  1. Somewhat related but if you need suspension bearings, I fully recommend RWC (aka Enduro Fork Seals). They list everything by bike and individually. In fact, if your bike isn't listed and you provide all of the correct sizes, they will send you a full set. This is how I rebuild my Mission a few years back. https://www.enduroforkseals.com/products/rear-suspension/suspension-pivot-bearing-kits/
  2. +1m I have the same one. Last time I wore a hip pack was when it was known as a fanny pack. Now I use it for running/hiking/biking. It securely carries a 26oz bottle plus I can put 1 or 2 in my frame. For hotter weather, I shift my riding to spoke and hub and tank up at the car from a cooler.
  3. So aside from the menagerie of critters I saw today. I had a few other things to report. The new stuff AJ has been working on on the South Side of SN is a lot of fun! Balrog and Gandalf I think... The benching on the latest stuff is a little soft so be careful up there but the climbs are super satisfying. Trail conditions where pretty good. Lower stuff was all average, upper fresh stuff was primo. Unfortunately, it looks like we have some rain coming in the next 48 hours, hopefully it will be GTG by the weekend. On a side note, this structure is at the end of the new trail, right above one of the concrete washes. What is it? It's maybe 8-10' tall with a far at the top and bottom. I don't recall seeing there before.
  4. Well, I had a banner day today for critters. I took the day off for a personal matter and ended up finishing early so I went to a quick ride on SN. Check out the new stuff at the south end, it's pretty great! Tons of turtles: A Coral Snake: And I kid you not. A fresh, newborn fawn, chucked itself into the creek and swam across. His mom was on the other side but wouldn't cross. I moved him to a safe spot where hopefully the (circling) vultures wouldn't get him until momma crossed and got to him. See him swimming?
  5. I had an old printer that died on me and I took it to Best Buy. No hassle and real easy. I keep meaning to look at their list of accepted items because I have some more peripherals gathering dust. https://www.bestbuy.com/site/services/recycling/pcmcat149900050025.c?id=pcmcat149900050025
  6. I'm curious what you'll find, secondhand 1up racks are so rare IMO. I'm also in the market since my kids bikes are outgrowing the inside of my car.
  7. Hike the Walsh Hills side of SN this morning. It's drying out surprisingly fast. A no go for riding on the way out, borderline on the way back. Worst spots are near the cul-de-sac. Should be gtg by tomorrow, maybe this evening.
  8. Colin's put together a few bikes, this one is one of his better ones. Could actually be useful for testing different fits for a rider. Enjoy the build or jump to 7:00 in for the finished bike and riding.
  9. All a matter of perspective. This issue does vary throughout Austin and the surrounding areas, some being better than others. That being said, I'm in RR/WillCo and the preparation they've done for future growth and expansion is lightyears ahead of the equivalent areas in Seattle/King Co. Each time a landmark project is completed in Seattle, it's already behind in capacity. Seattle would call the i35 double deck through downtown a major accomplishment if it was completed 3 years from now. Major roads in the suburbs are two lanes and 35mph. Same road here is 4 or 6 lane and 55mph. There's huge geographical factors too but on a whole infrastructure has been well planned in comparison. The next question is will we see it accelerate to match the recent growth rate which has been strong for a while but is increasing. We could easily outpace growth estimates from a few years ago.
  10. Just recently went to that park WITH family and WITHOUT my bike. What an amazing park and what I could see of the trails from the road and various maps it looked pretty fun!
  11. That sounds exactly like what I removed!
  12. I pulled 5 mature shrubs from their beds this weekend. They were dead 90% through. New branches/ growth was beginning not more than 2" from the ground, the roots were probably fine. I might have been able to cut them almost to the dirt and "start over" but my wife and I want to do something else with the bed anyways. My crepes are all slowly coming out, each at a different rate. My largest oak looks good but my three younger ones all show stress, one is that is touch and go. I have no plans to remove it until an arborist declares it a lost cause.
  13. I thought the guy who runs Endura Race, who helped organize the Peddlers Pass race did training/clinics? I did one of his freebies for people who registered for the race, it was excellent and everyone in the class improved their overall times. His voice echoes in my head in every corner of PP. 🤣
  14. I might have spoke too soon. 2 out of 3 of my oaks are budding. One is not... It also has quite a few dead leaves still. Going to be a real shame because who ever planted them only spaced the 3 oaks 3' apart. The middle one is going to look real funny if I have to take one out.
  15. Cross posting in the kids bike building thread. 24" kids MTB tires. More dept store style but I'm sure most kids won't care. I purchased them before finding another set for my kids build.
  16. Cross posting in the PIF thread. 24" kids MTB tires. More dept store style but I'm sure most kids won't care. I purchased them before finding another set for my kids build.
  17. My neighbors Bamboo is about 5' in diameter and 20' tall. During the storm it was bent in half and was touching the ground. 1-week after it looked like nothing had happened. Now a month out it has some dead in it but I'm sure it will survive... Glad it's across the street. Those things ignore fences.
  18. I'm not familiar with all species of Laurels but past experience with English laurels I had to cut it flush to the ground, drill holes in the stump and fill with roundup to have a hope of actually killing it. I had one that was bigger than my car cut back to a stump twice and it returned to size in under 10 years.
  19. My yards a mixed bag. Grass is about a month behind. Big live oak is pushing out lots of new buds 3 smaller oaks are budding too! unknown. There seems to be a variety that is either completely hit or is just late to the party. Small century plants took a hit but after trimming frostbite its recovering well. My smallest crepe myrtle is budding in the middle, larger ones are MIA for now. Three big shrubs that I was hoping to replace eventually seemed to have jumped my timing and look completely dead.
  20. I have yet to encounter a venomous snake while riding Austin trails, I know it's a very real possibility. I did once encounter a rattler while on a moto ride in Cave Creek, AZ. The lead rider must have spooked/angered him because I turned the corner and there he was coiled and ready. I gassed it right passed him and he went for my bike. I felt him glance off my boot as I rode past. Moto-X boots are almost 1/4" of hard plastic and leather so there was no risk. If the situation was on MTBs, I doubt it would have played out the same because of the speeds involved. I probably would have had more time to see/stop before passing him.
  21. I have a few century/ aloe type plants where I had to remove lots of frosbit foliage but I read that as long as the "crown"/ center of the plant is ok, it will recover. I have other plants that look like death. I trimmed off to encourage new growth if the plant isn't 100% dead. Now, it's wait and see. I had a close friend who is also a city arborist come look at my live oaks after the storm, here's a few takeaways. Oaks are tough, short of oak wilt, they are very hardy. Live oaks go through "Leaf exchange" around Feb/March, I've noticed it every year because I have to "vacuum" the leaves every spring to keep the grass uncovered. This year does seem, earlier, quicker and heavier. IMO, I bet the ice accelerated this. That being said, I've had years where it happened so abruptly that I swore one of my trees died. Then a week later it looked like nothing happened. Leaf Exchange:https://preservationtree.com/blog/is-this-oak-wilt-disease-or-normal-leaf-drop
  22. https://www.snakesox.com/ I don't even know what to say... I want a pair but is it really effective? Admit it, you miss him.
  23. Purchased for kids build in search of shorty grip shifter grips. Yours for the low price of free.
