  1. 12-15 years ago that area was slowly becoming the go to destination for biking vacations. It was all over all the bike rags. Then when all the kidnapping crap started along the border all stories about it just died. Always sounded like a great destination. The trouble was just in getting there. 2. When they did the section up to the neighborhood by the deception entrance they had silt fencing and barriers. These guys were playing fast and loose and paid the price.
  3. I need to go checkout RedHorn/Peddlers. Don't know why I thought it ran close to Parmer instead of along that little creek. Seems like a good starting point for a night ride once you know the trail!
  4. Bet they don’t leave it wide open this time! [emoji38] Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  5. Hermosa is above Purgatory ski resort, not really in Durango. The horse gulch system in town is a blast, and the test track area across from downtown is pretty fun too. There’s a downhill that takes the pucker factor to 11 if you know how to find it! You can also do a great ride up the end of the Colorado trail in town past Gudy’s rest and back down to Lightner creek road via the dry fork trail. Hermosa WAS for the view only and i heard most of that area burnt last year. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  6. It was all good when I rode this morn. Was starting to get pretty packed when I headed out around noon. I don’t know who’s doing some of the maintenance out there, but you have to watch out for some of the holes from them “fixing” it. The long downhill after mark’s art has a deep square edged “fix” right at the bottom. Almost ate it on a night ride last week. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  7. Honestly, I don’t know what hermosa is going to look like after the big fire there. It used to be a beautiful ride, but it’s one long down followed by one long climb back out. Phil’s is a lot of zig zagging all around a mesa that is open pinion pine country. The last section is roller coaster fun! If I had to rate “ride” I’d do Phil’s over hermosa, but Hermosa is a lot different than the Horse Gulch area in town in Durango. Squeak it all in, each of the 3 is different and worth it! 8. Definitely worth it. And it’s not much more of a drive than driving up to Hermosa Creek. Go check out Mesa Verde NP too. You drive right by the entrance. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  9. Yep. At 51st St over to the Y and should link into the SWC trail spur in the Y parking lot. Mostly done, just needed railing it looked like. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  10. I parked at the Y this morn for the first time in months. Total PITA, I’ll stick with the Tennis Center on Johnny Morris til the road construction is done. That is one hell of a nice ped crossing over 183 they’re building at the Y. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  11. Used the new low water crossing in Guerrero Park this morn. Thanks Albert! Going from SWC trail when you turn left off shady lane onto the bike path on 5th at the spot you cross over 5th on the bike path there’s a big “sidewalk closed” sign. Went around it to check out the bridge construction and there’s nothing closed. Still able to cross on the old bridge. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  12. Damn foreign trees coming in and taking jobs from God fearing local trees. Sure they killed off all the native grasses first, but this is ‘merica dammit! Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  13. I’m with stupid! Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  14. Done this too. Peddlers, then ride BCRT over the dam and from the dam east it’s a nice crush granite path with several parks. If it’s wet we’ve ridden the pave’ path in G’town from San Gabriel Park towards the dam. There’s several parks along it and it crosses the river on several lower water crossings that are good stopping points. You can also cross over in San Gabriel park and go over to the blue hole park for a nice swim. It was my go to for Trailer / trail-a-bike sanity rides. It was fun to see mine actually be able to ride the whole thing on her own before becoming a jaded teen. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  15. Chardog posted an interesting article on mojo a while back. They just regrow if you cut them. Girdling starves them and they actually die. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  16. From the sidewalk to the first up the ditch is dry. Brent may have dropped down to the ditch at the trail further back. I was surprised the rim wasn’t slick today. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  17. Valmont Bike Park in Boulder is the best bike park I’ve ever been to with a Jump line, dual slalom, flow trail, pump track, separate bmx track, all with progressive lines. There’s even a cyclocross course. It’s a great example of what you can do with less elevation change than the flow trail at Walnut. It’s skills stuff for every dirt discipline. Then again the city actually threw a lot of manpower and dirt moving equipment at that park. The other huge thing there is great dirt. No sketchy limestone scree in landings and blown out berms. I was riding the dual slalom course when the sprinklers kicked on. They had it setup to water all the berms, rollers and tabletops. Damn nice job of keeping everything packed up and smooth rolling so it takes less upkeep. There was a maintenance crew packing the bmx line with a golf cart and reshaping the lips. Crazy. The kinda money they spent only happens for football, baseball and soccer fields here unfortunately. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  18. You go 27.5+ like Rocio's or those 2.5 x 29 Rekon's?
  19. Nland was fun. The buyer owns a similar one in CA, so hope they get it up & running soon. They kept having equipment issues and shutting down during prime water activity weather. 😞 It's a really nice facility. The long term fees were kinda steep to me, but they did these constant promo deals that were 2 for 1 priced paired with other activities like Yoga, pilates, gladiator, etc. that made it reasonable if you watched the FB feed or website. I may give Spider mtn a try, but I'm hoping they start running some promo things cause 50 bucks plus gas, food, etc. is vacation rates not every weekend to me.
  20. On a family trip I rode Slickrock in the morn, then hiked around Arches NP after lunch. Another day was Phil's World in Cortez followed by Mesa Verde NP. In April you can't count on the Whole Enchilada being open so have some contingencies. Agree with Anita on Fruita or a little longer drive to Cortez/Durango. Tons of riding in both if there's still a lot of snow up high.

  22. Up north til the 183 construction dies, my preferred parking spot is at the Austin Tennis Center on Johnny Morris. Bathroom and water fountain at the tennis center and nice fairly secure parking at the trailhead lot adjacent to the tennis center. Also makes it more of a challenge climbing the biggest hill out there right before you get back to the parking lot. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  23. Also, the building 4 bikes out of 1 front triangle is a cool concept, EXCEPT I’ve never owned an Al bike I haven’t eventually broken an Al bit on the rear triangle. Like a dozen plus swingarms. Even my carbon Tallboy eventually broke the metal insert on the seat stay/shock mount. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  24. 23 posts over 2 days and no “HUGE NEW RELEASE” comments. [emoji12] I watched the other PB vid too. Interesting he said this resin can take high enough temps for powder coating! Cheaper carbon, made in the US, and more durable paint jobs. Hope they don’t get gobbled up by Trek/Cannodale/etc. for their IP. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  25. Thanks! Yeah a 2 lane bike/ped bridge will be interesting! I haven’t read anything about changes to Shady Lane. Would be nice if they painted some bike lanes and at least add some bike route signage to show users how to connect TLHBT to NWC trail. Probably need an update to the COA bike map. Been too many years since I’ve kept track of who is on the COA bike advisory board. Now that I don’t bike to downtown for work I kinda stopped keeping up the last 5-6 years.
