  1. With 3 bikes on it you thought it looked crazy and scary, so you decided to put 4 bikes on it. ...I think I know why your stuff keeps breaking. 🙂
  2. Oh, and yeah, I love the quick lace system on my Salomon trail runners. I don’t ever want to have to tie my shoes again. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  3. My Specialized Rimes have a single Boa and two lower velcro straps. I have wrecked one of them on a rock and Boa sent me a two pack replacement for free. So now I always carry a spare buckle in my camelbak (see the odd things in camelbak thread). They’re easy to replace and easy to fine tune the fit of my shoes. I’m a fan. 4. I bought a Hero3+ Black edition a couple months ago with multiple cases for $100. I’m actually thinking about selling it again and moving up to a 4+ so that I can have ProTune. The 3+ does have great audio and the video is decent enough but harder to color correct in post. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  5. I was going for tire knobs. If there’s interest, then it can be further developed. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  6. I carry a spare BOA ratchet for my shoes, spare UST valve stem, and a cassette lockring tool. I was once on a ride and my shifting was way out of wack and making crazy noises. It turned out that somehow I hadn't tightened my cassette enough and it had back out so much that it was starting to slide around on the hub. Luckily someone had one in the parking lot and I was able to restart the ride. It's a relatively heavy tool to carry along, but I'll probably never leave home without it now.
  7. I just got back from being there this past weekend. That place is awesome. You need a week to ride everything there. They're adding trail all the time and Trailforks just can't keep up. Find a local that can show you around. The town is kind of a mini-classic-Austin. Very family friendly, an emerging hipster/creative element, great food and beer, and enough retail/commercial development to keep it from feeling like a small country town. The traffic is way better though.
  8. FSA K-Force bar on my hardtail (bought the bike used and the bar came with it) standard 3K weave carbon at least on the outside. Easton Haven bar on my Blur that I bought new has a unidirectional finish layer, not sure about the inside layers. Both bars have been great and the K-Force is now on my sons little project bike. While a M3 bolt looks tiny it's still fully capable of tightening a clamp beyond the torque specs for the bar. ALWAYS use a torque wrench when mounting parts to carbon. And yes, I prefer to use a beam style torque wrench. Unless of course you prefer to keep your levers loose so that they rotate in the event of a crash. There are so many people running carbon bars out there with zero issues, and I would argue that they are by far the majority. Like most things they can fail. It's a calculated risk. Glad you're ok.
  9. The riding is totally unstructured and informal. There's usually a group of us that start to gather around 5:30 and depending on who's there we'll head out around 5:45-6ish. Who's leading usually determines wether or not it's race pace or slow and social.
  10. I've often wondered what was really happening to my body when I pushed myself that hard. It felt like my digestive system had shut down. I had no appetite, and could only drink a little at a time. I was seriously crampy, and had absolutely no energy. I wanted to puke so bad but I couldn't. The strange thing was I was totally fine the next day. I felt like I could go for another ride. It sounds like what you describe when talking about not being able to dispose of the lactic acid build up. It's the worst I've ever felt in my life.
  11. crazyt, I don't think you meant to quote me.
  12. I said earlier in the thread that I’ve done it 2.3 times. That’s because my third time was when I had a 6 month old and didn’t feel like I could be gone all day (takes me 12hrs to finish). So I did what I call the breakfast platter. I rode to Walnut from home, rolled out with everyone and did the BCGB portion. Then I rode the route towards City Park, but I stopped at the shopping center at Bee Caves rd where I had left my car the night before. Yeah I could’ve gone farther of course, but I got in a good ride and enjoyed the camaraderie. The year before I trained some beforehand and set the goal of completing it in 12hrs and riding every climb (HOL, Courtyard, City Park, Jester, St. Ed’s, Youpon, and even the last awful climb out of Thumper). I did it. Came in around 11hrs 50ish min. But I’ve never felt closer to death than I did while finishing Walnut. I bonked so hard. I couldn’t eat anything, felt nauseous, and my calves and thighs would immediately cramp up if I pointed my feet down. I rolled in to mulch island, got my photo with the plate and pink fork and then promptly was driven home by my wife before having some soup and going to bed. Totally worth it! Refusing to quit or planning ahead to quit. Either one works. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  13. If you think orange seal dried up earlier than Stan’s, you’re probably not using the endurance formula and that’s the best stuff. No tire boogers rattling around and I haven’t flatted in forever. Seriously don’t remember the last time. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  14. I’ve done it 2.3 times. Right now for me the idea of doing it this fall seems even more impossible than it did my first time in ‘10. I would be interested to see what route could be created that involved less road miles. But, to me the cool thing about the EB was that I can say that I’ve ridden Walnut, a good chunk of BCGB, Emma Long, St. Ed’s, and Thumper (well, kinda) all in one day and I never drove a car. Throw on top of that the claim that I also road up HOL, Courtyard, City Park Rd, Jester, and Youpon in between the trails and I still feel like that’s a pretty awesome achievement. My wife still can’t wrap her head around the fact that I’ve done it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  15. I did a day in Sedona but it was with the family and we spent the whole day gift shopping. I was even planning to drive in to town down Schnebly Hill Rd, but that got nixed. No Sedona dirt for me this time. I’ll be back. We have friends with an awesome Airbnb in Flag so this was just the first journey out there. I’m headed to Bentonville next weekend, so maybe I’ll see if I can post a more concise edit when I return. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  16. That place is seriously fun. I need a redo of Hobbit Forest because I feel like I could do it faster now than when I was running it blind. I guess that goes for the whole trail though. It was over too fast. I could have used two more shuttles up to the top. But that climb though…thought I was going to pass out. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  17. You just captured a multiday trip in just under 8min. I couldn't get my under 2hr ride edited down to less than 30min. 😛
  18. I love that I derailed this in to a retro nostalgia thread. [emoji13] Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  19. I give GotDurt credit for this, my first bike video. Flagstaff riding is awesome. Thanks for the trail info (and your Flagstaff videos). ...and yes. It's WAY TOO LONG, and I don't have a gimbal. I'm not trying to start a channel.
  20. I could put those to use. Specifically want the like new Goma and the ADVantages.
  21. Hutchinson Pythons 26x2.0 Hope Mono Minis Go tubeless Clipless pedals. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  22. Rider in front of you has a rear facing seat post cam or rear facing helmet cam. Or, you session stuff and pick the best take. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
