  1. Log Loops, Tangle, Chardog/Powerline Flow/Endo were all fine. I would avoid: Point 6 - Some mud still in the middle of the trail. People widening trail to go around it. Walked a bit of it due to this. Windy/BMX - did not see first hand but heard others say they're very messy. Marks Art - Looked messy so I skipped it. Fence Line after Tangle was squishy but didn't collect on my tires. Main Creek Crossing was a mess. I used the bridge.
  2. Damn, I hadn't heard about Ken. That sucks.
  3. They were still doing Tyler SP up until about 4-5 years ago, then the park changed hands and the new owner did not want the group up in Tyler doing any trailwork and there were some other issues. Dunno what happened in the end, but I rode there 2 years ago and it was still in decent condition.
  4. Rekon 2.8s for me. Good mix of weight, durability, and grip.
  5. Great as of Sunday afternoon - one muddy spot (about a foot) outside of ditches and a few mushy spots but very well packed in and weather was really nice.
  6. Anyone happen to know the conditions out there? Trying to decide between this and Muleshoe tomorrow.
  7. Think Muleshoe will be good by Sunday afternoon? Looks like they got about 0.5.
  8. I grabbed his route and uploaded it to ride with GPS. Can you see this? https://ridewithgps.com/routes/29167075
  9. How is 1/4 and DD? I know that Peddler's is still likely too wet.

    2018 EB

EB, Kayak edition? Might be difficult on the road though!
  11. Short chainstays are indeed fun - I really like my Canfield Riot w/ 14.2ish chainstays (it's a 29er and alu tho). Pretty sure Bike World had a closeout Thunderbolt when i was in there, but I don't remember what size it was. Was pretty nicely discounted though. The SC 5010 is a great bike too and SC's customer service is top notch.
  12. Was looking for camping this weekend...rain pretty much everywhere. Guess it'll be another road bike or trainer weekend. I may or may not have contributed to this with a purchase.
  13. Not much at SA then. Possibly the Dino trails up north. I know there were some easier south trails but can't think of which exactly are the super easy ones.
  14. Looking at my rides out there, I'd say Tasajilla Flats trail (there might be a little walking here. There was one steeper descent that she'll definitely want to walk if beginner. Tasajilla Flats -> Nature Trail -> paved to Chaparral Trail back to red Arroyo Another option would be an out and back on chaparral - > Winding snake and back. It's been over a year since i've been there, and i've only been there 3-4 times, so trying to go off memory. If you can scout it out first it might be a better idea. If you're on the north side, the Dinosaur Trail was pretty easy. There might be one or two walking spots on Rocky Creek to Shady connecting back to the parking lot. If I recall correctly (and I only rode this once like 3 years ago), there's one steeper climb and a few small ledges. I recall I was racing this during a 6 hour race and I quit after two laps because honestly it was super boring. Dino is mostly in a huge field.
  15. There's some easier stuff out there, but there might be a few sections she'd walk. What kind of stuff at Walnut is she comfortable riding? Note: The entire park will be closed on the following dates:. *From 2 p.m. on Jan. 4 until 8 a.m. Jan. 7, 2019.)
  16. Yeah, have used them before with success. Now I'm gonna have more competition it looks like, bah.
  17. I didn't have that feeling at all. There was great flow on the downhill sections and the climbs were very mellow. I'm not a great climber and I never maxed out on any of the climbs, setting a fairly decent pace. No technical challenge I'll agree with it, but I don't mind that since I ride tech here all the time.
  18. Yep, I can see the overcrowding - mostly at popular parks closer to cities. It's especially hard to get non-primitive camping reservations. MTB trails generally aren't too crowded because people are going for other things. Like Pedernales - the park can be packed for the river but you'll only see 5-10 people on the trails. Also agree w/ FirstBlood.
  19. I saw this 'group ride' or maybe tour on the Walnut Creek singletrack yesterday. They were riding these little motorized skateboard-type things with one big wheel in the middle. These - https://onewheel.com/ Fairly sure they're considered motorized and not allowed on the trail, but not sure. They move pretty slow and moved out of the way when I rode by so I didn't say anything.
  20. Hit the Anderson Lane one at lunch. Lots of helmets and such left. No good lights left. Very little in the way of tires and components. Ended up getting a new helmet, nice compact torque wrench, and some other misc. stuff.
  21. If I'm selling something for less than 20 bucks, I'd rather give it away than have to deal with people on Craigslist.
  22. Yeah, it can be a pain to get used to and to tow, especially in a city. We tow a 35ft fifth wheel, and it's annoying going through cities like Dallas/Austin. You have to carefully choose places to eat, etc. Still worth it for the camping, but I can see some people saying it's not worth it.
  23. Did you have any sort of sway control? If not, that makes a big difference with feeling better towing. There are some pretty cheap options that are easy to set up. Something like this: https://www.harborfreight.com/trailer-sway-control-kit-96462.html Better quality ones will probably make a bigger difference, but probably not needed for something small.
  24. Report I got yesterday is that it was still pretty squishy. I'd imagine the shaded spots might be a bit on the slick side, but I haven't been out there to check for myself.
  25. I used to be quite a bit faster, especially at Walnut where there were generally less people out at night. Unfortunately eyesight has gotten worse at night over the past few years, so I'm scrubbing speed in places I normally wouldn't just because something looks off.
