 5010. And about 60% of the price.

  9. Yep. Those tiny little gaps cause a bunch of noise when I pedal as the freehub moves slightly with each rotation. It doesn’t seem to effect engagement or coasting. I don’t know if the issues I’ve had are normal (I suspect they are not) but I will say that i9’s customer service continues to be amazing. Despite the problems, I don’t think there is another hub I’d rather own at this point in time.

  10. And it happened again! Ruined another i9 hydra freehub. Called i9 and they had me send them a bunch of pictures. They are sending me another new freehub. This time it will be a modified version that is currently in development. I have to sign an NDA to not disclose exactly what that modification is. You can see there is a small gap between the pawl and the pawl pocket. That is not supposed to happen. Either my legs are producing more watts than this freehub can handle or I just have bad luck…the jury is still out on this one. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  12. When we were in Portugal we drove down the coast from Porto to Lisbon and had lunch around that place. Tons of surfers out, no 100 foot waves, but plenty of action.

  13. Thanks for the offer. Just checked mine and they have 8mm stamped on them (if you trust cheap bars). Since there is practically no rise and minimal sweep I am guessing that this has to be sweep so I should be about the same as yours.

  14. I had no idea how important sweep was until I tried to ride with little to no sweep. My wrists and thumbs were killing me...and the whole reason for togs to exist suddenly made sense. I took the bar on my new bike off and switched to my old bar, and at some point I'll switch to one with even more sweep once supply normalizes.

  15. My sister's wedding rehearsal traditional NE clam bake dinner. I had a lot of those summer ales, but my favorite was this: Footbridge Brewery Double IPA (can't find a shot of it so a link will have to do) https://www.footbridgebrewery.com/beers.php?beer=38 My go-to was the Boothbay Craft Brewery Thirsty Botanist IPA (NE Botanical Gardens are in Boothbay):
