  1. That's one reason why I'm not going back in, especially with the Delta variant on the rise. I did hear that there is a plan afoot to require employees to supply proof of vaccination, but I wonder if that is even legal.
  2. Anyone lose a GoPro out at Brushy? Much like the tale of Ozymandias, where a person meets another person who saw some stuff out in the desert, I met a person who knows a person who found a GoPro at Brushy. There were a couple pics on it - see below.
  3. They should be made to wear some sort of insignia, identifying them as .... wait, hang on.
  4. Most .380s or derringers will fit in a standard top tube bag. Otherwise - this in a jersey pocket: https://www.kevinsconcealment.com/pages/pocket-holster-wallet-style
  5. There was quite the discussion on the Houston Gravel Grinders FB page a few months ago, when some Cali-transplant posted up that he expected no one in his group rides to be carrying, and consequently discovered that half the people in his group rides were carrying, and he was welcome to piss off back to Cali.
  6. It's like a case study into the human pysche, although I suppose governments are involved as well. I don't actually know if rollout in Australia was slow, due to the low case count, or if vaccines have been available but few bothered to get them. I know some Aussies over there - I shall enquire.
  7. I was astonished to learn the other week that only 3% of Australians have been fully vaccinated. Despite the apparent shitshow in the USA, and the wait times we all thought were a nuisance, other countries are far worse off - many of them developed nations. 8. I can only imagine that riding Thumper at this time of year must be like descending into Hades -- having said that, the downed trees in Thumper usually get cleared just prior to the EB. I'm not aware that much work goes on at other times - especially during mid-summer. However, if you are volunteering ....
  9. The reason given - I believe - is a shortage of lifeguards, but at the same time we have people on Nextdoor saying their kids are lifeguards and haven't been offered the hours.
  10. I saw a thread on Nextdoor today about our local Rosedale pool not opening this summer, despite assurances that it would. PARD following along on their strategy that taxpayers actually wanting to use facilities they pay for is just too damned annoying. At this rate, we won't even need a Parks Dept.

Guess I'm going to load a chainsaw next time I head up that way, and if it's still there, I'll see what I can do. It'll take more than one person, that's for sure - it's the entire trunk, not a branch.
  12. Good suggestion - Leslie is in fact my neighbor. What's your strategy for a mid-ride dip? Do you fully submerge and carry on in wet chammys?
  13. Back in the day, I put on a couple of races which started in Flat Creek and connected thru to Ped Falls - full laps of both. I bet my padlock is still on that gate which connects the properties 🙂
  14. I just wish the Director of PARD were an elected position, instead of the next COA lifer sitting out their days until pension, and making life easier for themselves by removing facilities and reducing the amount of time and money spent maintaining things. I emailed the previous Director when she removed the picnic tables and trash cans from Walnut, and was told it was "for safety reasons". What utter bullshit!
  15. Typical PARD m.o. - if something exists which pesky park users appreciate - trash cans, picnic tables, outdoor shower - then remove em.
  16. Last time I was at Trek Guadalupe, they were shooting for 24 hour turnaround times.
  17. Indeed - and there’s a lot to be said for helping your LBS to stay in business. Can you imagine a world where there are no bike shops left, and you have to get your ride drop-shipped from a big box store?
  18. Not that fast. I'm not planning on spending $800k on a small two bedroom home.
  19. That, and more. I change out my spare tube every six months, whether it needs it or not. I want it to inflate if I ever actually need it to.
  20. I have Schwalbe Fat Franks on my urban Monocog - been very pleased with em.
  21. It's been that way for the last couple of years - sales at that location were always poor, so Hill walled it off and was looking to sub-lease it. I imagine Trek's deeper pockets are paying the full rent at this point.
  22. Working on my plans now - however, the final two weeks of July are looking busy, workwise. I was thinking of flying in for the first couple of weeks of August - get a few Crest rides in, etc.
