  1. “Galvanize” the Titus! Or maybe some type of acid etching. That would look super sick on a rat rod build. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  2. I may have a non rusty pair of retro diamond back or GT/Dyno bars lying around. Also, I have a gyro 2 for tandem Barspins. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  3. Book air bnb Call ahead to Downieville outfitters and get yourself on 9 am and 1 or 3 oclock shuttles with a rental bike in your size. Fly in to Sacramento: Get tiny rental car for 30 per day. Drive to Downieville. Blow your mind. If you want to take you bike, go for it, but there is no need. Send your bike to Downieville outfitters if you must have your own bike. 5. Also most likely probably in for Thumper Thursdays. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  6. My normal XC training, which is riding the bike whenever I can and occasional structured workouts with a power meter. I shoot for a Minimum of 7 hours of moving Time each week on the bike. I’ll do everything I need to at least get that. That may mean smaller rides and twice a day rides. I also take my bike to the store for errands and carry it, but I don’t log these tiny rides. I’ve also cut sugars and snacks and continue to lose weight. With the rain I have had many days on the streets repeating the nastier street hills and getting acquainted again with the pacing of those climbs. Weekends I’ve gotten some long road 50-70 mi rides in on the MTB. I’ve also been lucky enough to travel to MTB destinations during this rain and get massive amounts of riding in. Leading up to it, I will ride every day (7-10day block) to build stress in the body as then taper off the week of with an easy day and two rest days later in the week leading up. Then I will carb the F up on Friday! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  8. I grew up in the Nintendo era. We had Awesome games from the age of 6 on. We would slay away on Zelda, then my parents would get on it after we went to bed and be confused as to while the world map had been inverted. I could list all of the amazing games we had all the way to Gran Turismo and eventually Grand Theft Auto through college. Every hour of video game play had more hours spent outside doing awesome stuff. Athletic people will always want to play competitive sports and might enjoy beating their friends up in a game, but soon will venture outside. My mom would always tell us to "take a break and go outside" and we would go out and explore and do stuff until it was so hot we had to come in for some koolaid and a little debbie. These two things are what it comes down to. Shut-ins will always be shut-ins, and parents need to grow a pair and tell their kids when to take a break.
  9. Riding from 360 to mopac on spicewood is going south. That climb is steep but only 200 feet. The base of big view is so steep you will want a run up to it. Try not to get off the bike because unlike most hills, it mostly gets easier the further you go...kinda. Its easy to hit 50 mph on the way down. (Which is speeding) but you may want to loop it and “descend” river place BLVD. Which is rolling hills.
  10. Tough hills, but not even close to the size of big view You talking about spice wood riding towards mopac and or valburn? There are lots of 300 foot climbs in the neighborhood between cat mountain and spicewoood springs rd. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  11. Just go ride loops in Riverplace. Sick street descending and climbing. I think that may be the longest bottom to top climb in town at over 500 feet on Big view. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  13. http://www.degraylake.org/iron-mountain/ They had marathon Nationals there the last two years and there is an annual stop on the Enduro. 21 mile trail that is well marked. you can ride it forward and backwards for a different trail experience and 42 miles of unique trail. Its also easy to split up into Multiple 10 mile blocks. https://www.trailforks.com/region/iron-mountain-3734/?lat=34.219770&lon=-93.073742&z=12&m=trailforks
  14. Good to know. I have never seen a single person camping there when I have gone and there has been tons of RV availability. I would give them a call. There are some VERY cheap and NICE air bnb as well in prime location just above ozone.
  15. Thats my work commute route: Zilker> right on Rollingwood > straight on Old walsh Tarlton> right and ride under walsh tarlton to Pinnacle > left on Westbank to 360/scotishwoods. Its pretty much steady climbing the whole way other than the stretch of downhill on rolling wood. Almost 5 miles and 700 feet. Its a very bike friendly route with little interruption.
