  3. Dang this build is getting pricey. I had forgotten how all the little things add up. Thankfully lots of free parts and a handful of stuff from my parts bin. Pics next week when it all arrives. GT Scamp 24" disc frame Fox Float R 80mm XT 10spd (11-40) SR Suntour Zeron 152mm 30t Hope Tech EVO brakes 160/140 Carbon post/bars, generic stem, grips SDG Jr Saddle Wheels: Velocity Dyad rims, Sapim Race spokes, Novatec hubs (6 pawl), Probably Maxxis Minion DHF/DHR 2.4/2.3 KMC gold chain King headset (parts bin) Kid sure as hell better like it. Had to start ordering parts from my side account so the wife wouldn't get on me about the cost. Better sell some plasma.

  4. My turn yesterday, found a phone in the middle of the trail and actually found the owner a short time later in the park parking lot and was able to return the phone to it's owner. Sent from my moto g(7) supra using Tapatalk

  7. I don't have any 1st hand knowledge but I've understood the original BSS was housed in the little space below the Juice Joint type place on Barton Springs near the Valero (sorta across from Shady Grove'ish area). I'm even less aware of specifics of who started it, but I thought that the original owners consisted of another couple (and I thought Hill too). -CJB

  8. FTFY You need the hand for your phone and the other for holding the wheel. DUH!

  9. This was definitely a smart move on their part! With the popularity of MTB and the amount of people in the circle C area out riding, it looks like a no brainer. And also no offense to any giant owners here, but they haven't been putting out anything really exciting in a while. Hopefully that changes a bit with adding Remi Thirion to the DH team.

  10. I was just in there this morning. They were excited to say they got their first one in. They are now officially a Santa Cruz dealer! Better hurry if you're in the market for one.

  11. what does a raised left hand mean? seriously, almost no one knows what that means and expecting motorists to recognize it and not clobber you with their car is foolish. it's a useful signal in a bygone era for riding a motor bike or a old timey car that does not have a signal. if you want to indicate a turn while riding a bicycle, point in the direction of your intended turn with the hand on that side of your bike. point with your left hand to indicate a left turn and use your right hand for a right turn. that makes sense because it's intuitive to drivers and cyclists.

  13. If you love America, you'll ride Singlespeed. You'll need some asian parts (spokes, chains, etc), but you can build a pretty legit SS with US and UK (Hope) bits.

  14. They are giving away $5k to a local cycling group, and choosing by vote of people who stop by one of their stores from Feb 6-21st. Even if your not a member of ARR I would encourage everyone on this forum to swing by and cast a vote for ARR as they do a ton to keep our local trails open! (Probably preaching to the choir here😁)

  15. Agreed! Our whole family read that at the beginning of the Pandemic.

  16. Super minimal %. I know what it means but it takes me a moment to actually recognize it. In fact, just this weekend I noticed a few Harley riders using it for a right turn into a park. Like I said, took me a moment to catch it. All that said, as a bicycle rider, I simply use the unofficial "right hand out for right turn" hand sign. As a bicycle rider (in traffic) its much more intuitive for all. Later, CJB

  18. Most social media is just social poisoning. The anonymity brings out the worst in people. We would never be aggressive the way that people are today when we were younger. If you were talking shit about someone when we were younger you could count on them showing up at your doorstep or work or even better catch you out with your friends and make an example of you. We can't do that anymore but I feel sometimes it needs to happen.

  20. The original BSS building is still there at 1426 Toomey Road. Google street view shows it as gray now, with some broad green horizontal accents. I just can't remember if they ever had a very early presence on Jessie. In my experience, Hill is a fantastic guy. What most people don't get is that he started BSS before the cut-rate internet sales era, and just stayed steady, survived and thrived with great bikes and excellent customer service and many employees who have stayed on for years. Hill has been a wonderful advocate for mountain biking, served as president of IMBA and (IIRC) moved to DC for a year in that role. He's still a relatively young guy, so there will most likely be a 2nd act for him. I wish he and his family the best. So...who will have the Specialized franchise in Austin now? How this will affect Mellow Johnnie's Bike Shop, since they are TREK as well? That said, MJ's does have the coffee shop. At least pre-COVID it was always busy.

  21. The Tarahumara run ultras (and do very well) with homemade sandals using tires as the bottom part. I highly recommend everyone read Born to Run. It's a great read even if you don't run at all.

  22. I went out there and checked it out..their was a decent group at finish area. My buddy ran it so cheered him on at finish line...falling seemed to be a recouring topic people where talking about it. My freind fell twice and had a pretty nice goose egg and cut on his forearm. This one crazy lunatic ran it with sandals tied on with rope and duct tape haha...I told him he needs to send that in to oofos, the sandals holding up is almost as crazy as him running in them haha An event shirt with the sweet logo they had would of been cool but they got to choose from a running hat or gloves instead, and got a beer at end so that was nice.
