  1. You didn't recognize the second "etc"? You were there 😉 Please don't shut off my internet.!.!. How will I get my usual dose of Mojo? Or its replacement?
  2. I thought it was two for one pricing this weekend. But now - https://pamleblancadventures.com/spider-mountain-bike-park-suspends-operations-during-pandemic/?fbclid=IwAR3_cyKkNTVOLZ4GoBIBWSTJXX4g9RxhtKOLDW7pONtUF8RnewWcaD6ylQg
  3. I would dare to say it will be done again. Or is that it is being done right now??? Only the Shadow knows. https://www.google.com/url?sa=i&source=imgres&cd=&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=2ahUKEwij7uXdoKfoAhVEQKwKHV8kB2MQjRx6BAgBEAQ&url=https%3A%2F%2Fimgur.com%2Fgallery%2Fq42cT&psig=AOvVaw2mB1l84VWOVpM39W2ZmagU&ust=1584731920110240
  4. That is an EXCELLENT article. Thanks!
  5. This needs to be said and repeated again and again. But I think it applies to most everything that requires skill, knowledge and professionalism. That includes doctors, lawyers, teachers, mechanics, tech support etc etc etc.
  6. I think the key is one of the things said in the video First-Blood posted - "You do you." So people use the same technique for jumps and drops. Some people even 'pre-jump' a drop. Some people seem to have a different technique for every single feature. As long is they like what they are doing they should keep doing it. The other key point is to start small and build up so you learn the technique and speed you need for each feature.
  7. I bet I do. email me at <mojo handle> at gmail (Upper left of this post. I bet you can figure out how to make that work.)
  8. I want to warn riders who don't normally ride things like this. I'm pretty sure the video does not show the rider launching - but he does. The video appears to show it just as he becomes visible, At least I think I can see him lifting. So be warned - don't just hit a drop like this with a lot of speed. Learn to launch. There are lots of good videos on Youtube like this -
  9. Barry and Txduc - you guys are making my point. Until this weekend there had to be major effort toward the Pace Bend Race. That was a hard date that had to be met. Then this weekend that effort was gone. Do we get those hours back so we can point them to Reimers? No. Maybe somebody can tell us the magic chant on how to do that. And now most peoples' focus is off of trails, trail work or even riding. Somehow they think there is some kind of major event happening that demands their attention. And even if they themselves don't, most have a wife, girlfriend, mother or employer who is demanding their attention be focused elsewhere. I am certain these new trails will happen and be available for everyone. Sometime soon. How soon? I don't know - I hear my wife calling right now. But you can trust me because I heard it from an un-named source. Evidence free.
  10. Rumor has it that ARR is trying to deal with many competing issues. Somethings like weather and available time / people / tools are always a problem. Somethings like the Pace Bend Race are problems competing for those resources. Some new things are complicating those issues. Like with the park be open? Would a work day be allowed? Can signs be made (are sign makers open for business) Stay tuned for updates as updates become available. In the mean time - go ride your bike. Outdoors. Solo ride. Don't listen to the news. Be careful who you believe. After all, this post is from a non-official quoting un-named sources.
  11. I am not arguing with you Chief - I think we are actually in agreement. I don't think you are over reacting - I think the public in general is over reacting. And I think they are reacting to what they are being fed by the news media. I addressed staying away from others in my post above. We can argue forever about if this is worse than common cold/flu. My point is that it does not matter. If people have no immunity to it - the virus will spread like crazy. Well over 90% of people (according to most data) people will get it and recover. But some people will get it and not recover. I think it is the responsibility of everyone to do what we can - within reason - to limit the spread especially to those people who may not recover. With this I am signing off. I have said my piece. Everyone can do what they want. I cannot control what others do. I can only control how I react to what others do.