  16. I'm pretty sure you camp right in the mix in Blowing springs which puts you in the middle of a sweet trail system and a few hundred yards form the start of the Back 40. https://www.goodsam.com/campgrounds-rv-parks/arkansas/bella-vista/blowing-springs-rv-park-201301143/
  17. Dude, Drive to Tyler state park, Camp and ride in the beauty, then head a few more hours over to Iron mountain and repeat. The only problem is Tyler is a texas state park and may have limited availability. Both of these places are really neat with their iron packed soil and rocks.
  18. In additions to the places mentioned, Iron Mountain is awesome riding, and you can reasonably drive to it (6 hours) and ride in the same day. You can stay in a cabin or camp (maybe) on the lake in that park or at a cheap hotel in town. Staying in that park would be an entirely different experience. There is enough trail there to ride it both directions and get your fill in a weekend. You can also make a short drive up to some of the other trails near bye. I like this option because it is close enough to drive and ride in the same day. You can even tube in case you cant get your hands on a PWC.
  19. There is not really a way to know that these things are frowned upon when one first gets into riding. 4 years ago, I was on my 250 dollar used hardtail with a walmart skater style brain bucket in the middle of august in my Gym shorts and minimalist running shoes. I occasionally forgot my helmet when I would first go into the GB but only 1-2 times ever. I rode an trail or two in the mud and had a blast until the bike clogged, I may have even nicely stacked a rock or two against a "gigantic" 20 inch ledge thinking I was doing a service to people who rode bikes. (I'd come back to find the rocks gone and got the point). Look at me now? I'm a lycra wearing fool telling everyone to put on a helmet, riding up walls, and tossing stacked rocks into the creek. Think of these folks as future mountain bikers who just dont know yet. There is so much about our sport which isnt publicly available knowledge, such as "which is better: riding through the puddle or around the puddle. " If you just tossed everyone the key to a car, how would they know what to do without signs and training classes?
  20. Oh man, I would ride all over that thing and never touch the HOL. I am not sure if I am allowed to refer to those trails by name. I can send you a strava route or PM you. FYI, I just looked out the window and its raining on the greenbelt, that or an extremely dense fog. Either way, the rocks are slippery today. and will need 1 day of sun.
  21. Nice ride! You are 150? That energy estimate on courtyard is pretty interesting. Is that for just 360 - CP road? I did a simlar ride this weekend on the Mountain bike. Strava estimated my calories at 4000 which is aggressive. This was a much flatter route without any widowmaker climbs. It was much easier to keep HR low than the ride you did(which was harder). Preride: PEC Breakfast Taco and black coffee During: 64 OZ gatorade + water mix, some extra salt, Redbull at mile 40, 300 Calories of Cliff Gu blocks Distance 68 mi Elevation Gain 2,635 ft Time 4h 28m
  22. North side of GB Eds is one of the fastest draining and drying areas. CP has had puddles for days from what I can tell.
  23. Are you repping Evil or GG? It would be entertaining if you raced for "Cracked Carbon Repair of Austin" on the results.
  24. I would think there would be no problem riding Back 40 the day after the race. Its a marathon race, so most people will have had their fill and will not head out to the back 40 for a full loop on Sunday. There will probably be plenty of people preriding the day before the race which is not necessarily a bad thing, unless you are slow and dont like talking to mountain bikers. 😉 Edit: I see the pro race is on Sunday. I would not worry about this since the pro start is at 8:40. They hit the Back 40 clockwise at the blowing springs entrance at mile 10 of their race which will be well under an hour. I would think that you would be good to enter in there by 10 and start riding counter clockwise. If for some reason you wanted to ride it counter- clockwise, I would park near Gainford Drive and go from there after 12. I would hope the course would be all clear from there or else someone is having a real bad day. You would also be good to ride blowing springs that day too. Though I would not be surprised if there were some parking challenges in blowing springs that weekend due to the race, so you may ride in from teh street near the hospital or park elsewhere as mentioned. I rode to blowing springs/back 40 from downtown and thats a big day on the bike. make sure to have a beer and check out the fat tire crit on Friday afternoon. This is a Pro only event. They have to do a street/dirt race. Its rung what you brung (you can swap any tires) and you have to do a 3 lap Criterium street race on your Mountain bike you race on Sunday. There could be some singletrack in the street loop to make things spicy for folks who put full slicks on their MTB.
