  1. Really neat bike build, I don't know why, just clean bike and clean video:
  2. No Experience in Bike Shops but I know in Automotive, Motorcycle and Commercial Truck Profits from Service is always a big part of their overall income. During "down times" it usually becomes a much bigger part of the pie. For example, during the 2008 downturn the average age of a Commercial Truck (think 18 wheeler/long haul truck) went from 3-5 years to 6-8 years. This means alot more maintenance on truck that probably already had 300,000 miles on it by year 3 or 4. However, it's lower capital investment by the fleets. I think the volume of cobweb filled, dept.store 26rs coming out of the woodworks speak for themselves.
  3. Great Video, I had never heard of that technique. I'll need to pay attention to whether I push forward like that or not. Also, I have that exact same T-Shirt from a DB giveaway a few years back.
  4. Rode almost 6 miles today with my 6yo. Started at Fern Bluff El. Rode down the stone canyon rough descent, then along the BCRT to Ankle biter. Walked the beginning with her and rode the rest. Then back to the BCRT at Champion and up the dam (walked a bit) and then played in the creek next to Mulligan. Had my wife pick us up from the skate park (as planned).
  5. As I pointed out earlier with the Dirt Bike example... The front tire needs to be weighted or you no turn so good. This is a difficult finesse on a MTB where your inputs from you body to the bike are much more limited compared to on a motorcycle. Maybe you don't even notice that you are doing that, especially have such good upper body strength. That being said, yes, you can't change the laws of physics and since F = μN the more weight (N) you apply the more traction you get (F) for any given surface available traction (μ). Berms work because they increase N by putting it in a direction that compliments the angle of the bike during a turn. The is the same reason that off camber trails feel sketch, you are loosing traction because your bike is at an angle to the trail bed. BTW, @spicewookie This would have come from the mouth of Fish Lover if you hadn't taken the screen name during the transition....
  6. I have a 6" FS bike (out dated 2007 All Mountain) and a 4" HT (also, not the newest geom) and If I had the means I'd trade both in a heartbeat for a 120/130ish HT or maybe a FS. I am not a huge drop/ jump fan and I spend more time with the rear end in ProPedal mode and front Talus at 130 than I do at full open. The HT is fun and I can definitely feel myself have energy for more miles compared to the FS but it does beat me up just a bit on the rocky/loose bits common in our area. Trouble is, both are in great mechanical shape and still make me smile on the trail. I have a hardtime replacing things that work.
  7. Yeah, went to college in Bellingham, WA, 20 minutes from the Canadian Border. when 50+ Spring qtr hit everyone was sunbathing in the lawns in swim suits.
  8. Rode dirt bikes from 12 to 25 and I still want to do this on my MTB in turns: Hump the gas cap and swing the inside leg out. The Endura Race Cornering clinic was SO good in retraining my brain for MTB.
  9. This guy just got mentioned last week: https://www.812mtbsuspension.com/
  10. Just got back from SN, definitely started thick and humid but improved. Trails were dry but not dusty.
  11. I've got both, the 3D Printed one (which isn't my design) is the one I reach for the most, it works really well.
  12. This particular design costs pennies to make, I'd rather enroll beta testers for feedback. Do you have the same situation? I would just need your seat tube OD (Outside Dimension) in mm. Thanks for the feedback everyone, just got back from a great ride on SN and the guides held up great.
  13. I designed and printed a few cable guides for my dropper. Routing is pretty limited on this bike so the guides are needed to keep it out of the suspension, rear tire and pedals. Testing two styles, hopefully tonight if the weather holds up.
  14. No rain east of Brushy since the sprinkles mentioned earlier. Anything Westside?
  15. Rim is a 26" tire has no wear but has dry rot.
  16. Any interest? Picked it up off the curb and stripped what I needed. Its a high kwality mongoose if you can't tell. Located east of Brushy.
  17. Didn't you know? Eagles eat snakes!
  18. Are you the guy offering MTB lessons on Facebook?
  19. No, mine (all 100mm of it still works) it just froze once.
  20. Just poking around, I'm trying to upgrade my 27.5 HT. A year ago I put my 26" Talus with a borrowed 27.5 wheel. I really liked the jump from 100mm to 130/150mm. I'm looking for a fork or fork wheel combo. Fork has got to be a 1-1/8" straight steerer which really limits it I know. If its a QR wheel then I can reuse my current wheel, otherwise I'll need a wheel to. Got anything cheap/free?
  21. I've had a KS eTen for 5-6 years? Only thing I've done to it besides wipe down the stanchion was smack it with a mallet when I didn't ride for 6 months and it got stuck up. That was 3 years ago, it has definitely developed some seat rotation play but I never notice it riding, only when moving my bike by hand. My next dropper will probably be a BrandX or PNW (same thing?) I like the non-moving external routing.