  12. I have been avoiding saying much for a while now but this getting to be too much for me to take. This rant is based on very little education, research, training or knowledge. This is what I think is common sense. The current virus is new. The best I can find is that the first known patient was in China in November 2019. That is a matter of months ago. It spread like crazy because it is a "new" virus. People don't have an immunity to it - yet. There is no vaccine - yet. Even the test had to be developed in the months since it was "discovered". I don't have a feel for if it spread faster or slower than other "new" viruses but I don't think it matters. The way people move around the globe these days means it spread easily and quickly. People are dying from it. From what I can tell, the fatality rate is not far off the fatality rate of many common viruses. News stories make it sound like if you test positive you might as well attempt suicide because you have a better chance of surviving. The same news stories say that, so far, the fatalities have all be elderly or people with compromised health. Young and / or healthy people are recovering just like they recover from the flu or colds. Wait didn't the early news reports that this virus WAS in the same family at the cold / flu???? What should we do???? You should do what you want. I intend to live as I always have. Be healthy. That includes riding and exercising. Washing my hands. Keeping my body and my environment clean and healthy as I can within reason. (I will not do a daily Lysol scrub of my house / car / bike / etc.) I will avoid people who appear to be sick. I will try to stay away from other when I feel sick. All of these are things I normally do. What do I change? My 401K is getting "rebalanced". (stock broker way of saying I am taking advantage of panic selling.) I am looking at things with a longer term view than most people appear to be. I think this will pass in a matter of months. After all - China is reported to have closed the last temporary hospital because the patients have recovered. Maybe people will learn from it. IMHO, they will not. And there will be similar opportunities again soon. But the biggest thing I change is to quarantine. I will quarantine myself from the hysteria that plays on the news in the current 24 hour news media. My wife keeps pointing out that with 24 hour news on many different channels, they all have to out "hysteria" each other to attract audience. And that is where I think the problem is originating. That is the true "patient zero". Anyway - this post is just my opinion and it is worth what you paid for it.
  13. I know things like that were shown in the news and on the internet. But please check my math - $500 million divided by 330 million people in the USA (google reported) gives each of us in the USA about $1.60 each. That is ONE dollar and sixty cents. You know what they say - "they can't put in the internet if it *IS* true..." or something like that.
  14. I saw reports it was not a broken leg. It was a leg impaled on a broken off branch pointed at the trail. Rider was reported to have not even fallen into the "spear", but was impaled as he rode by. Heard they ended up cutting the branch off the tree and left it in his leg while getting him to the hospital. Let's be careful what kind of things we leave behind on the trail. Best to CUT branches back to the trunk (preferred) or back to a branch collar.
  15. Best of luck on your surgery AustinBike.
  16. Two words - Game Cameras. I think there are some available.
  17. I talked with the Wilco Parks staff about this park a few years back (see names Rugger posted on page 144 about the Brushy Creek 5-O closure thread). I was told in no uncertain terms that Wilco wanted NO trails in that area. They said we could ride the existing double track becasue they already exist but no other areas. They wanted ZERO single track or new trails. I was told that Wilco was counting that area as preserve area (think Wilco version of BCP). They were not interested in allowing the double track to be maintained either. (clearing face slappers and such). In my opinion - making new trails, riding, Strava'ing, Trail Fork'ing etc in this area my endanger other trails in that area. Like Brushy Creek Singletrack (aka Deception). I suggest riding what we already enjoy and leaving this area alone. But I no longer have a stake in this area so it is somebody else's problem.
  18. That is *EXACTLY* what was intended. The green loop (Great Escape) is intended for everybody. There are still some mildly technical spots but not too technical for a newer or younger rider. I don't feel bad about a new rider walking about 100 feet of a roughly five mile loop. We still need to built three bypasses for the remaining technical climbs on Great Escape. Someday. Hopefully soon.
  19. Hmmmm. All of the sticker were installed. I wonder if someone pulled the stickers off...
  20. Mack-turtle - I suggest asking again closer to the date. Hopefully, a lot has been cleaned up between now and mid April. But there will ALWAYS be more work needed.
  21. Well said HoneyBadger. It amazes me what some people think is OK. Riding closed trails is very high on the list to things that make us all look bad.
  22. That web site does not get updated often. Workday are posted at www.meetup.com. I think you have to sign up for a free account to view. (I turned off emails so they don't spam me.)
  23. So tell - which way is "backwards"? ( I think it is the way I am not riding.)
  24. No. Ride with people who know to learn. Otherwise - guess.
  25. This needs to be from an official source - which I am no longer. But that rarely stops me from speaking up... This project is happening in several parts. The heavy machine work will be completed first. After that will be hand work to finish the work done by the machines. The hand work will be done (mostly) by volunteer labor. It is not a good idea to have volunteers working along side heavy machines. Also the "Return Trail" will be built with all volunteer labor. Fortunately the Return Trail is much much easier to complete than the Flow Trail. Expect to see work day calls in the near future. I hope we can have it finished and open to the public some time in April. But I am no longer the one making those decisions.
