  1. If it's yellow, we already let it mellow.
  2. I just asked if you have used the tool since you guys were discussing effective STA from a picture. nevermind
  3. Have you guys used imagej? I started using it for my bike fits. I capture video of myself on the trainer with some joint markers, then get snapshots from the video and measure angles. https://imagej.nih.gov/ij/
  4. There are also individuals that buy junk bikes and refurbish them and they have a lot of bikes to sell. They'll be the ones in front of the white garage doors.
  5. I remember other stalled projects like this...at some point people just take back their trail and go around or even cut the fences. (totally not supporting that, for the record) I've been surprised that the barriers still seem intact. Thankfully we have an easy alternate route using the old paved trail entering from Duval, or even from under Duval on the other side.
  6. Galvanic anodic potential difference will result in that corrosion: https://www.engineersedge.com/galvanic_capatability.htm Putting some zinc somewhere on that frame may have prevented that. Also, aluminum water bottle screws and washers (with lots of anti-seize on them).
  7. Small little pump track for my kids and I...been working on and off on it for 3 years. I have the wrong kind of dirt, on a slope. Erosion is a bitch!
  8. Honeybadger, I have some drainage stuff my wife keeps asking me to get rid of. It's I think 3 of those instant french drain tubes and I also have a dry well as well as some drains. I bought them for the pump track in my backyard but I ended up doing something completely different. Let me know if you can use them.
  9. Bike shops. Similarly with educating pet owners about leash laws and poop hygiene: veterinary clinics and pet stores.
  10. +1 When I was right out of college, I used to pretty much watch sports all day Saturday, and sometimes all weekend. I'd watch any NCAAF game on Saturday, SCCA World Challenge Racing, BTCC (remember when Speedvision carried that?), Formula Mazda, F1 (all the sessions). Shoot, I used to race RC cars all weekend, sitting in a parking lot somewhere, then moved onto real racing cars. Sold the race car in '09, tried Autocross, which was fun, but again, a whole day invested for so little actual driving time. First there's buying a house, getting married, then kids. That's when all that free time goes away. I think I'd watch more sports if my kids were into them, but they really don't sit still for very long. We'll watch the Longhorns play if it's on regular TV (because F cable/satellite and the greedy bastards behind them), and Golden State if the game is on early (my youngest loves GS). These days, free time is spent riding or wrenching (or working on home projects). Sports watching is a luxury, and many times I have it on while I'm doing something else (really need to upgrade our single 12 year old TV, so I can move the old one to the garage.) The kids have their sports, and I'm really trying to get them into MTB racing. The old one is not interested in trail riding, but the young one is a natural. I can see us doing TMBRA sprint series in the spring as a family. @ATXZJ I used to watch recorded football games on DISH in 45 minutes. the 20 second forward button was perfect to skip all the dead time between plays. That's one thing soccer has figured out better than football. How to get your advertising done without breaking for commercial, and keeping the game moving.
  11. I think that's what people have started to do in the low spot at Mulligan, the problem being that more dirt keeps washing down. So in some cases, I think improving drain down slope will fix the problem. In other longer flat areas, I was thinking ladder bridges, but I am guessing that wood features are a big no-no.
  12. DD was actually less slick than 1/4 notch yesterday afternoon. Also, the mud holes seem to have solid rock bottom if you ride to the middle. I’m thinking moving the dirt off would get rid of the problem. We are talking about 2-3” of dirt.
  13. Riding 1/4 notch and DD yesterday (sweating my ass off! ugh that was humid), I wondered about what it would take to make the trails rideable right after rain. It seems like there are the trouble spots that take a while to dry (like 1/4 notch start on the east side) but the rest seems impervious to rain other than the usual mud holes.
  14. I tend to do that if I don't find satisfactory answers to "why?"
  15. Penny Farthings are like unicycles with training wheels.
  16. Thanks guys for the replies. Though I don't believe I've resolved my problem, I have additional findings: My disk was down to 1.43mm. New is 1.8mm and min spec is 1.5mm. I replaced it, but that by itself didn't fix it. My pads were only worn down 0.5mm each. That's down to 3.5mm (backing plate included) from 4mm new. One of the YouTube videos showed a master cylinder bleed wherein he flicks the lever to get bubbles out. Other videos showed them rotating the master cylinder to different angles to get the bubbles out. I tried the same, and lo-and-behold, tons more bubbles came out. I have the new disk and new pads installed and I haven't gone back to the 3.5mm pads yet to see if they'll work OK, but I will at some point. @crazyt, yep, that's what I meant. The Shimano instructions, as well as several YouTube videos show step 1 is pushing fluid up to the master cylinder (with funnel installed) from the caliper, then letting it drain back down. Regarding the lever throw, that's another good possibility for me to try. Maybe my shortened throw makes bleeding harder. I'll experiment a bit more with this later. @Anita Handle , as to the recall, my search for this showed it's different brake models that were recalled. I'll still call Shimano next week (after my race) to see if they have more info or any recalls not published. The forums out there did seem to imply XT and XTR brakes were affected. I did some math to calculate how much master cylinder travel goes to displace the volume from pad and disk wear. About 6.6mm before replacing my parts was just to make up for the wear. That's pretty significant, especially with shortened throw setup in my lever.
  17. It depends. Some people obviously have the type that allow you to hear outside noise and probably have it at a low enough volume to hear what's going on around them. But I've run into folks that had no idea I was trying to pass them, bell, politely asking, then flat out yelling didn't work. On top of that, not riding or running predictably is a problem. If you're going to blast your music, stay to the right so people can at least safely pass you when the opportunity arises. Most people with headphones and earbuds are great. They're very aware of what's going on. I'd rather people wear earbuds than those loudspeakers TBH.
  18. Yeah, weather station close to Thumper shows 0.8in last night.
  19. Cody, we had really high wind gusts in the area. I expect there will be some downed trees.
  20. I'm hoping someone here can help me out to tell me if I should just change my brakes. A little background: I've been doing brake jobs on my cars for 30 years. That includes a few years of racing and regular brake bleeds. I've also used and serviced Hope Race X2 brakes with no issues whatsoever. I've had older XT brakes that I never had to touch as well. But these XTR brakes keep giving me a problem. Online searches result in one of two things: defective brakes (recall by Shimano) or bubbles. I really don't think my problem is bubbles because a good bleed doesn't fix the problem. I have removed the caliper and let it hang under the lever for maximal pressure differential. I've pumped up with a syringe, and down in the traditional way. With the block in place, they feel solid. Here's the tricky bit: The thinner my disk or pads get, the worse this problem is. When I switch to one wheel with my thinnest disk, and with maybe 50% worn pads, I get zero brake no matter how many times I pump the lever. If I put some new pads in, the brakes feel solid. It seems to have to do with maybe longer travel being required in the master cylinder. Pumping the lever results in the pads going in and going back out. I'm thinking of just grabbing the Hope X2's from my other bike for my race next weekend, but it is bugging me that I can't get these brakes to work well with anything but 75% to 100% new pads.
